You know, it's funny, that new CEO guy of EA Andrew Wilson, aka Mr. Suavecito, had some very recent interviews where he's talking about the importance of players enjoying games with friends and community. It was not just a MP pitch.
He's been talking about how when you play an EA game you become a part of a community. Sense of community is what keeps players engaged, entertained and excited. BSN is a way if sharing the game experience with our friends. A community. Which also includes the MP community.
I don't have a link. I was just rummaging around the internet looking for...things. I was not expecting to mention this, however it struck me as odd at the time because BW is now doing the complete opposite of building community. This was a recent interview, too. I'd say within the last month...
Ah, wait here it is. It was from May 10, 2016 Marketplace (dot) org. And an excerpt:
"Wilson on whether he thinks of EA as a social media company:
Well, there are a whole bunch of motivations as to why we play games — inspiration, escape, competition — but the very core of why we play games is social connection. When people come to play one of our games they become part of a community, they share something with their friends, they compete against them, they compete with them, they enjoy the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat; and that’s a pretty special thing. And if you look at the way our players enjoy our games, it’s always done with their friends."
In addition, I ran across an older interview form 2014 that I found interesting,
The Guardian (dot) com Sept 5 2014:
"This whole concept of the industry hiding everything until the very last moment is an outdated way to make games. Invite people in as early as you can, deal with the feedback and build that back into the game. What you get two, or three years down the track are amazing games built with the help of the community."
