I never thought I'd see abstract concepts born on the internet being used to categorize real life events.

The D&D alignment system dates back to 1977. (Well, the one with two dimensions. Original D&D only had Lawful, Neutral and Chaotic.) That predates general public access to the internet by quite a bit.

And now it's been recycled and has become part of the collective mind - much like any idea disseminated in the internet - and being used outside the fantasy realm, in a fabulous demonstration of how formal education tends to be replaced by a fake popular culture, fabricated by the shadow groups that control the content online.

The use outside of fantasy is actually rather rare. I've never heard anyone I know doing it except in jest - and I know a lot of tabletop roleplayers.

Wow. I'm baffled.

I never thought I'd see abstract concepts born on the internet being used to categorize real life events.

Kudos for the shadow elite. They really managed to get populations all over the world to replace the formal education system for the parallel system of ideas and abstract concepts inserted and disseminated through the World Wide Web.

Imagine what they can disseminate from now on: social, political, ideological and economical "truths", all instantly absorbed by the population without any resistance. The web is now the #1 place for people to learn what (and more importantly, HOW) they are supposed to think tomorrow.

Mind control at its best. First it was the TV. Then the movies. Then the series. Now it's the crap memes on the internet.

It's official. Humanity is royally f***** for good. Resistance is futile.

lol.. To be fair, there is a similar political spectrum that almost reminds me of D&D. You've probably seen it.

Authoritarianism/Libertarianism

Leftist/Rightist (fiscally)

About Genetivi and the temple, if the Guardian still lives, I think it's reasonable to conclude that the Urn will stay safe from the public. So there's no harm in letting Genetivi make his report.

i the end, it is all about justifications, game like Dragon Age always give choices where the player make justifications on why they choose, even the choices are actually fake morality but it still based on real life morality the players accustomed with, how the player justify it that make game forums active...in anyway, we cannot escape bias...

The trend of making everything grey by add evil side on each choices nowadays making it unreal, there is always clear between good and evil, but players nowadays don't want that, somehow peoples nowadays are always skeptical...refuse to believe in pure good and pure evil...the result is it breed hypocrisy...

Good is a point of view anyway...

The slave blood sacrifice in Denerim. Feeding the Dalish to the wolves. Handing Connor to the desire demon -that are apparently non-pc , so they went extinct as a race lately-. Good times.

Plus, good ol' knife. Honest. Reliable. And shiny.

They're for the sake of entertainment, not for the sake of disturbing choices. Which is the purpose of everything in an interactive electronic toy about make belief fantasy land.

Wouldn't mind if Bioware allowed it... then had say a Cullen or Leliana type finally go "enough of this insanity..." and come behind the insane player and run them through or slit their throat and you get a nice little early game over epilogue.  It can't just be "o well, we will let you be a crazy and evil ****** and do nothing to curb it or stop it".  Origins did have some reaction, but you'd think the random murder knifes would have set off quite a few party members into a similar action as defiling the ashes.

That was the only issue with the "evil" choices... the consequences and reactions were inconsistent.

Speaking of Cullen, I would say what happens to him if you force him to take Lyrium is a pretty evil choice.

Posts like this are beyond desperate in trying to normalise what should be accepted and what not under the guise of "consequences".

You do something insane companions don't like? What should happen is the companion fights you and the pc has to defeat them. That's consequences. What you described is preachy and self righteous, from a dev's point.

Yeah, 12 mages at the final battle, but in the circle, when you are presented the option to kill the mages, you are just killing 3 mages.

So, aren't you an hypocrite? you said before that you had no reason to think that felemeth wouldn't return for the soul, but now you are naive and you believe you get mages AND templars?

It's not illogical at all to assume you would get some templars along with the mages. After all, mages are meant to have templars looking after them - the idea that the templars would let mages roam freely without supervision after what has happened is kinda dumb (and a big oversight on BW's part).

And regarding the soul, I said nothing at all about Flemeth. I just don't trust Morrigan with it - even if she is being honest and believes that it will work out OK, there's no way she can be certain, thus it's an unnecessary risk for such a minimal gain. Taking risks is fine if the payoff is worth it - saving one life (especially if that life is that of a man who arguably deserves death for his crimes) is simply not worth the risk of letting the archdemon's soul live.

Archers? really? now you are being just stubborn.

No, I'm being sensible. Against an enemy that fights the way darkspawn have been demonstrated to do, well trained archers would be devastating. Far more so than some barely controllable beasts.

Since you seem logical, again, why would you be so trusty to take with you in such a small party the enemy who tried to kill you the whole game?.

Because he has no reason to kill me any more. Killing me won't achieve his aims. I certainly wouldn't give him free reign to act as he wills, and I would keep close watch on him, but overall, he is a massive asset to the wardens. This is the kind of risk which is worth taking.

That's the point of being lawful evil, "From the point of view of most of the rest of humanity, nothing he did was necessary",

From his point of view, he's doing choices that are good, so from that perspective he's not evil by the description you posted earlier, and from the point of view of everyone who isn't a Nazi, what he did was in no way necessary, so again, he doesn't fit into your description. There are very few people in the world that would agree that Hitler's actions were both evil and necessary, which is how you described him earlier.

then why you support Anders?, he killed hundred of people just because they didn't wanted to get involved with the Templars vs Mages.

Where the hell did you get the idea I support Anders? I have not posted anything remotely suggesting that.

(for the record, I think his actions were wrong, though I can understand why he took them)

#HitlerDidNothingWrong

Or what? we can support Anders and Loghain, but support Hitler is wrong?

Loghain = Hitler of the Grey Wardens

Anders = Hitler of the Templars.

I really haven't the slightest clue what you're trying to say here.

So it's okay for the PC to make these "just kill him choices" but for someone like Cullen or Leliana, it isn't okay that they would actually act within their characters and take the PC out without a fight?  Please... Leliana would kill that PC in his or her sleep if she were to act.  It would be perfectly reasonable to have that be a reaction to your evil deeds.

Those good more morally centred characters, while knowing that sometimes you have to be ruthless, still wouldn't accept mindlessly slitting people's throats because... they would balk and they would attack.  Hell, if that happened in Inquisition, Sera's reaction wouldn't be any warning, just an arrow in the throat.  That is actually being consistent with the characters instead of "o, it's the pc... we have to cater only to their whims regardless if it makes sense with the characters around him or her".

You don't get to murderknife powerful enemies, you fight them. You murderknife injured homeless person on the road asking for a health potion. The same should apply to the npcs. If they want a shot at you, they have to fight you. Do you murderknife Loghain without a battle? How about Orsino? Or Meredith?

To be fair, one guy deserved it. It was more of a way of everyone just telling him to go away, period. Not just his character.

Sigh... but this reminds me why tabletop is generally better. All players have a voice in how group cohesion plays out. In these CRPGs, it's all about one player.. and everything becomes that player's sandbox. it'd be nice if NPCs emulated people and had bigger minds of their own. Especially with Bioware.

DAO had it's moments though.

Why would a character like Leliana or Zevran walk up and go "hey I don't approve!  Let's fight!"  Especially if you are an accomplished warrior/mage/rogue.  And I actually think assassinating Loghain would be an awesome choice... have someone set up and then shoot an arrow through the throat, or to have Zevran use his contacts to poison Loghain's cup..... I would love to actually get away from the traditional "this is a boss fight!" rules of games.

I actually have had a few of those... and sometimes they are a blast.

If you have a good DM and crew, they actually make those moments quite fun.  We had a group once where one of our party was starting to "become unhinged" and would seek to outright kill everything he came upon: "wounded enemy that might have information... nope, stab!", "trapped miner seeking help? Crush his throat!" "lost child... I'm gonna toss em off a cliff"... then we actually talked to the DM to have that "intervention" and won the roll so we stabbed him in the back, literally.  He actually laughed since it fit the session.

Because an arrow totally oneshots the pc or a named character like Loghain. You never get shot by arrows before or stabbed in stealth in the game, during battle, ever.

At some point, you have to accept that not all people are equal and susceptible to the same harm, in an rpg. What can off a nameless bum can't defeat the pc. It can't defeat companions either, when you defile the Urn, you fight Leliana.

And I'm saying that shouldn't be how it always is, just because that is how it has been.  Just because you are the PC, shouldn't be a magic shield against pissing off an assassin type character and reaping what you sow.  If you do stupid evil things, being dealt with in your sleep or your drink poisoned, should be a possible consequence.
