I thought it'd have been cool to have some participation in the older games too. Like the N7 missions.. just some specialist to trigger things. Like Tali at a console or something. Or in ME3, see Jack and her kids help out in some way. Not necessarily active teammates, but part of the mission.

Exactly, I'd love to have a similar situation that we had with Joker where he'd give us information during the mission. Maybe we could assign individuals to specific roles e.g Engineering CAPCOM, Navigation, etc or it could be done more linear with certain companions assigned to certain roles regardless of PC input. Unless of course that companion ends up dead.

For example we'd hear Garrus or Ashley saying "Sheppard you have Geth inbound" as opposed to Joker doing that, alternatively it could be skill and experience based, the more appropriate the role their assigned to the more information you get.

I'm thinking that's an even taller order. They don't even understand using skills like that anymore. Look at DAI. Everything your character does has power and persuasiveness behind it, just for your mere existence and choosing the option.

I'm fairly positive they'll stick with with a three-member squad, too, but to indulge my pedantic side: Dragon Age has always had a party of four - including you - rather than three.

(And Baldur's Gate had a party of up to six members--though, like I said, I reckon Andromeda'll almost certainly stick with three.)

Did DA:O have 4? (Goes to do Google search) Uh, yeah it did.....guess it has been so long since I played and after 2 and Inquisition I just assumed it was 3 also. KOTOR was the first Bioware game I ever played, Baldur's Gate was before my time.

KotOR was actually my first, too--I ended up going back and giving Baldur's Gate a go some years later, both for the sake of completeness and 'cause I was between BioWare releases at the time. KotOR's still near and dear to my heart, though; it's the game that made me realise how much I love singleplayer, story-driven RPGs, which are still by far my favourite genre.

On the companions thing...

Kotor was my first as well. Tbh, I played because it was Star Wars first. RPG second. I avoided most RPGs at the time.

I was at an age where I basically played whatever I could get my hands on--I hadn't really developed a preference in gaming genres yet. KotOR actually played a pretty significant role in informing those preferences; it's big part of why I like RPGs as much as I do today.

(All that said... I actually like KotOR II more.)

In fairness, I did actually have to check before making my first comment. I guess it's just not something people think about all that much when they're actually playing.

Yeah. I too started with KOTOR. 13 years old and still a spectacular game.

If we can switch between characters and control them, 3 squadmates would be ideal.  We need to be able to switch because it allows you an easier time to dictate where they should go and what they should do.

Yea................We're not going to be able to take direct control of squad mates. It's still Mass Effect.

Or they could go all out and let us take everyone, organized into fireteams like... Brothers in Arms.

I miss Brothers in Arms. The first two games were amazing.

I'm hoping we'll get the option to bring none like in DA to make the game harder.

If the environment is picturesque and relaxing, and nice ambient music is playing. Then I would explore alone... Or maybe with a romance option... But maybe alone.

I always thought they should have kept that from teh early version of ME1.

Glad you folks remember what a fireteam is, and what it's size is (In the majority of NATO), but there seems to be a good reason why a squad is formed of two (sometimes three, but who cares about the US Marine Corps? :P ) fireteams. Often you require extra manpower, such as taking a large building, or advancing againist enemy positions. While buddy team bounding overwatch may work, you are limiting yourself in when exactly your SAW can bear on the assaulted position. With two teams, you have two SAWs, and we all know that two guns are more fun than one.

(Plus if I remember this right, the two fireteams in the squad may differ slightly by the addition of an RTO, LAT, or a different role.)

Yeah... Good stuff. They actually referenced where the story would move next. Then came Furious Four, which made all the fans... furious. Last mention of that particular thing I found is from 2012, and claims that it would not be a part of the BiA franchise after all. Unfortunately...

Baker will probably never get to find out the difference between Hell of Market-Garden and Snow that Leggett's ghost told him about...

A 2 person squad is perfect. No need to change that up.

Same as before, 2 squad members. If you examine the HUD from the leaked gameplay footage, you can notice the abilities of our squad members sorted out under the shield and health bars. To the right of it are our abilities.
