So after drunkenly buying all the DLC a while back I decided I would try and play Inquisition again, but I realise that I just can't bring myself to do it.
I installed the game to its own SSD (60gb OCZ from an old build) because I remembered the loading times were horrible. They are still absolutely terrible with it having you go through a loading screen to get to another black loading screen.
Seeing Leliana and Varric together made me angry again that Bioware didn't give a damn about modeling characters who first appeared in Origins to resemble themselves, but those that made their debut in DAII are recreated near flawlessly.
The keyboard and mouse controls have been improved from when I previously tried playing but it's like putting chocolate frosting on a dog turd. Every good option they added seems to have been done is the worst way they could possibly manage. It still feels as if I am fighting the controls more than I am the enemies. Using my 360 controller is a little better but Inquisition seems to go out of the way to make me feel as if I am limited while using it, I can't put my finger on why though as I never felt like this when I jumped back to Origins (or DAII) on the 360.
I have this feeling that I am never going to get beyond the starting area of the game, as every time I play I just get annoyed with the experience. I suspect I should stop playing Origins for a while and come back at Inquisition with the former game less clear in my mind.
Thanks for the opportunity to rant.
I just can't bring myself to play this game

Lmao, perfect response. ![]()
But I'm sad you feel that way OP, I love the game. Not everyone will though, it's a shame if you loved the franchise previously.

Oh and FWIW, I gave up and started to play on Casual. Screw it, I hate the controls.
Also I modded Leliana, Morrigan, Alistair, Loghain and Teagan to resemble their DAI selves more in DAO. Helped with immersion.
I've just finished up Haven and it was fantastic, the story elements of DAI are great. Really really great. But they're overshadowed by the open world and combat, which is a terrible shame as it's those elements that put people off.

I like the open world and combat. You are right about the story elements of DAI they are really great and so are all the characters.
As for Leliana... Why should she look exactly the same as she did in DAO? It's been ten years since the Blight ended. I think it's weird she even still has the same haircut.

Wait ... Leliana doesn't look like Leliana?
Spoiler
I think that's pretty close.
The shape of the face is different and she seems to be going to the same plastic surgeon as Cullen, either that or they've both been skinny dipping in the fountain of youth.

More than you could possibly imagine.

Sadly I'm considering doing the same thing.
I'd actually forgotten about Loghain, I usually kill him, it wasn't until I was watching a YouTube video on the scene in the fade that I realised how different he looks as well. Same magic anti-aging potion others seem to have taken and his face is far more rounder than it was in Origins.

I don't want her to look exactly the same, the passage of time should of course be taken into account. Yet not only has the shape of her face and eyes changed but she's gotten younger looking over the passage of those years, not older.
Yet as I said Varric remains near identical. Why not show that level of care to all the characters instead of only those from Dragon Age II.

I dunno....comparing their faces side by side i think that the DA2 face looks younger.
Ohh and also looking at the other picture that someone posted above it looks like the bump maps on the DAI models aren't as good. Bump mapping is how you make a 2d surface (ie their skin) look like it has depth like wrinkles and pores and stuff. So while the actual 3d mesh may have been changed to make it look like she is older, if they didnt do the texture maps correctly then it might look like she is younger.

This is my attempt at a more Inquisition-y Leliana in DAO. Took forever...pretty happy with it though.

That DAII committed the same sins doesn't forgive what Inquisition has done. At least Leliana had the same face shape. I could look at her in DAII and recognise her, even if she had been down the botox clinic with Cullen.
Your technical explanation explains why it happened, but why was it allowed to happen with some characters but care and attention was paid to make sure it didn't happen with DAII characters?

Could you share the head morph? I like the look of what you've done.

The "care and attention" to make sure it didnt happen to other DA2 characters like Varric may actually have just been inattention to that character. Varrics models may have stayed the same (maybe with a slight poly count increase) and all his texture maps may have stayed the same too. Both of those would have led to his character looking exactly the same in both games. Basically they just reused all his models and mesh assets without altering it but they altered Leliana trying to give her an aged look. I could confirm that by opening up all the default Varric textures and meshes and comparing them side by side. But i'm not going to go through all that trouble.
There could also be a lore reason for Varric not changing but anything i say about that would be pure speculation. They might have though that he's a Dwarf so maybe he ages differently...though i read that the races in this game supposedly age at the same rate. But he is a Dwarf born of the stone or some different way compared to Humans. Or maybe because he's a male character and not a very pretty one so they didnt worry too much about his appearance compared to other hotties like Cullen or Leliana.
EDIT: on second thought i just looked at Varric from DA2 and compared to DAI i wouldnt call it "near identical" as you said in your other post. Its the same face shape jaw shape and all that. But the minor features like hair, stubble, wrinkles and pores are slightly different. And those are things which would be changed with the texture maps not the model mesh itself. The quality on his facial features went up while Leliana's went down. Thats without even looking at them and saying that they look old or young compared to their other game model. But looking at all the character model work in the game that seems about right...neck seams visible, mismatched glossiness on the face vs body, mismatched quality on face vs body and different quality from one model to another as you mentioned.

I generally feel like none of the characters resembled the characters of old, Varric included. That being said, I'm not the least bothered by it. I always feel like the various characters were drawn by different artists and hence look different.
I'm more bothered by the controls which seem incredibly confounding, but turning on mouse look seems to have put most of those issues to bed. Not all. Most.

Sure, I'd be happy to. Um..not sure how to though. I had thought about putting all of them into a pack on Nexusmods or something like that. Loghain, Anora, Leliana, Alistair and Teagan are pretty good. My Morrigan is kinda derpy tho. ![]()
Is there a site I could just upload the Leliana to for you?
Oh and she might have some mods, not 100% sure but if she does it'll be skin colour/hair colour etc.

Here's Leliana's file, I do have the headmorph too if you want to fiddle with her. ![]()
I hope this link works, I know for sure you'll need LOTC eyelashes from Nexusmods, and if it doesn't look right let me know and I'll try to figure out which complexion mods I still have working.

I also can't bring myself to play it but not for any of those reasons. I am completely burned out after playing a perfect game lol I am so drained since Trespasser last year. I ended up playing SWTOR for most of the year. I am actually trying a perfect run of DAO right now though since my last time playing it I did everything but kill the dragon so the ashes were never found and it made no sense when playing DAI (I prefer to play the games and not tinker with the Keep settings. I just change the tiles based on my actual game I play).
