So, are you excusing genocide as long as the people doing the genocide truly believe it is the right thing? Because otherwise I dont get the point of going on about how much they fear magic in-universe.

I said it's not as much genocide it's closer to a stand-off situation in my earlier posts.

But even if it were genocide, I'm able to disassociate myself and escape into fiction to witness the motivations behind genocide - yes. So I get it. I understand why BOTH factions act and react as they do, which makes the conflict legitimate to me. It makes the feels.

And just because you understand and appreciate the reasoning behind evil doesn't mean you support evil. And just because a story is showing evil things doesn't mean a story is trash.. It seems like you guys are saying DA2 is trash because there are bad people doing bad things in it. I say a story is good when not only are there bad things, but bad people are humanized and you become aware of all the reasons.

Hmm.  Decide to drop in on this thread after a day...and it's moved onto genocide.  Ooohhhkay.

Sorry, it is all my fault...let me explain...

This happened...

I never thought I'd say this, but... I'm going to miss the endless mage/templar w@nk. :(

Then this...

Hmm, I left my new mage Hawke, yesterday, in the chantry about to rescue Karl, when my son told me the news about the forums. Do you think I should finally side with Meredith? It is the end of days after all.
I could side with Meredith, stab Anders in the back and run off with Fenris...

Then this...

Burn the mages I say.

That's all it took...

TBH Sometimes the evil ones are the best ones (in terms of entertainment)- sometimes the character with the most fun to watch/play/interact with is the one that wants to watch the world burn with style.

There is nothing wrong with that (in fiction).

Thanks. Not planning to; I've actually got a mental image of jumping in the last escape pod, though I'm not sure where it's going.

Though I may just put on my strategy gamer hat for a bit and sign on with a HoI 4 modding project. FWIW, the Paradox forums are just about as toxic as these boards ever were. Difference is, Paradox doesn't seem to give a damn.

This is about the forums shutting down and not the individual games or merits thereof, it will be lengthy, please forgive me, but I needed to put it here.

My oldest son handed me a copy of Dragon Age:Origins in January of 2010. My NE Druid had nothing to do. She had the latest tier gear and almost 10,000 achieve points including the Loremaster title, which in vanilla, meant completing something like 3,000 quests. She had all the fancy protodrakes from the raids and achieves within those raids. She even killed so many chickens within a certain number of seconds, shameful for a Druid really. Anyway, at the time, I gamed on a Mac.

My husband, at 46, was just diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer. I desperately needed something to do...to escape. I poured myself into the game. I then went backward to Jade Empire and forward to Mass Effect. I bought a gaming laptop to become a Founder of SW:TOR because BioWare wasn't going to support Mac. It is crazy, I own DA:O on 4 platforms, the rest on 3, and JE on 2. I have all the books, novels and comics, both digitally and in print. I spent 50,000,000 on a Republic Guild flagship and 50,000,000 on an Imperial Guild flagship, because our guilds were myself, my husband and our three sons. Both ships are fully decorated. Okay, and 35,000,000 on Satele Shan's armor which I will never live down. Obviously that means spending quite a bit of real money on packs and then listing the items on the GTN.

Out of all of it, what I enjoyed most was not seeing my JK in the armor, or walking around the flagships, or creating another Warden, Hawke, Shepard or Inquisitor, it was coming here to the forums to see other players just as passionate about these games.

I am just one person quietly reading thousands and thousands of pages.

My husband lost his six year battle with cancer in January at the age of 52. The thought of all of this not only not here, but erased, makes my heart ache. I don't want to use social media out in the real world...my real world is gone...shattered. I just want to go on quietly reading...

Please, BioWare do not do this.

Crap, I posted too soon. Meant to reply to this with my own sad sob story. HUGS.

Is the Right of Annulment really genocide? It's one controlled tower, tainted by lurking blood magic so profoundly traumatizing, like a locked house of suspects who're sitting on a payload of nuclear weapons who can level nations and won't give up who's the real culprit.

It's like stand-off situations between officers/soldiers and threatening cells hiding enemies. It's a hard choice but sometimes the military deems the enemy so dangerous, the innocents surrounding the enemy must become casualties. An ugly concept which we protected millenials who've only seen glimpses of violence on TV could never possibly comprehend.

I love the fact that this thread has devolved into a Mages/Templar thread.   I love you guys. I hope you go where I go.

I don't think I've heard much about the Paradox forums. It doesn't help that I'm not familiar with any of their games.

If you let me what you decide on, if you decide, I'd appreciate it.

Alan, is there a story behind the no avatar thing?

I've been wanting to ask this question for a while.

I know, but I jest (I just think they are fun to read in books sometimes given the proper context, and in games).

In one of the books, it arguably ended the blight while leading to the extinction of a species (not just any species, but one with significant tactical advantage against the blight).

Pros and Cons.

It extincted the Griffons because they had the brilliant idea to used it on them, and they couldn't resist the taint but the ritual by itself saved more than destroyed.

That's not my point. I am convinced that the criticism was a major motivator behind this decision, since it logically can't be about money and the reason they gave is ****. My point is that they don't have the balls to own up to it and they fed us some ridiculous illogical crap. "They don't have to buy it, they just have to accept it." Well, I'm not buying it and I refuse to accept it. Calling them out on their **** is all I can do, so I'm going to keep bothering them, even though it'll probably amount to nothing.

And this is why this board is closing. Would you feel better if a dev came by, quoted you, and said "Yep. This **** is exactly why we don't want to deal with this place anymore. It's been tainted by people who feel like the only way to express even the most mild of displeasure is to harass and belittle us in the process."?

It's good that BioWare is moving on from this forum. I remember suggesting a few months back that the forums should be closed. Although, for reasons different than the ones stated in the OP.

Looking at the last couple pages confirms it's for the best.

As the members of the BioWare Forum are scrambling to find new homes, questions are rightly being asked about the people proposed to run future forums.

As administrator of the Unofficial BSN (uBSN) on the ProBoard platform. it’s right that I introduce myself a little more fully, as I have had a colourful history on BSN and I want to set out my aspirations for the future of BSN which can now only be unofficial following BioWare’s decision.

I am Cassandra Saturn, a 27 year-old trans woman living in Puyallup near Seattle. I love and deeply enjoy the feeling of community that comes from discussing the pros and cons of these games.

I first joined official BSN in 2010 and must hold up my hand to having been a bit of a ‘troublemaker’ in the past. Never with malicious intent, but I can understand why people would have facepalmed at my choices about what I had done in my life and what I was and had made and the conversations I would have with my own alts. I know I drove the ME3 multiplayer users crazy long time ago. I understand how I got that reputation, but I’m older now, and if not wiser, a little calmer :-)

I'm going to try to stop arguing on BSN with those who have concerns, because the only real way I can address those is through my future actions.

I’d like our future home to be one that welcomes most sections of the BioWare fanbase, whether optimistic or pessimistic, appreciative or critical, a multiplayer or only single player. We can cope with cheeky and amusing (to a point) but will also be kind and supportive, and tough on the nasty and the haters. I want our forum to not only be somewhere that we can talk to each other enjoyably, but somewhere that in time even BioWare staff could lurk and feel safe to occasionally make a contribution without the pressure of it being on their official site.

I’m really good at building forums and forum structures, the uBSN group is already active with some 600 posts in 36h. But for the sake of credibility and community access I’m reaching out to some leading community members to help (with admin access), including some who may not previously have wanted do so with a 10 foot pole, so no-one need worry that anything strange is going to happen to this group going forward. I’m also assembling a team of reliable and communicative moderators who will moderate well not indiscriminately.

If we put our minds to it we can have a community to enjoy without some of the negatives. That will help to prevent our community from fragmenting. We only have a few days before official BSN locks, so I hope you will join me or at least check uBSN out.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

But the con isn't killing the griffons, that was stupidity.

The con is shorting lives, tainting men, making them go crazy enough to seek the underground.
