Social media is not a viable medium for constructive criticism or even constructive praise. You'll either get 'I love you Bioware, can't wait to buy your dlc' or '**** you Bioware'. Bioware have moaned about the 'toxic' environment of BSN but we've also had our fair few gems of criticism that read like semi scholarly articles. What you'll get with social media is the toxic element ramped up x100 with none of the redeeming qualities.

I suppose this also means Bioware can chalk off any criticism as 'lol toxic social media', like they attempted with the ME3 ending fiasco.

So, anyone has any tips on how reddit works? I see no other alternative at this point. I'm on tumblr but that site is... well.

It's actually quite simple. Any specific questions?

Well, I'm quite certain Bioware will enjoy the bubble they are making around themselves.

"Everything is great!"

"There are no complaints about our new games!"

"People love us!"

*POP*

"Awwww EA shut us down!"

......

Anyway somebody is going to create a private forum ?

Reddit is kind of alright but I prefer the old fashioned forum format where I can vaguely remember who is what.

As for the Bioware decision ...no comment.

I'm prepared to do something like that, I even replied to this thread about it.. but honestly I'm not willing to commit to something like this if people are not interested.

You know, although part of me find this amusing, it's also quite sad. A lot of people here want to discuss the game and things related to it. This is the only place this can be done for many, Bioware will take that away because they couldn't make this a less poisonous place. Or maybe worse, thought it wouldn't be worth the effort.

A lot of Mass Effect fanbased (and Dragon Age's) will be sidelined with this.

I've been dodging Facebook, Twitter and other such sites for years so that's not going to happen. I mean, I didn't even want to use it to communicate with my family!

I don't see Tumblr as being easy to something like a lengthier discussion on: I only use it for art and not conversations. Reddit does not seem to be as easy to use as this forum.

Oh and I have a diagnosis that makes it very unlikely that I'd ever find myself at a small and local concert so me attending a con or event is likely not going to happen to say the least. That's not even going into travel cost.

Basically, none of the presented alternatives holds much appeal to me.

I've been here way too long, made too many friends still here & long gone, and care way too much about this place. Too many memories of friendships, smiles, jokes, and good news.

Me, right now-

For technical support, that is still officially provided by Answers HQ. These forums have not had official tech support for some time.

You can also tweet to the official Dragon Age or Mass Effect accounts with a description of your issue and someone will provide you support, either by reaching out directly or by pointing you to the answer or solution.

The old posts will unfortunately no longer be available after October 25, 2016.

Are you completely deleting the board or can we at least read old threads? I'm guessing it's full deletion?

What's your suggestion to folks who don't use reddit, tweeter, or the other stuff? What would you do to get information about your product?

So while these forums constitute the most important gathering site for fans of Bioware games, they are being closed down because...Bioware appreciates their fanbase so much? At least be honest about it when you no longer want to carry the burden of maintaining a vibrant community.  The inverse reasoning really kills any kind of sympathy for decisions like this.

Hopefully if this thread keeps growing they might reconsider? I'm not hopeful.

I'm willing to bet that we won't even see another relevant post from the "community team".

Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr is no place for a discussion like we have in this forum and Reddit layout is confusing, ugly and boring.

This forum is beautiful, easy and i love it, helped a lot with some problems that i have and seeing this happening to the forum is just heartbreaking.

I think there is a lot of truth to this. The kind of passion and dedication that you get from people on a forum like this, who will spend countless hours discussing characters, stories both past and future, and so on...I'm having a hard time picturing that happening on social media--certainly not to the extent that you see it on here. It really is a shame and a terrible loss.

Products need criticism. It needs good and bad criticism if it is to become perfect (or as close as it can get) to the consumer. If BioWare can't understand this, and are only prepared to accept the good criticism, then they deserve nothing less than to be broken down and redestributed by the Devil that is EA. I'd actually support EA on that account. BioWare can't take the ****? They shouldn't be making games.

Reddit is not that hard to figure out, sure the interface is something out of the 90s.. but get an app like Baconit or Readit and you're good to go.

Reddit features cannot be mapped directly to forums but think of this https://www.reddit.com/r/masseffect/ as the mass effect forum on reddit, just sign up and subscribe to it and you're good to go.

Echoing what others have said...I don't keep coming here for the "Dev" interaction, but the "forumite" interaction. Lorecrafting, play through posting, combat/strategy, MP silliness, just to name a few. And I would have never been involved with some of the projects I was a part of, if it hadn't been for BSN/Bioware Forum.

So to that, I repeat what I posted on the Solas forum:

A lot of forum users have built friendships with each other. Those thousand plus page character threads, Me3 Mp forums, and DAIMP forums are good examples of that. They become their own small community within. BSN brought them together. And now you're just going to close the door on that? Some of us only get the chance to communicate on the BSN.

I feel like maybe tweaking Elicia's dialogue would be appropriate here?

Oh, what the hell...

'Why are they closing the forums?  Why are those men closing the forums?  Don't... the fans won't have anywhere to discuss the games if you do that.  The fans have always loved doing that!  Don't... don't close them.'

Okay, reading over the dialogue for that scene to do that is fine.  It's just... a little bit of rain.

Yeah this place hasn't had Bioware sanctioned technical support for some tiem. Ever since you removed it and the community stepped up!

Oh, yes, let's tweet the twitter accounts with a 140 character description of our problem. Oh, wait, that's not enough characters to fully explain a problem or to fully explain you may have done the many damn scripted "steps" a thousand times before and you're just looking to talk to a damn person about the issue.

And pointing at an answer....right.

How will that help for new problems or not simple, easy fix, solution?

You mean the Answers HQ that is a strictly user-to-user troubleshooting forum?

Or are you seriously prepared to recieve a comprehensive rundown of a technical issue complete with dxdiag split up into several dozens of tweets because Twitter character limit?
