For me, the loss of the forum etc can be viewed as sad, etc.
However, the loss of the company that made the forum (founders, executives, culture, identity, and the possibility of continuing to see those games/experiences) was much more sad.
If I could only have one, I'd rather have the first. I think especially closing it at the height of the controversies would of possibly helped hinder that, but at the time my sense is they were worried people were going to actualize those threats and such that they made in response.
Honestly, at this rate the SJ trolls weren't even going to let people have the remains of the company. I mean in many ways Gaider was already like last kid on the team everyone had all left a long time ago, surely, they would at least leave him alone.
The only person who even retains some connection to kind of the "Bioware identity" from back when at this point I know of is like Lukas K.
Which is cool, but like, I mean if he were to make every character in a game I'd be pretty excited, perhaps, kind of needy though on my part I guess.

Old Bioware died painfully and slow some time ago. EA's lobotomization is nearly done now.

Not even Bioware says it EA, everyone connected to Bioware (Trent Oster, etc) makes painfully clear who was truly responsible for their problems.
I'm going to add EA has been by far and way the best mega corporation I've ever countered, their wait times for things and such is like non-existent, nope, it's super clear, as stated, the people that were truly responsible.
I've been gaming awhile, I know what toxicity is, I've seen it countless times, I never imagined it would rise to the level of death threats and all this nonsense, but it's super easy to tell what the problems were, where they came from, etc.

I've had this song in my head since the announcement. Since it was from the end of ME1 and it's now the end of the BioWare forums, I think this is appropriate. I'll be around until the end of this place.

"I...have wondered about you. Where will you be...when this is through?"
Great I hadn't cried all day...now this!
Well, could we implore them that we "need to recover because" we "can't make it on our own" as a reason for keeping the forums open?

I haven't, but my NWN1 group did back in the day. Of course, this was set up ahead of time.

Anyway, even now this whole forum and most of this thread is flooded with White Knights and false liberal superheroes who have no real connection whatsoever to LGBT or the like, but are just like trying to pretend they are "there" for people after having like (metaphysically speaking) just clubbed their friend into unconsciousness.
I mean really, pretty much every LGBT person I know that was attached to Bioware fled this place a long time ago, this was just (like RPGCodex, etc) just like neogaf the center of that big leftist hugbox censorship thing that's stuck to gaming like a parasite.
Pretty much the only appropriate compensation for that is 1) Dismantling and tearing apart the toxic internet/communication culture that has been going on for some time. I don't know how that's done, but if dozens of famous youtube and Reddit starts or whatever for some reason were suddenly bankrupt and destitute that would be a good start.
Or 2) Getting Augustine Yip to come back to Bioware (J/K... although that would be cool) or otherwise providing that identity.
As you can see, it was a company utterly devoted to converting all straight people into gay people, and otherwise terrorizing the world with their fragility to criticism and trying to make sure everyone suffer as much as possible.

Yeah, but between Australians and New Zealanders, what's even the difference. You both talk funny and spread weird things on bread.
Actually, I'm eating crumpets right now for lunch, with jam. There is also a hint of onion because I forgot to wash the chopping bored last night and the bottom of the crumpets obsorbed the left over onion essence.

Lol! Well, I do tend to call them pouch dwellers so it's always a possibility.

My initial reaction was that Bioware/EA is doing this...^
Then I thought this news is sad and baffling, considering ME and DA are still well liked franchises, and ME:A was looking kinda promising. Not having forums suggests that Bioware/EA want a one way conversation with their fan base rather than actual dialogue, Twatter/Faceboot are a better platform for this. I'm also not sure spreading fans across the internets will help with any backlash against a new release that is not well received. As wallets will just close, through word of mouth, game site reviews, YouTube vids etc. After all are lots of small storms all over the place really any better than a hurricane that is mostly contained in one place, that you have some control over?
That's going to be hard to do. If you read their main social profiles, it's clear that all the content is standardized between them - short, pithy updates, most of which are promoting merchandise or crowing about con appearances. Seems like it's been going down this road for quite some time, and to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if they run their social profiles off one centralized software that publishes status updates at the same time (like Hootsuite). It's lowest effort for the most profit. Why bother paying people to run accounts when you can post the same update to 6 different sites at the same time?

Stop it with all that insightfulness.
I couldn't agree more.
Also: poisonous, destructive, venomous. All fun words that can be used in place of the T word.
I myself enjoy the word "vitriolic". Such a fancy one.
Heard that one a lot from a youtuber in one of his videos to describe the reaction of people against the Bethesda-Steam paid mods fiasco back in the day (not that he agreed on the paid fiasco, mind you).

There is a Silver Lining here though, IMO, which is that perhaps Social Media/Internet culture will just kind of die in general, and people will go back to paying for the things they want and not ripping them off, and getting to know each other in person or having more physical experiences.
That could be great, actually, it hurts to kind of sacrifice gaming to this huge behemoth of Troll country and all it's greatness for that, but would do the world a lot of good.
Crossing my fingers for liberal ideologues to go the way of the dodo as well.

First, thank you so much for the video, I had never seen that before. But, I can't agree. I have been here for years and I am still straight...I think. Maybe I should test it. I know this DA2 run I will say yes to the pirate...wish me luck.
*runs off to wake the computer up*
Seriously, though, I do agree that today's BioWare has radically changed, and, that is the real tragedy here and the reason these forums will not only not be here, but cease to exist.
Now, If you will excuse me I have to go queue the song Natashina put up earlier.

Well, as I was just saying, the enormous internet Troll community has changed as well.
The more that I think about it, as just stated, if someone were to tell me Bioware is gone but so is vast swaths of troll culture and such were also changed forever, I'd say... hm... you know kind of like a war when a city is sieged and holds out for a long time, but while they ultimate lose, the nature of the conflict changes the aggressor forever, in ways that ensure perhaps for instance they lose a later conflict, and all that?
Like imagine if we had true first amendment rights in the world? Like you could actually say anything that you believed with no repercussions?
America could carry the banner for instance could transform from hipster progressive into actually progressive, albeit in a limited, childish way, but still, that would be something.

I do so agree with this part.
America might just be too PC for that now I'm afraid, but one can hope.
And, thank you so much for coming into the forums tonight (where I am, anyway). It is great talking to you, though we may have brought the thread to a pause...oh well

Did we? Nerds brains tend to be wholly and utterly different from geeks, we don't remotely see the same world in the same way, I wouldn't know.

I am not sure anyone sees the world the same way, the forums are proof of that. Still one piece of common ground is enough for me. We all have loved BioWare games...and, most times, these forums.

The pressure is releasing. It's similar to that feeling after a whirlwind breakup where a bunch of things get smashed and a lot of yelling but no one got hurt. The house you once shared is empty except for a few things. Your ex has found someone to ease their pain and a new place to dwell. Relief.
The greater fight of life is not over for anyone as change settles into old routines. Many of the same problems will remain as old habits unfaced continue but theirs are not your problem anymore.
