One has to wonder where this absurd notion that 'forums are a thing of the past' comes from?

It came from people mining Conal Pierce's half-assed excuse for why the boards are shutting down and now the sycophants are jumping on it and acting like it's some super obvious common knowledge, even though before the announcement nobody said or even thought anything close to it.

It's even worse then that. I have a Twitter account so I could follow the development of the games that interest me. In the comment section I see only reblogged posts and likes, no conversations at all.

And now we drill down into the bedrock of their decision.

What you've described is exactly what they want, and it's all they want.

Okay now translate this to me in American.

FromSoft forgot to program Poise, and when people ask why it isn't doing anything in DS3, they tell us it's intentional. Because that's an answer that makes sense and isn't a lie in any way.

Isn't it more like, a few people are at blame, and the rest aren't? Saying that "the community is partly to blame" is like saying all mages of Ferelden are partly to blame for a couple of them frying a couple of templars.

I never thought I'd say this, but... I'm going to miss the endless mage/templar w@nk. :(

This thread is on fire and all we've heard so far is "it's not about the money", "it was a hard decision" and "we will still solicit feedback".

Not exactly. Did you see that? https://forum.biowar...8#entry20412271

... Sadly, DA2 and the endings of ME3 weren't enjoyed by everyone (I'm not bring this up more, you know what I'm talking about if you were here) and things turned much more negative than they had been in the past. Still BioWare and its fans worked to keep these forums going. It wasn't easy. There were people in the studio, some quite powerful, who wanted the forums closed. Yet, there were also those, like me, who wanted the boards to stay open and after much discussion, they remained....

Guess after so many original team left "powerful group" finally got what it wanted.

Hmm, I left my new mage Hawke, yesterday, in the chantry about to rescue Karl, when my son told me the news about the forums. Do you think I should finally side with Meredith? It is the end of days after all.

I could side with Meredith, stab Anders in the back and run off with Fenris...

Welp, time to learn to speak Polish so I can try to get hired by CDPR. Seriously, everything I hear about them makes me like them more and more.

Learning Polish is hard though.

NO! Don't let this turn you into a horrible, horrible person (although you can still run away with Fenris).  :P

Yea even a day after reading this still not seeing the logic behind it.

They value players and their feed back.

Rather then consolidate that feed back in a centralized location so developers can spend more time in one area then half a dozen places. And utilizing the other possible set ups like twitter/youtube for announcements and Reddit as a lesser forum to browse to get some extra feed back.

But rather then doing what literally every game developer in existence does they are closing the centralized location and spreading the players to the four corners of the internet. So instead of any developers needing to spend 20-30 minutes on one website they now need to spend 20-30 minutes on half a dozen websites to achieve the same level of feed back compared to having it all centralized.

This isn't logic. This is the opposite of logic. Anti logic.  I mean seriously as bad as some people think the ending to ME 3 is. This attempt at an idea is x3 worse then that.

I think we have all actually gotten a bit stupider after reading this. Our brain cells killing themselves to preserve our brains from trying to think to deeply about this black hole of logic.

I'm just gonna pull a snarky Hawke:

"So this is it. Some of you are worried; maybe I am too, but I'm not staying long enough to find out. What I know is that I hate being cornered and I can fight harder scared than they can angry. We're getting out, and I'm buying when we do!"

I did it once just to see that side of things. Get more info for debating, that sort of thing. It honestly made me physically sick. Defenseless prisoners begging for their lives, and Harbinger's balls, Bethany at the end... Letting Meredith kill her there is the most indefensible, outright evil option I've seen in a BW game. Probably gaming altogether. I couldn't even watch it on Youtube. But yeah, it literally made sick to my stomach to see (the only other thing in all of gaming that's made feel sick is synthesis). It really felt like going through a concentration camp "exterminating" the prisoners. Unless you're RPing as evil, I have no idea how anyone can rationalize that to themselves.

I remember one thread where pro-mage posters were talking about the Circle mages were innocent of the crime that they're being executed for. Gaider poked in to say, and I quote, "Who are innocent in the manner of, say, a kitten that CAN EXPLODE IN YOUR FACE AND TAKE OUT AN ENTIRE CITY BLOCK IF YOU TOUCH IT... and might also bite your nose just because." Nevermind that he literally doesn't seem to comprehend the concept of guilt or innocence of a crime, that "kitten who can explode your face" bit... Really, it truly is a mystery how people don't respect him.

O_O

You missed what I meant so far that you must have typed that post from Andromeda.

The BW peeps told us nothing of substance. Was it really that hard to infer from my post who I was referring to? Afaik Chris hasn't worked for BW for a while, so what the hell would he know about the reasoning behind the forums closing? He said his piece, okay. He also repeated what Conel said, about engaging the community elsewhere which we all agree is sensationally moronic.

Just... you wot m8?

Ahh, Fenris. I remember the first time I played, he turned on me like the beast he is at the Gallows. I didn't realize that was the final quest since the act just started, and I hadn't done the quest with his sister yet. He comes in all self-righteous and murder-happy halfway through the extermination. After finishing, I reloaded from before I past the point of no return and did the leftover quests. Oh my, vengeance (no pun intended) was so sweet when I got to pay him back for his betrayal by handing him over to Danarius. The look on his face! Absolutely priceless! 204582377.gif

On subsequent playthroughs I simply avoid ever meeting him. Preferably I'd like to be able to kill both him and Danarius, but since I'd have to eventually side with one and I think they should both burn in hell, that's unfortunately the best option available.

Burn the mages I say.

Is that your final solution? Err, answer?

The community is splitting now due to the imminent end of the BSN forums. New forums are being made by members, and while it's not a bad thing, it certainly will split the community up now that the official BSN is going to be taken down.

What sort of discussions can I possibly make on other social media sites? Who the heck starts discussions on FB comment sections or Twitter, especially? I doubt 140 characters is enough to start any conversation on Twitter. Like Rodriguez said: "This is bull****!"

The more I think about it, the more I'm just gobsmacked that they are willing to just delete everything. There's so much history here; why in the world would they want to erase all that history? I'd hate to be the person that's in charge of pulling the plug. It's like setting fire to a library.

It is horrific to think they hate us so much, not only are they shutting it down but DELETING EVERYTHING.

Seriously?!?!?!?!?!

I would write some long-winded TL;DR response to all this if I had the inclination, time and energy, or if I could. But obviously Bioware wants me to keep it limited to 140 characters. And even then they probably can't be bothered with criticism or even constructive praise if its too long.

And I've already wasted minutes I will never get back shouting into the void.

Twitter is more than sufficient  :P
