I thought it'd have been cool to have some participation in the older games too. Like the N7 missions.. just some specialist to trigger things. Like Tali at a console or something. Or in ME3, see Jack and her kids help out in some way. Not necessarily active teammates, but part of the mission.

Exactly, I'd love to have a similar situation that we had with Joker where he'd give us information during the mission. Maybe we could assign individuals to specific roles e.g Engineering CAPCOM, Navigation, etc or it could be done more linear with certain companions assigned to certain roles regardless of PC input. Unless of course that companion ends up dead.

For example we'd hear Garrus or Ashley saying "Sheppard you have Geth inbound" as opposed to Joker doing that, alternatively it could be skill and experience based, the more appropriate the role their assigned to the more information you get.

I'm thinking that's an even taller order. They don't even understand using skills like that anymore. Look at DAI. Everything your character does has power and persuasiveness behind it, just for your mere existence and choosing the option.

I'm fairly positive they'll stick with with a three-member squad, too, but to indulge my pedantic side: Dragon Age has always had a party of four - including you - rather than three.

(And Baldur's Gate had a party of up to six members--though, like I said, I reckon Andromeda'll almost certainly stick with three.)

Did DA:O have 4? (Goes to do Google search) Uh, yeah it did.....guess it has been so long since I played and after 2 and Inquisition I just assumed it was 3 also. KOTOR was the first Bioware game I ever played, Baldur's Gate was before my time.

KotOR was actually my first, too--I ended up going back and giving Baldur's Gate a go some years later, both for the sake of completeness and 'cause I was between BioWare releases at the time. KotOR's still near and dear to my heart, though; it's the game that made me realise how much I love singleplayer, story-driven RPGs, which are still by far my favourite genre.

On the companions thing...

I think you may be misremembering 2 and Inquisition.  :P

Kotor was my first as well. Tbh, I played because it was Star Wars first. RPG second. I avoided most RPGs at the time.

I was at an age where I basically played whatever I could get my hands on--I hadn't really developed a preference in gaming genres yet. KotOR actually played a pretty significant role in informing those preferences; it's big part of why I like RPGs as much as I do today.

(All that said... I actually like KotOR II more.)

In fairness, I did actually have to check before making my first comment. I guess it's just not something people think about all that much when they're actually playing.

Yeah. I too started with KOTOR. 13 years old and still a spectacular game.

If we can switch between characters and control them, 3 squadmates would be ideal.  We need to be able to switch because it allows you an easier time to dictate where they should go and what they should do.

Yea................We're not going to be able to take direct control of squad mates. It's still Mass Effect.
