Did you ever properly rub it in the face of that friend who told you no one would even reply?
Of course, face rubbing is the best reward for anything. He was annoyed by how monumentally wrong he was.

It wasn't "bad behavior" in the general sense of sporadic insults that was my issue for recommending closing the forum but off topic posting. Off topic for the purpose of self aggrandizement or increasing the appearance of social value at the expense of other users and valuable dialogue. This goes with a lack of personal restraint and consideration for other users. Contemplation and speaking with intent in a public environment is important if you want to hear what the other person is saying and not simply your own words and reveling in back slapping.
For the most part, the problem seems rooted in the way different cultures communicate.
BioWare did learn from closing the Off Topic a year ago. They've looked at the data and compared it to their goals. Things aren't balancing. Closure.
If this closure is the best idea they have after making the investment and time to create this community then that really does give pause to think.
No one had to go to Off Topic. Ever. It's a choice.
The "reasons" provided for closing this forum are smoke and mirrors and PRspeak.
They are not strictly logical at all.
It's Bioware breaking up with the community saying "keep in touch honey! we'll see you soon!" and them waving goodbye- running to the airplane- forgetting to give us their new cell number or address and only letting us see their highly edited FB page.
Deepest sympathies for your loss.
Bioware - you have to realize how much this site means to your fans.
If not a financial burden than let us know what we can do to save this site. If it is a financial burden - many of us may be willing to pay an annual fee to help defray the costs... C'mon
No, he's not. He's just trolling. Badly, I might add.
No, I am not. But thanks for adding to my point.
Looks like I picked the wrong time to revisit the forums. I guess losing access to my original account (mousestalker) should have been the big tip off.
Best of luck, gang!
Long time no hear.
I joined this site. Its still a work in progress. So if interested, check it out. Doesn't cost anything except a moment of your time
So now I'm curious about this part where devs go elsewhere to get fan feedback or discuss BioWare games or such. Do they actively participate as devs, or are they random user names that no one can tell the identity? Because if they are suggesting there are better places to discuss lore, characters, plots, or various quest puzzles and tech issues, I'd really like a more detailed list of where I can find that kind of discussion. We know it's not going to be Twitter with the character limit, and tumblr is more an individual sounding board, so... where? Is it Reddit? Fan forums? I don't know how Facebook can work for this kind of thing, but maybe?
This might be coming across as passive-aggressive, but it really is honest curiosity.
I remember Patrick Weekes mentioning reddit. I guess it's easier to find opinions there since you can just skim through a couple of pages as opposed to wading through threads like on these forums.
So, it's been a good run, I didn't post as much as I probably could have, but I lurked here a lot for discussions. You guys made the wait for Inquisition a hell of a lot more bearable. So here's to you BSN, may we find somewhere decent to migrate.

I hear you on that but in my very humble opinion, dedicated forum space > Reddit any day.
All the threads that you're talking about? I perused them regularly and read a ton of in depth discussion about the lore and that was one of the many reasons why I still came here even though I mostly lurked. There is a treasure trove of intelligent opinion and debate on here about lore that I love. And it's going to be all gone gone gone.
Reddit is just not the same.
I guess you get credit for consistency and not suddenly being upset about it when you were happy about OT being nuked.
The writing was on the wall then as Fast Jimmy pointed out.
How can dialogue happen when there are embedded and strongly connected groups of users ready to call someone with their own opinion a troll or use other methods to attack the user and not the words spoken.
Sure much of that sort of commentary can be ignored but it is tiresome, time consuming and stressful to encounter. I don't blame the devs for not wanting to a part of it anymore than I would like to be.
Hmm. Decide to drop in on this thread after a day...and it's moved onto genocide. Ooohhhkay.
In fact in one of the romance threads some time ago, a husband came in on his wife's account, we were all so happy to see her online again, to say that she had passed. He wanted to thank everyone and tell them how much these forums meant to her.
I did not expect to read something so poignant in this thread right now.

Oh, I totally agree, I much prefer these forums to Reddit, for the reasons you mentioned, and for a greater sense of community. I'm just trying to understand why (aside from the ME3 history) the devs might prefer Reddit. Perhaps it has a larger audience? I wish I knew.

I really don't think they do prefer Reddit. I think reading between the lines is "get off my lawn" and "go do this somewhere else" is the takeaway.
Why should the last days of the BSN be different from the rest of its existence?

Look, I sympathise and understand your point.
But it just sounds like you're saying "there are too many veterans in deeply rooted threads and discussions for a newb to get involved in" + hostility.
That is simply not true. Sure, in almost any forum there are veterans and cliques and it's easy to run into hostility on the internet, but largely if you weren't a jerk and you asked a question around here SOMEONE would answer it very nicely for you and I can attest to this for the years I've been around.
Still not a very compelling reason to wipe us out.
Has there been any official response from Laidlaw or Flynn for example? Does anyone have an email address for any of these guys or even for a general bioware email?
I want to send a respectful email begging them to re-consider.
Interestingly on the Bioware's website it has a community section that links to here... what major game studio doesn't have a community? Interesting.

It wasn't the off topic forum that was the issue but the off topic posting in many threads. Especially in popular topics and even controversial ones. A lot of agendas and people that want themselves or their point of view to have the dominant voice and don't care how that is accomplished.
It's surprising BioWare is letting go of this community considering the effort, money and time invested but this is the decision they've come to.
Some of us are still wondering about the avatar thing...just saying.

So derailing of threads and domineering of topics that causes this.

Duly noted. Herding cats, too hard, must eradicate.
Mine? Actually, I was considering one, but CronoDragoon (I think) said that it'd be funny if I ended up being the only regular who never used one. So I put it aside.
Maybe I'll add one next week just for silliness.
