Seriously, I have a permanent facepalm imprint from just that one line:

"From this day on, the name "Shepard" will mean HERO!!!"

tumblr_m8d5xmQArh1r2o6too1_500.gif

That kind of STUPID line was already outdated in the 80s and we get it in 2012. Are there no savvy writers out there who can pull off something that will read/sound more like an adult conversation than a bad high school play? I mean REALLY, who says that kind of junk in this day & age? And more to the point, who on earth thinks "that" is acceptable dialogue in the 21st century?

I'd like to find out who OKed lines like that so I can show him this.

I really love a perfectly executed cliche, but i'm in the minority.

I enjoy some of the cliches but sometimes it can go too far to the point of embarrassment. It also depends on the passion of the actor too much or too little can be the failure of a cliched line.

Where is it from? It seems my memory refused to take it in back then.

I blame indoctrination device on Project Base, I shouldn't have holding five waves back then.

ME3 had some of the most cringe worthy back-and-forth dialogue between Shepard and whom ever he was addressing. Sometimes it felt like a badly written fan-fiction with all those one-liners running rampant.

Edit: I actually want Andromeda to take itself more seriously than DA or the previous installments of the ME series.

Here's my take on it. Part of the problem are perhaps the paragon and renegade conversation options. These are often very stereotypical. Because most choices in dialogue lead to the very same result, these dialogue lines are merely rationalizations. That also can be felt in the story, because long chains of rationalizations cannot create a good story.

Well, technically Jon Dombrow was just a player like anyone, during ME1. Then he wrote more in ME3 (he took over Wrex and Garrus for one). And those have a bit of the fanboy in them.

I agree for people latched onto Paragon is Good and Renegade is Evil BioWare got stuck making dialogue that would fit into either direction.

So "we fight or die" happened because of P/R? That's an interesting logic chain you got there.

Now I know who to blame when everyone starts spouting one-liners in Andromeda  <_<

On the plus side, he wrote Javik and some other good things. But for some reason, I can just feel his enthusiasm coming off those two. People knock Mac Walters, but I always liked his stuff. I thought Wrex and Garrus were cooler before.

No, it was to fit between the two extremes, so it would attempt to work with either a P/R focused character and that isn't the cause for all of them for cliche lines have always been something BioWare has included.

Funny, because I found Javik to be annoying as well as finding Garrus and Wrex a little cringy in ME3. Well just another reason not to buy this game new. I agree with Mac Walters, he is a great character writer. I heard he did a bit of the characters in ME2. But plot writing is not his strong suit. I truly think they should invite Drew karpyshyn to help work on Andromeda.

"How bad is it?"

"The next time we go to war, maybe the Alliance can spring for air support."

"You don't know them, and there's not enough time to explain."

"Synthesis is the final evolution of all life."

"We were hoping you would tell us."

"That assassin should be embarrassed. A terminally ill Drell managed to stop him from reaching his target."

"There's no regulation that says I can't date the ship's AI."

Guess you don't see the issue. You're going to need strategy and tactics to face the reapers to survive, so it is about strategy and tactics. So what Shepard said was just idiotic.

Why didn't I bleed from such one-liners during the first two games then?
