Hey,
I'm planning for a no reload full party team.
I'm wondering if you would advise <charname> to be a barbarian. That is because I'm afraid that SCS forces <charname> to be a fighter mage into my throat.

To be fair, Alesia_BH always plays SCS and she soloed a paladin pretty far in it (to Abizigal I think), so it's not forced, per se. But I do see what you referring to for us mere mortals, it does seem like being a F/M of some type is very helpful (so you can arrive in ambushes invisible, for example).
Are you planning in using MP created characters or the NPCs? If using MP characters, your main character can be almost any class, since your other characters will be designed to protect you.
I assume you mean Barbarian so you are immune to backstabs. That could work. But you could be another class too (say paladin) but have your mage make you invisible before transitioning between areas, and that could work too.
Hopefully someone else with more expertise with SCS can comment. I've played it some, but got clobbered pretty bad in the early going, even making an optimal character (a gnomish fighter/illusionist, chaotic good with familiar that could do invis 10').
Another option is to use the Cloak of the Sewers when invisible enemy thieves could be around - the magic resistance is meaningless (10%) but the piercing resistance quite useful against those backstabbers...

So much depends on how you like to play the game. If you're playing solo then you will need lots of patience to deal with SCS thieves and mages, but that's less of an issue if you're in a party and not too concerned if NPCs die. If you travel invisibly or under stealth you can make encounters much easier - any character (except wizard slayers) can make use of a range of item buffs that will be helpful in encounters and area effect spells can also be used from out of sight (any solo character can make great use of Bhaal horror to break up opponents).
A fighter mage is certainly a good option, but you can make progress with any class so I suggest you go with what you fancy and then build your strategy around their strengths rather than trying to find an 'optimal' build.

You can play any class in a no-reload run with SCS if you're using a full party. Of course, some extra survivability is useful (for example good saves, so playing a dwarf, halfling or gnome can really help) - but you shouldn't feel like you have to play a specific race or class to have success - your party can easily balance out all of your PC's potential weaknesses.

With a full party the protagonist doesn't need to be a mage of any sort, because mages are not as keen to switch targets as melee enemies in SCS from what I've observed. You can send your own wizards to fight arcane duels for you and have your barbarian hang back. One word of caution: with SCS on insane, I've had - on some rare occasions - high level enemy mages cast imprisonment. Including a dragon or two in ToB, though for some reason they weren't always using this strategy, which can make it dangerous for melee classes to approach a lizard directly.
