How'd you feel about FemRyder?

She looks good. Ahhh......this is gonna get worse isn't it? Like they said she isn't exactly the default.

It is not even about unappealing. The Asari simply does not look like a female. Many people are saying "male".  Let me give you an example. This woman in Witcher 3 is not the "supermodel" type, but still looks very much like a female (and looks more like a woman than Cassandra did to). Want to include women like this? Go for it Bioware. I would romance the hell out of Cerys. One man's chicken is another man's steak. Put a male jawline on a female though? Nope. Agendas are being pushed and I want no part of it and retconning Asari to appease a tiny fraction of the population that the vast majority does not agree with is insanity.

I have to agree with this 100%. Even though I really liked Cass; Cerys was on point. She was Smexy as hell!!

Not utterly horrible but not fantastic either.

Cerys was one of a number of fantastic TW3 character depictions.

It's really nice to see women of all shapes, sizes, colors and levels of attractiveness included in entertainment. Reducing women to eye-candy for male entertainment has been the norm for far too long. One note representations of women alienated me from many forms of entertainment; with that alienation, men would claim that women just weren't into 'x' when the real problem that many women don't like the way they are represented in 'x'.

At any rate, I'm optimistic about the path Bioware seems to be on. DAI had a great cast of characters and I love what we've seen of the Asari in MEA. She actually looks interesting, like someone I'd like to know and not just designed for men to want to bang. Thumbs up!

I agree with you. Except for the thrice-damned eyebrows. Eyebrows eyebrows eyebrows.

Women weren't reduced to eye candy before. They were just eye candy... and more. Big difference.

You want to turn space marine games into social experiments though, good luck with that. I'm curious on the results.

If this forum has taught me anything, it is that some people has no clue how a female look like.

But really, they say she don't look like a woman and that other females that is not in the standard package of "videogame girls" is ugly, so why try to argue with fools?  ;)

All this thread does is giving them a place to vent more of their anxiety that a person in a game is not perfect per their definition.

Eh, I hope ME is trying to be a bit more than CoD in space, even if they don't always succeed.

Overall, I'm genuinely not sure how I feel about this topic. In theory I support eye candy love interests with personality as the ideal solution, as long as they're evenly spread between the sexes. But on the other hand, all personality issues aside neither Cullen nor Kaidan did anything for me, so maybe the BW brand of candy just isn't to my liking in general.

It can be more than that already.. by simply doing what they did.

I just don't know why so many things need to be fixed. Not only this issue. If it was so bad, I don't understand why someone played it in the first place.

I don't do  the romance vary often. but we did get  dealt a bad hand on Cassandra they went out of there way to make her ugly she was pretty in DA2.

I haven't yet played DA2 but from the screen caps she looks ok there. She looked fantastic (although a little generic) in the Dawn of the Seeker movie though.

All the shallowness and bitching about the creation of a character you have no control over. It's funny to watch. But despite your complaining and crying, at the end the day you're still gonna play the game. So why bother?

And you're also saying that's all other people should be seeing. That's not how that works. People argue that there are other features that bug them. I showed the picture of the asari to a guy next to me at work, that has nothing to do with ME and said it looks like a weird looking guy.

I don't see the guy thing either, but if an unrelated guy says it, it definitely seems like something is off about it.

Doesn't mean it should be changed, though. Artistic integrity and all.

                                                                                        <<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>

It all boils down to what the artists and writers think a character should look like. Gaider and @Jos have alluded to this. Also, I would be unsurprised, if additional game directions were given by the Big Cheese(s) about character diversity.

Which issue, the women being eye candy? I don't think it needs to be fixed, the amount (and type) of male love interests is something that needs to be fixed in the ME franchise, from my perspective. But that's just me, I'm not trying to be the voice of any collective.

As for why someone played it in the first place, I'd assume it's because there just aren't all that many alternatives.

Don't give me that. You've seen it. The Shrek face, the eyebrows, the jawline. They're just taking it out of proportion.

Oh I agree with you
I just think saying it's about dimples is missing the mark. That's all I've been saying the entire time.

I also said people shouldn't be judging all mea asari by one early model of a character.

Eh for me I'm not going to get worked up over others subjective opinions either.

Asking for better representation is hardly a 'social experiment'. If that's the case, you've had your turn at a social experiment with 30 years of pandering to men. Other people are just making room for themselves at the table. Don't worry, though. There's still plenty of games with plenty of eye candy for you. In fact, Bioware will probably still provide some eye candy. Asking for some of the women characters to be portrayed differently is hardly the catastrophe some of you guys make it out to be.

"Room" at the table was always here if you wanted. No one controls any of it. I hope it improves, but it's only going to happen organically. Not through social engineering.

But that still doesn't answer why you need crappy looking characters.

What social engineering is happening here? Fans providing feedback for what they want is about as organic as it gets. Nobody is sticking Bioware in a government controlled lab and forcing them to create....whatever it is so many men are afraid of. It's this kind of hyperbole that makes it hard to have a real conversation.

I thought it was fairly obvious why every woman in the game doesn't need to be 'eye candy' or 'crappy looking characters' as you put it. I want to see diverse representation of women. I'm tired of living in a culture that values women more for how they look than anything else. Women and girls need better role models. I think the stories we tell ourselves and who we choose to represent ourselves in those stories is important.

It's not hyperbole. It's standard practice. It's the only way to win against what you think is a domineering majority. By hoping you can change their perceptions and expectations. Especially happens in marketing and entertainment. That's social engineering.

But it isn't happening. They'll call it what it is. Butt ugly, like GeneralTSAR just said.

That's such a broad definition of social engineering as to be worthless. Again, it that's the case, you're engaging in social engineering to maintain the status quo. Everyone with an opinion is engaging in social engineering. There's really nowhere to go with that viewpoint but it's a nice way to dismiss what other people are saying.

Having the opinion that the Asari is butt ugly is shrug-worthy. I don't care whether you guys want to bone her; I just care that she's included regardless of your sexual attraction to her. Here's to hoping we see her in MEA.

So many fans. Such a following, while tweeting out this AGENDA. Meet Bioware's new writer. Bioware decided to hire this person, so I do not see why they would censor her opinions on their forum. People should know what the people at Bioware are like now. I would post examples of her fiction to show why she was hired at the biggest RPG maker in the world (for now because CDPR is coming), but she has never written any. That gets you hired at Bioware now days though. She also happened to write articles on Bioware games, ONLY praising and lauding recent ones.

http://www.pcgamer.c...ind-of-fandom/

I have a challenge to Bioware though. If they really think this is their audience now, and want to claim that they have no agenda? Announce this hire to the world. Also link her video on GTA 5. Have IGN do an article on what a great hire it is. NM, because they will not even let this post exist on this forum, let alone announce the hires they are making to push certain agendas. It would be financial suicide. So why does EA allow Bioware staff to hire people like this in the first place? WTF is going on at Bioware? Want to make a LBGT otherkin game make one. Do not sit there and retcon Asari and push Transgender, androgynous agendas, while high visibility people like Boogie2988 jokingly refer to ME:A as Mass Effect Androgyny.

Nice way to dismiss what people are saying? You just said right below that that our opinion is shrug-worthy. I think you're guilty of the same thing. Moreso, because you think we've all benefited unjustly or something for "30 years". Therefore, we should just accept whatever you say. You've gone and created villains out of us.

I disagree that Bioware is the biggest RPG maker in the world. That title I would say goes to Square Enix.

Lawdy, more hyperbole. Climb down off that cross. Nobody is making you out to be a villain. Having an opinion on what I want to see in gaming that differs from yours isn't going to harm you. So fragile.
