I hope the Khet are like the Protheans.

Sounds like ME2

I personally hope they do sth different with the ancient aliens thing. What I liked about the Protheans at first was how so little was known about them. Then came the Collectors and they just looked like horrible insects. Then comes Javik who looks like a weird cuttlefish armadillo crabface. Yeah, nothing like the majestic beings we imagined from ME1.

We all had idealistic notions of the Protheans like Liara did but I don't think Javik is a very representative sample of what Prothean society was like in their hayday long before the empire, the Machine Wars and the Reapers which all changed their society pretty drastic ways i'd imagine. In terms of aesthetic design working backwards from the Collectors was evidently a very bad idea.

Protheans found the Innusanan tech way too early which lead them to advance far too quickly relative to other cycles - Their 50k cycle went on far too long relatively speaking. By the time of the machine wars they needed every fighting man of every species under their banner to fight the machines - empire and imperialism were in part born out of necessity.

In this game we are going to find out if organic life can survive outside of the cycles. If the catalyst is right about reaper cycles and the nature of life then you would expect to find nothing but hyper-advanced synthetic lifeforms and pre-spaceflight organic species which haven't yet been discovered. If there are any organic species in between other than us i'd be very surprised.

I think it's worth revisiting the NeoGAF leak:

http://www.eurogamer...-effect-4-leak

The Khet are hostile, seem to have an empire, and definitely want to expand their territory. Whether they are like the Protheans or not is irrelevant to me. What I do know is that humanity will battle at least two enemies. The Khet and Pirates.

Want to make allies? Then, destroy Khet Outposts in their territories. Also, fight them in Remnant Vault Raids and in Elite Remnant Vault Raids (mechanics aside). Want to go deeper into the cluster? Then you need to punch through the Khet Outposts.

Bottom line, Ryder must fight and defeat them to get anywhere. Now, would the game ending require Ryder to defeat their home world or to destroy it? My pick is to annihilate them, especially if they are like the Protheans..

Didn't the protheans had to blow up that planet after they learned that the zha'til were corrupted by the reapers? Doesn't sound no more brutal than Shepard sending an asteroid into a mass relay to stop the reapers.

To me the protheans appeared to be modelled much like the leviathans, who viewed themselves as the apex species of their time, with the lesser species in their thrall. Anything like that goes a bridge too far for me. We've already seen that before. I don't need anything like that to be repeated.

I'd say it's different. But you're right the Protheans weren't the only one capable of atrocities, we've read about Krogans droping asteroids on Turian colonies and they might well have developed a weapon capable of destroying an entire planet.

But we've not really seen that before. We heard about it and we talked about it, but the Reapers were the closest thing I'm talking about here, the difference was that they were no ordinary race. I thinking more abouting executing an idea differently, rather than a 100% whole new kind of enemy.

Anyway, what you would like the Khet to be? We known we are going to be fighting them, so why would that be?

My bad. I got the Khet confused with the Remnants....which is what I think a rehash of the Protheans are. Or a rehash of everything Bioware. More ancient artifacts. They seem to use paint-by-numbers when they write their main stories.

The Khet might be like the Turians... if we had a continuing conflict with them in the Milky Way.

Good questions. From the leaks we know that there are two fronts there. The khet empire and the pirates. I hope that the latter are more than mercs and that BW dreams up a better name for them. I also hope there will be more to it than just fighting the bad guys. To me, as a role player, shooting isn't enough. It seems odd now that we have to liberate the Helius Cluster, because we are the new kids on the block. There must be an appealing reason to fight the khet, otherwise we better look for a cozy home planet in the cluster next to it. Some mystery and intrigue would be welcome. So the story around the liberation has to be really good to make it work.

I did too at first. ;D

But I'd still rather they not resemble any old race too closely. Maybe war itself never changes, but I don't want to feel like I'm fighting with the "would be" protheans.

English is not my native language, so maybe my observation doesn't make sense:

In the leak they talk about "the Remnant" (without an 's'), even in plural, as if it was a name that doesn't require one. Not sure what's up with that. Probably not a typo, because it appears at several locations that way.

hahaaaa

but she's a mutant so that doesn't count.

I was thinking sth like this guy

...

The small brown alien is using his orgasm as a last defense against the white dude with the nasty tongue, killing him and giving himself the best pleasure. Maybe too gruesome for Mass Effect.

Holy crap. That's kinda disturbing.   ;)

If the supposed "new aliens" ever look like anything we've seen in the prequels, we are going to need all the facepalms available for the failure this game going to get.

And by that I mean a imperialistic brutal superpower with which any meaningful diplomacy is not option simply because they consider everyone else beneath them.

I'm currently replaying Mass Effect 3 and during the Rachini missions, Javik casually states the Protheans burned 200 planets when the Rachini began to get out of hand (they used to deploy them as bio weapons). It would be cool if our adversary in the game could be capable of these things. I suppose the Reapers were that, but you don't need them to have that kind of warfare.

What are your expectations for the Khet?

that may be the case.
