I too have had the floating character bug at least a half dozen times.  The only way around it is to re-load from a save, so I've begun to save often :?

I thought that if I saved the game from that position and reloaded that I might be on the ground - Not so *sigh.

This is still happening...Annoying as hell when playing on toughest difficulty and having to reload and fight through the tough fights again. Still no patch for this?

Add me. I got 2 saves with these strange glitch errors (let me know if you need them - and tell me how to post..).

I'll try to follow your guidelines:

1.
a: Mass Effect 2;
b: PC-DVD;
c: v1.02.

2.
a: AMD Phenom™ II X4 965 Processor / 3678 MHz / 3,99 GB
ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series / 1,00 GB / NOT LISTED, this is empty! Catalyst CC about version: 2010.0706.2128.3662
Speakers (VIA High Definition Audio) / 6.0.1.8100
b: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (6.1.7600) | DirectX 10.0 (Aug2008).

3.
a: who: character, later all allies (e.g. reload save game and after a while);
b: what: he is floating above an object, maybe he thinks he can fly.. I can't go DOWN (e.g. i'm floating above boxes or above starway barrier);
c: when: this is happening when you are next to a barrier/box/etc. objects and - maybe i press SPACE meanwhile - all of a sudden the character is ABOVE the object (e.g. starways's barrier). I don't think there's a time or exact location issue there, but who knows.. I got 2 save games from 2 different locations (saved after i was floating);
d: where: around objects which are half as high as the character, i don't think this is planet-specific;
e: why: ask the author...? See answer "d" maybe, check starway barriers (not invisible);

I saw a 4 month old post already.. any chance for a fix? O.o

(Sorry for my English, not native.)

Couldn't read it all out - but as someone smartly observed in another thread - this bug most likely occurs due to the "new" cover system in retrospective to ME.

If indeed this is the case, I'm afraid a solution will be very difficult, as It would involve some serious modifications to the cover system (or massive amounts of time of trial-and-error) to fix it.

Meanwhile, I would advise everyone to stay away from the corners, especially when with the weapon holstered.

I can't believe they did not fix this bug and it is still there a year later! I have hit it several times. Came onto this forum now to see if there was a fix. I guess I have to reload and fight my way again!

Got the same damm bug, in three different places. in xbox.
1)first one was in mordin clinic.
2)cant remember very well.
3)table in building, in the mission that you first get to see kaidan or ashley, i just got above the table.

in the past i didn`t had any of these bugs, i wasn`t using xbox live. after the update, and the DLC, it begun happening.

This is the PC tech suppot forum, not xbox. That said, there is nothing anyone can do to help, as its a clipping problem with the game engine.
All we can do is tell you to lodge a support request with EA, as they provide official tech supoprt for the game. Once they have recieved enough requests, will they even consider allocating teh resources into producing a fix. Dont hold your breath though.

Hmm, I'm curious about this bug because I have ME2 on the PC and the PS3 and have never encountered it myself despite playing it 3 or 4 evenings each week for the past 6 months. Does it just happen or can you make it happen at will?

I just happens, and it's random as hell (for me). I've gone countless hours of gameplay since the last time it happened, and I don't even remember the place it happened at...it was an open outdoor area, near the Normandy Shuttle, at the start of a quest. I kept getting stuck on rocks at the edge of a high drop-off cliff's edge. Happened on two subsequent loads, and I just avoided that area after that.

The time before that, Miranda kept getting stuck on one of the boxes you can hide behind for cover, and one of the planets where you go to save the colonists from the Collectors. Three times she got stuck early on in the map, and I had to fight (and die) several times before I realized what was happening, that she'd be waaaay back at the beginning, stuck on something, and me and the other squadmate would be dying somewhere else off in the distance.

Those are the two worst instances, and I have yet to encounter a stuck-in-place bug nearly as bad on my current playthrough, although my companions (and my Shepard) will occasionally get stuck temporarily in odd places. The desk in Mordin's quest where the people are behind the desk...I get stuck there quite a bit, and there are several places with ramps/stairs where I just know to avoid out of instinct probably. It's a sad solution, and I find myself dying a lot because I'm adverse to getting stuck behind or on cover. :-(

See I've NEVER ever seen the floating Shepard bug and I'm on my 4th playthrough - 3 on the PC and 1 on the PS3. I've tried all sorts of things to invoke it but it's never happened. Now I've managed to walk through walks a few times! I assume now that's the same bug! What I'd like to do is find a way into the normandy's cargo bay where you fight the oculus, and have a proper and relaxed look around.

It's even in Mass Effect 3 but more annoying and only in multiplayer.

Indeed, it is...especially bad on the Vanguards. I just had to quit 2 games in a row because of it.

Well.... happened to me several times... annoying, but I've always been able to maneuver out of it somehow, eventually . . . not so when you get to the Estevanico wreck, however... I've had to reload five times so far (no saving since this is a solo mission with no fighting) because I haven't been able to maneuver out of my character's [random] float. (Well, random insofar as it happens randomly when you're at some sort of edge . . . it could be the edge of a platform or simply trying to cross a beam.) In any case, you can't get out of it no matter how much maneuvering you do, so I have to keep restarting, only to get floaty again at some point. Well... this is now reload #6. Wish me luck?
