BioWare, how many team members can we bring with us on mission? I would be happy with a four-member team; I and three others.

I'm guessing we're sticking with the old three-member squad, like in the old games--it just doesn't seem like something they'd change. It's a shame, 'cause I'd be up for a larger squad... If only for the banter opportunities.

All that said... Honestly, I mainly just dropped into this thread to show my appreciation for the use of the phrase, 'away party'.

Same as before, 2 squad members. If you examine the HUD from the leaked gameplay footage, you can notice the abilities of our squad members sorted out under the shield and health bars. To the right of it are our abilities.

I think it should be about 12 people, in case badguys need to invade the ship.

Riker: Allow me to introduce my current party. Tasha is a temporary companion who'll die early in the game, Troi is a romance option who is as psychic as the plot needs her to be, Worf keeps trying to tank when he has high strength but low endurance, Wesley is part of an annoying escort mission... and I'm currently debating whether or not to grow a beard for the charisma bonus?

(Is it weird that TNG oddly works as an RPG?)

Have BioWare ever pulled a 'Yesterday's Enterprise' with a Jenkins-type character? 'Cause they totally should.

If I was elected Queen of Everything, I'd say "Variable", because I LOVE those moments in ME2/ME3 DLC where the whole squad has something to do. I expect to mostly have 2 buddies, though. I just really want there to be an excuse for why it's a bad idea to snag the whole team on every mission.

The 3 man squad works well for ME. I found it was enough people to create tactical advantages like suppressive fire or cross fire and small enough that you can keybind most of their skills as well as your own without things getting out of hand.

Yesterday's Enterprise is one of my favourite episodes... although it's ending is somewhat undermined by later episodes.

Spoiler

But yeah, it does make you wonder what would have happened if Jenkins hadn't been killed on Eden Prime? Or if in Dragon Age we had characters like Daveth or Mhairi survive the Joining, or Jowan hadn't been cut as a companion who'd teach the blood mage spec?

Closest we've gotten to a Yesterday's Enterprise "What If?" is the Darkspawn Chronicles where the Warden either was never recruited or died during the Joining, or "In Hushed Whispers" that shows us what might have happened if the Inquisitor hadn't been around to stop Corypheus?

I wouldn't say no to having a larger party, because I do sometimes feel like the 3 man party does lock us into using certain combinations when playing as a particular class. Having an extra squad mate would allow us more freedom in that regard?

I wish there was some special missions where you can only take one companion with you for story reasons. Two companions + you will probably be the default again.

Personally I would have liked it if we had more, maybe the player plus three party members like Dragon Age.

Or they could go all out and let us take everyone, organized into fireteams like the original Ghost Recon or Brothers in Arms titles. To use ME1's cast as an example, I'd put Ashley, Wrex, and Tali into fireteam one as the close assault team, while Garrus, Kaidan, and Liara would be fireteam two for long range sniping and tech/biotic bombardment.

The consoles already have problems with button mapping for 3 people, so having 4 would turn it into a nightmare.

I guess they will stay with 3, and I'm very happy about that.

Me too, seeing everyone there at the SM or in the Citadel DLC was very cool.

It works well in DA though, would it be harder as ME is a shooter?

I for one would love 3 party members, like DA, purely for the banter. :D

Same as the previous ME games, it'll be 1 plus 2 suicidal decoys.

Well in DA you don't really control all companions at once, you can set their skill set and they act accordingly (if lucky :D), but for me, the best thing in ME is that I have control over my complete squad and that they use the power I mapped whenever I want it :) I feel like an actual commander  Joking...

This wouldn't be so much an issue if pausing with the Power Wheel every time to select a power would be mandatory, but many like to play without pause. PC users would likely be able to manage a 4 member squad, but consoles only allow mapping one power for each squad mate, and 3 for Shepard because of the Controller button limitations. So imagine how it would be if there was one more squad mate

Hudson was always pretty adamant about not controlling other members. I forgot why.. but I guess it's philosophical. It wasn't intended to be the same RPG as the others.

But I'd like more instances of large parties.

Oh okay, I understand.  Never had a console so I'm clueless to all this stuff.

It needs to be 3. A fireteam is always 4 guys.
