As a reminder to lurkers and active posters wondering about the current state of fan-run forums, there is a thread that lists all the current splinters that have sprung up with news of our impending doom. See here
Some have existed for months or years and some have been created within the last couple days, but it seems many people have jumped ship and/or signed up for multiple forums to see which one(s) are going to migrate information and be moderated the best.
ohhhh. This is what I was looking for. I was just randomly asking because I thought the networking thread was something about professionals or something.

Aye, and don't even get me started on what I've posted. Christ, I've written multiple essays.
Pretty sure I've written more than one thesis on these forums, especially around DAI's release.

Our developers are not spokespeople, and for those that choose to interact with fans (which a great many do) we want them to be able to do so in a way that makes sense for them. For some, they like meeting people face to face. For others it's Twitter, or NeoGaf, or Twitch, or any number of other sites.
As someone who previously had a GAF account with nearly 10k posts, and has a new one, it's clear you have no idea how that site works.
Not only does GAF require you to have a non-standard email account, but you're lucky if your account gets approved within months. I was a poster on the ME community thread, which got shunted off to the community section of Gaming after its importance diminished. People were discussing the same topics over and over again, and days (sometimes weeks) would go by with no new content being contributed. And even then, it was an echo chamber of like-minded opinions.
I even recall that the only guy who really shilled for ME, Shinobi, supposedly was friends/in close contact with some of the devs and would relay updates. There was next-to-no dev involvement in that thread.
Like, I know it's an enthusiast site, but pointing to GAF and Twitch (where you're lucky if you can even read comments half the time because they're scrolling by so fast) as examples for your argument is hilariously misguided.

I hate social media lol,it's fine as long as i don't need to register.
Forums are more comfortable and easier to browse and find stuff.
Maybe EA just wants us to use their forums. (http://forum.ea.com/)

Here's my guesstimate of what happened:
1) Analyst in EA says, "BioWare needs more visibility. Social network is the main venue of marketing, have them concentrate 100% on there. Do they still have the forum? Close it as redundant."
2) Message gets transferred to Bioware
3) BioWare decision makers give the message to community PR manager, say "Put a nice spin on it."
4) PR manager decides to use a common spin, "We're doing this for you."
The top error in this is, that social media isn't really a good marketing venue except towards young and/or inexperienced people, who are easily hyped and deceived. These venues are not good for marketing in-depth games. BioWare will, in turn, alter their games to ones which are shallow, and are estimated to make quick profits. Long-term product support won't be in the cards.
What is forgotten here entirely, is BioWare's earlier reputation, and average gamer age: well over 30 years now. The profitable trend is not towards shallower games, but rather towards games that connect well with long-time gamers who already have life-experience. Proof of this lies in the great success of Kickstarted remakes of thoughtful, classic titles, emphasis on crafting, survival and roguelikes with complex, realistic gameplay mechanics, as well as Kickstart's myriad of shallow failures. Early-access has been the cop out strategy in game depth, and it's receiving increasing criticism.
As this isn't taken into account, I wouldn't be surprised if in 5 years, BioWare had become a full-time cellphone & Facebook game studio, with less than a third of the staff it has now. It bears no mentioning how badly this will clash with their earlier reputation, and combined with staff platform inexperience plus demotivation - be terrible for their efficiency at turning a profit.
This deserves a repost.
EA has a history of cutting its nose off to spite its face. They constantly make kneejerk reactions in response to perceived problems, and kill entire divisions when they're not meeting unrealistic expectations (Maxis, most recently). And don't even get me started on stuff like the ill-fated "Bioware Victory".
It was just a matter of time before sometime like this happened. Won't be surprised if the company is shuttered by next year.

If they think people won't complain on social media and gaming review sites / metacritic they have another thing coming. At least here they would have had loyal fans defending them.
<<<<<<<<<<(0)>>>>>>>>>>
True, about gamers' ability to complain in other sites. We'll have to see how bad / good ME:A will be or that other super secret action type IP that supposedly is in a playable state.... whatever that means.
As to Bio loyal fans, you know what they say. "a person in love can't see the warts in the nose of their LI".

But, but... but
According to Wilson's presentation slides of May 17, 2016, DA and ME are top properties, after their sports titles.
EA's Aug 2, 2016 QTR presentation should be an interesting read.

The best solution would be if this place stuck around and reopened offtopic. Then the other ones can just naturally fade away.

Shame - been posting here for something like 6 years and I've only ever encountered one other forum that was comparable for in-depth discussions of a game; from lore to mechanics... with a healthy side-helping of sarcasm, cynicism and wry humour of course.
Looks like I'll have to find something else to do at lunchtime in the office :|

We are still very committed to actively engaging our community. Through both social media, at live events, as well as through community run sites, we will continue to solicit feedback and listen to what our players are saying.
Our community has always be a cornerstone of how and why we make games, and we will continue to engage and listen to what you are saying.
I support your decision you are doing good to the people this way some Bsn users will finally get a life and stop being drug addict about DA,ME ecc...

Sorry man. Bloware would rather be anywhere else but here. I guess they like the short praise over the long criticisms.

Disappointed can't even begin to explain my feelings on this. I've written, and re-written... and just deleted what amounts to what everyone else has offered to this topic.
Whatever they've got up their sleeves next, and the optimist side of me is hoping that they've got something up their sleeves, this gaming-mom and #spoonie hopes that it's just as great.

By nuking your very own BSN, you no longer have "our community".
What you now have is a mobile, console and PC target market

As with most issues, I hope for the best, but shall expect the worst. Hope the forums will remain open to better discuss games with others including the Devs, but expect that since the Devs do not see this with the same perspective, that the boards will close soon.
FWIW- still kill Loghain and Branka, side with the Mages, save Wrex, and choose Synthesis; y'know, things of true importance....

I have admittedly PM'ed ten or so users that caught my eye, but beyond that and modifying my signature, you are correct XD
Okay, off to bed for real, maybe.
*Checks PMs. Runs off and cries.
I just wish there was a concerted effort on a single forum for people to move to, but I suspect that is an impossibility.
People are going to sheer off to the site most of their friends go to, or those run people people whose posts they like. This is just going to end up with small communities where conversations follow something like this....
"I really like Dragon Age."
"Me too."
"It's really fun."
"yes it is."
Without the contrary voices and opinions that a centralised community like this forum has, conversations are going to get really boring very quickly indeed.
I used to be part of the community.
Now I'm just a forum-goer.
I used to be part of the community.
Now I'm just considered toxic.
