I've been a bit busy reading other threads, but have I mentioned how much I love you and the other Solas Thread Users? Cus I do.

You ARE prefacing the invites with "Come with me, Vhenan." right?

maybe they are anticipating a backlash from ME:A as well

If they are, closing the forum does nothing to help them. If anything its pre-fanning the flames.

Nah...... not backlash. Just dumb, fanatic, crappy criticism from "fans."

Things just haven't been the same since they migrated from the old site. And with all due respect to Conal, I don't think he was quite as attentive as a community manager as Chris or Jessica in the past.

It would be beneficial to BioWare, financially and socially, to leave the forums open. Here's why:

1. Mass Effect Andromeda is going to release in the near future. You'll need the forums to accommodate those fans and provide for discussion.

2. Social websites like tumblr and reddit are fads. They will likely lose popularity like My Space and any of the other forgotten blog sites. The Dragon Age wikia (another blog) has also steadily lost activity over the past year due to bad management. The forums will last longer, and they can be updated and improved if needed. You have no control over the fate of other websites or if new ones will arise.

3. The forums allow BioWare to generate and hold interest in their products. More fans come here all the time and discuss the various games to no end. That allows BioWare to maintain a fan base and an interest in their products.

4. The forums are an easy tool for advertising. Why pay for ads on Yahoo or MSN or IGN and hope their tracking programs (spyware) is adequate enough to target your customers when you have all your customers right here in these forums? You have some news about an upcoming product? Post a thread. You want to spark interest in a project? Post a thread. You want info about your product to travel by word of mouth? Post a thread.

5. You can't trust other websites to provide a social environment that suits the company's best interests. Those sites and the rules of conduct are set by their respective owners. Do you really want your fans to have potentially negative websites as their only outlets of speech and expression? Some sites allow rude and inflammatory behavior. Some allow obscene content. Conduct such as that will likely turn fans away from your products. Better to have these forums open for those fans to enjoy a civil message board that BioWare has control over. One that BioWare can set the rules for. One that shows up first in any Internet search.

6. Closing the forums will definitely turn fans away. I don't use Facebook, Tumblr, or Twitter. I don't use the wikia or any other fan site. Besides, those websites don't allow for in-depth discussions or debates. The formatting doesn't allow for it. These forums do though. So if you close these off you'll be fracturing your fan base, and most won't bother to find any new forum to discuss your games. They will stop talking about BioWare products, and that could lead them to stop purchasing your products as well.

7. It is much easier to read fan feedback here than checking all the various fan sites. The forums allow suggestions and feedback to be grouped and organized in one place. This actually saves BioWare time and effort when it needs feedback from the public.

All of this.

Like virtually every other fellow forum user has said, I don't come here because I expect to engage with Bioware developers. I do it because I want to speak and argue and have fun with fellow fans.

This is where the chemical composition of Tali's sweat was analysed, this is the place where the Miranda fans got into a civil war and managed to close the entire Companion forum, this is the place from which we sent red-blue-green muffins to Bioware HQ while everyone was using a "X deserves a better ending" banners. It is from here that we all but write essays on worlds that don't exist.

Good times.

Met some nice folks here

RIP BSN

To be fair to Chris, was Priestly even a community manager? He was a coordinator wasn't he? Different position.

This is a terrible, awful decision. I don't see any good coming of this. As I said in another thread,

I've been here since 2002, and I'm gonna miss you guys. I'll see you all at the Retake ME3: Initiative Log Facebook page.

I don't think I have ever seen a more transparent attempt to quell criticism.

I don't see a ton of criticism here. I see honest attempts to have substantive discussions about game design.

Where else can I get that?

Here at BioWare we've listen to all of the feedback you've given --In contrast to our earlier foreclosure of the Off-topic forums, we've decided to give you a full month headstart in advance to flee from your house like a man in expensive suit running out of his check from a seafood restaurant before we inevitably nuke it from orbit, entirely.

Thank you for your continued understanding.

True. This place was better then;people could get away with a lot less. Thus it was harder to stink up the joint.

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

I hope everyone here shows Jesse Reid the love he deserves for being the one employee who never left the forum. Like, no cheeky insults or trying to be funny, I mean genuine appreciation for his dedication to this place.

Is this because I just gave everyone 1000 likes a day? :) I figure it is like a going out of business sale, we only have a month left to use up all our excess "like this" inventory!

Various concerns

- try having a lore discussion in Twitter's character limit

- sites like Facebook (although you can make a profile with a fake name and stuff I guess) involve a profile which for most people has their real name, location, often job details, etc (concerns about security and privacy)

- I love Tumblr and a lot of the ME/DA community on Tumblr but let's face it a significant proportion of the ME/DA community on Tumblr is downright ugly and toxic

- people who speak other languages ex. French, German wanting a place where they can discuss the games amongst themselves in their own tongue

- not everybody has or wants social media

- losing most of the great discussions/lorecrafting/and so forth that's occurred here. I mean some of us will archive bits of it I'm sure but ???

Not to mention how silly the whole reasoning in the first place is

Like BioWare we don't care the devs don't post on the forums, we're here to discuss the games WITH EACH OTHER and enjoy the community we have here.

Besides how much can maintaining a forum really cost anyway, it's mostly running and server space right (feel free to correct me on this tho)? Especially if you hand moderating responsibilities to fans. It works on Reddit.

not seeing any of this addressed BW :(

This was my first ever attempt at social media and the only one I ever came back to repeatedly.

I actually used my years long presence here to try to convince Google that "Sylvius the Mad" was my real name.

It's as real a name as any I've had.

You know, not all of us our social media whores. But I get it. The Bioware forums are no longer that useful to you, and you're the ones keeping them running. I guess I'll just not be discussing DA or ME online much anymore.

Nowhere, at least not in the way you'll find it here. Social media doesn't allow it.

For every wrestling forum that eloquently converses over how a wrestler isn't all that great and could improve, you'll always have Twitter/Facebook/Tumblr/Reddit to provide, "X is bst evar, shud be chmpion"

Same goes for this.
