Sweet Nyarlathotep, I hate that. Of all the groups I disagree with on all the issues I disagree with them on, those people are the ones I understand the least. A galactic invasion fleet of Outer Gods has come to wipe out all advanced life in the galaxy through the most tortuous means, and some people only care about their romance. "EC is great, it totally fixed the endings!" "What?! It still contradicts the entire trilogy, the Reapers--" "Yeah but I got an epilogue for my waifu!" and I'm just tumblr_mht5oljr7a1qexr74o2_r1_500_zps31a

If there was ever a reason to shut down the forums, for me, it would have been because "romances" were becoming bigger than the actual games and it was all a bit weird. I mean they are basically all the same, agree with them until they give you a quest, complete it and then dry hump them. Yet there was a huge sub section of people that got obsessed with them above all else. If they were happy enough letting awkward dry humping overshadow the actual game for all those years then I don't see the point in closing the forums down now. It just feels like weird timing.

Closing these forums is a silly decision and one I feel was made at board room level. Seems pointless.

I'm skipping ahead a few pages to post before I go off and play something (risky, I know), but noticed a couple of people talking about gamers complaining on other places (Twitter, etc). Two things come to my mind.

1. The main problem with that is it's so easy on Twitter or Facebook to simply block or mute things you don't want to see, so Bioware can quite easily ignore complaints if they want to.

2. Ironically, one of the reasons I enjoyed coming to the BSN to talk about Bioware games, is that most of the people I chat to on Twitter either aren't into Bioware, gave up on Bioware due to various things (the usual suspects), or actively hate Bioware for various things. If Bioware thinks that they have a better reception on the wider internet it seems like it's only due to a broad application of point 1, and only paying attention to people who are always positive about their work regardless of valid negative points.

Continually saying the BSN is "toxic" seems wonderfully naive if you've ever read YouTube comments.

Anyway, at this point I'm over any shock, sadness, anger about closing the forums and now I'm thinking about where to move on to. The ultimate question I suppose is, which one of these alternatives will tolerate my silly sense of humour (see my posts in the Bad Screenshot thread for examples) and references to 80s/90s cartoons and wrestling?

While I understand your point- I think it's fair to say that when you create content, be it a book, a game, or food- you don't get to decide what your fans focus on and enjoy the most about your work.

You just do not. If a certain segment of the gamers really enjoyed the romances in these games and went down the rabbit hole about it, I think that is "ok" and acceptable. Demanding things conform to their view isn't smart and if Bioware (I'm not sure if this ever happened because I spent very little time in the Romance threads) and didn't just put out a blanket statement like "Hey guise we love that you love our characters but we're not going to *insert silly demands here*" that have been wise.

Also I'd like to post this, I make a soundtrack for everything, and their own song sounds apropos:

For me personally while the things I liked such as story, dialogue options, sidequests, etc...kept getting weaker the one thing that stayed good IMO was the companion characters and companion quests and romances are an extension of those characters. It means getting to know them better and getting more content with them. What should we have been emphasizing instead of romances? The weaker elements? The things like combat and graphics that I don't care much about and can't really be discussed at length anyway? I think if they didn't want people to focus on their romances they should have made the other aspects of their games stronger in recent years.

Holy Maker, what if there are no romances in ME:A...in that case, I am definitely not going to Andromeda. Nevermind, Scotty. I want to stay right here.

If there is no forum by the time MEA is out, then how can we talk romances and asari eyebrows?

Oh yeah, let's discuss our opinions in the impersonal atmosphere of Twitter, in 140 characters or less.

My speculation is that the Asari we saw in the most recent video is a young, peppy sort of character. She strikes me as a self-styled treasu

I'm actively trying to hold onto mods that aren't on the Nexus website so they don't fall into obsolete and slowly keeping track of the DA:O tool kit wiki pages and program itself. I like going back to old games and it's a shame Bioware was swallowed up by EA's practices :(  They used to be so fan-based.

I think Bioware doesn't care much for those long discussions anymore. Probably weighs on them too much.

Obviously you have never romanced Iron Bull...

See that is why these forums need to remain open, you do not know what you are missing.

If the Bull interests you it may be worth your time to read or participate in the ME:A forum on the S&M thread. At present, the Eleusinian Mysteries are leading a historical walk into Ancient Egypt where symbols of rule which had been syncretised into Serapis brought about the philosophical aim of the Pyrrho through adaptation into Hellenic thought. A metaphysical-sexual S&M delight of the interior mind. The subject might sway towards Mithraism and Barbelo Gnosticism if time and signs allow for it.

On twitter they can use bots to preemptively block anyone saying negative things about BioWare before they even have to see it.

But do they have to render the entire forum Damnatio Memoriae?

So let me get this straight,

You say you care about your community of fans, but here you are ready to destroy/fragment the community. Twitter and Facebook (both hold absolutely no appeal to me) are not suitable replacements.

It is extremely narcissistic to assume that we come the these forums just to talk to YOU. We don't. We are here to talk to each other about your games.

I fear this is the beginning of the end of the Bioware that we used to love so much.
