I typically don't care what an alien male LI looks like. I'd prefer they look non-human because I want an alien experience. Just make them competent, strong, dignified, and decent. Now if it is my own species, there certainly is specifics in anatomy, age, and face attractiveness I desire.

That's why Garrus, krogans, and lizardy Thane are desired, but I would never say the are handsomer than Kaidan, Vega or Zaeed.

Females and males find different traits attractive in their counterparts, why is this surprising?

You don't see it as a little unreasonable that people - and by that I mean some dudes on the internet - are automatically assuming the one female character we've seen that isn't the player is a "potential LI"?

Not really. It is very likely (even if not absolutely certain) considering BW previous trailers that she is a squadmate and a LI.

What previous trailers? That GCI thing? And you don't think it's slightly suspicious it's a hetero dude thing rather than, say, a lesbian thing?

I think it's pretty unlikely. But Bioware could also change the look. They did it for Ashley when they got a face model, or something. Then again I never thought she was attractive but YMMV.

It was common for noble lines to purposefully add desirable traits to the family by way of exact breeding, besides looks are part of the social game.

Still, no one would marry a commoner cause they looked good, those things happened outside of officially sanctioned marriages. Also, tastes were... different. Just look at the (probably flattering) paintings of Jane Seymour.  :P

lol, I don't think conspiracy theory means what you think it means. Jeebus, you guys try to escalate conversation you don't like into something else, don't you? I say, "Hey, guys, diversity in how women are represented isn't so bad." And you guys run around screaming social engineering and conspiracy theories. It's sort of funny.

No one said that characters are being kicked out. The point is being made that some gamers go a bit apeshit when a less than attractive woman character is included in 'their' game. It won't hurt you guys to have to look at someone that doesn't give you a boner. No one has said, either, that no attractive women can be included. Just add some diversity. You guys really are fragile.

And, yep, Sarkeesian is wonderful. Love her.

So you love a hypocritical charlatan.

That's another check.

Garrus is unattractive to humans in general and the most popular LI more than the attractive human and slightly more attractive alien Thane.

So your statement- "would you like potential LI for female players to look unattractive? I doubt it"

I can't speak for the other poster, but I don't care if the alien is attractive. I'd rather they be alien physically, not humans with different skin color/bike helmet heads, or weird hands/feet/shins/glowing eyes. I leave the attractiveness to human LIs, and that is definitely where we can agree on the attractive requirement.

But most female fans make no such demand on male alien LIs. Again turians being top desired with words ascribed to them as honorable, warriors, regal, dignified, gentlemen.

No one thinks they are physically attractive, except furries, there I said it, peeps comparing turian willy to ducks and such

They are, but at their most basic, they are "sexy blue space babies". No matter how much they develop the Asari, that's what will be their main aspect. That's why I believe the reaction a single Asari shown is so negative, derogatory and shallow.

                                                                                                <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

Surely the reaction is unsurprising? For three games we had blue "space babes".

The gamer expects the same in ME:A.

I've noted that male gamers tend to whine a lot when women don't meet some threshold of hotness in games. See the Asari, Sera and Cassandra as examples. You took that observation and made it about love interests. We don't know if the Asari is a love interest.

Just, once again, asking for diversity and that not all women fit some fuckable mold. That's all.

Male gamers whine a lot? Fragile?

Ironic, when your idol does nothing but whine about these particular topics.

And entire herds of Tumblrinas only occupation in life is whining about "micro aggressions".

Anyway, Cassandra and Sera are both LI. This new Asari is likely a Squadmate and if so - probably a LI.

How is this about females in general again?

"Fuckable". And here you repeat your BS again and move the goalpost from discussion about LI to women in general.

By the way, I love the way you used this word. Love the way your type becomes so toxic every time you mention sex.

I think he meant previous BioWare trailers from other games, like ME2's CGI trailers. I wouldn't be incredibly confident in any of my assumptions yet, but given how important squadmates (and by extension LIs) are to BioWare games and how prevalent they usually are in BioWare's marketing, I'd be willing to put money on that character being an LI.

I don't know man, if you asked me I'd say an attractive guy is a toned, handsome-faced guy in his early thirties. Wouldn't stop me from romancing Zaeed if he was available tho. Attraction is pretty complex.

Maria Caliban's post is timeless:

You also have the right to belch out the A.. B... C.. song. I'm probably going to comment on that as well, and it won't be complimentary.

No, that's part of my problem. Men aren't pigs. I'm a pig. If you show me a woman in a video game, I'm going to ask if I can sleep with her. If the answer is 'yes,' I'm going to do so.

She doesn't have to be attractive. She doesn't have to be young or have a well-developed personality. She has to be female and willing to spread her legs for the PC.

This is because I like women. I like muscular, Amazon women who can bench-press cows. I like ****ty pirate women who cheat at cards. I like crazy Orlesan bards who tell me how they enjoy seducing someone before killing them and that the Maker worships them. I like antisocial swamp witches with serious emotional issues. I like ice queen, genetically perfect control freaks. I like shy, tech loving walking encyclopedias, both the blue and the masked varieties. I like self-centered princess ninjas. Humorless, holier-than-thou Jedis. Sadistic, vicious priestesses who tell me how they brutally get revenge on others.

And that' s just BioWare games. TVs, books, movies, cartoons, comics – to me, real life is like being a fat kid left in a Willy Wonka factory. There are so many desirable women in the world and I desperately want to screw them all.

THAT IS BEING A PIG.

Men don't do this. Men, to me, are like rail thin food critics who head to a restaurant and turn their nose up at every dish.

"The smoked trout in dill and scallion marinade has a slightly acidic aftertaste and therefore tastes like dog ass. I could not possibly eat this." <- This is what Maria hears/reads when a group of men discuss women.

Again, females are attracted to different aspects, especially when the probably uncomfortable spiky spiny reality is locked behind a screen,

leaving the attraction as a mostly vague idea built on personality and voice acting more than anything.

Exactly, for females a pixelated male alien LI need not be physically attractive to be desirable and popular. Give him a great personality and masculine voice...the end.

On that note, have you seen that krogan bulge...

tumblr_o6kduzXr9W1v8kksco2_400.gif

You guys got an androgynous asari and we get ^...speculations of course. :P  :D

Then again, I am guessing the asari is lesbian and the krogan gay.

The blonde, petite, buxom blonde is what you all should be concerned with. She is definitely a LI for men.

What baseless accusations? What conspiracy theories? I've been very clear what I'm talking about. For I dunno, about the billioneth time for the challenged, I'm asking to see more diversity in how women are represented in games. I've noted that some men whine a lot when developers attempt to give more diversity. I really don't know nor do I care why that bugs you so much. But, I have my guesses as to why this annoys you. At any rate, keep raving about conspiracy theories every time you encounter a perspective you don't like.

There's nothing wrong with having ugly women in videogames tbh. The problem is when people take it as though you're attacking women as a group for stating that said ugly women are ugly.

Better graphics engine, can be more detailed in their character models now. I feel that is part of the complaints regarding the Asari in question.
