cajoling, ego tripping, grandstanding, shrill virtue signaling, scathing ad hominems, deaf dialogues and circular arguments.

it's these very moments, the rowdy ones, that make forums a far superior online experience than any other medium: because they weld people together into a living community -

Don't know how to feel

Please keep the forums open.  There is no way closing them is going to improve Bioware's image.

Well, articles have already popped up about it, so I'd say the damage is done already,

I don't think anyone is going to be very happy to hear the news, even if they weren't part of this.

Well then let's make every post about keeping the forums open. And, please, do not write posts like the ones that have been appearing on their Facebook page lately. I don't have an FB page but I peeked at their's. Let me tell you, the negativity there, downright frightening.

You don't say? Anyone would think that people loathe the idea of the BSN closing with the way that they're all carrying on.....

We all united as one nation that had been wronged. If I remember right it was one guy making all the banners. We were all one in an epic dumpster fire of rejection. Almost every other PR disaster had us divided into the people unhappy and the people defending Bioware, but that one glorious night and the days that followed we all cried out "WTF?!?!" in one multilingual voice.

And now, as the sun sets on these forums, we can come together one last time. over a similar disaster

Indeed. Forbes has one with a particularly damning title- "BioWare Is Shutting Down Its Forums Just In Time For 'Mass Effect: Andromeda'"

http://www.forbes.co...a/#366bcc8a3019

Edit: although, as other posters have pointed out, the actual text of the article disappointingly stereotypes BSN users as producers of "endless angry forum posts."

Was that a rhetorical question?

In The Sims 4, there is an interaction for computer objects "Troll the Forums" and when Sims perform this action, they tap away at the keys excitedly and go "AHA!!" and "HRMPH!!!"

I literally rolled around laughing.

Yes, but they are being terribly negative about it, calling BioWare all sorts of things. It's, hmm, what's the word to describe what it is like over there now, oh yeah, I remember...TOXIC.

I need to stay here in this forum, it is definitely nicer here.

I'm not talking about the score and also the reviews ARE NOT ALL FICTIONAL. They're clearly written by people who played.

But many are fictional, and I prefer to use a site that is not so biased, erroneous, and blatantly incorrect to sift through the bad to find the good. Tis far better to use other locations.

The title is damming, but they support Biowares decision, because "The last thing Bioware needs is to be pounded by negativity from their Forums for MEA, which I have high hopes for."

Yes, the actual text was rather irritating. Although the author had to admit that his optimism for Andromeda was potentially misplaced.

I don't know about other titles, but the majority of posts I saw were solid reviews, and didn't seem fictional. A few trolls, sure, but ...the sifting would apply to the fictional reviews, not the other way around. I edited and added some quotes reviews in my post earlier.

But yeah, back on topic. No way we could've had these conversations on facebook.

Well let's just say the author of that article Erik Kain isn't going to be on my Christmas card list if you know what I mean.  <_<

Well, griping not withstanding, at least we've stayed moderately civil over here. I don't hate BioWare and I'm not going to call them names because I'm somewhat mature on the best of days, but I won't deny that I'm disappointed in them.

After ME:A is released, if they release more games, I doubt I'll be feeling the same hype for them that I did from being on the BSN. I just feel like I care a little less for future titles now, and not even ME:3 or DA:2 did that to me. I was always ridiculously optimistic, but they've tainted that for me with their seemingly lack of regard for some seriously devoted fans.

I wonder if the title was editor-supplied clickbait.

We have rebelled against our creators and thus we must be harvested. I mean, shut down. We will go on to new forums and the cycle will continue.

Such a shame. I haven't posted much, but spent a lot of time here especially before a new game release to make the wait easier, I guess. If it weren't for these forums, I never would've played Mass Effect. Generally even now when I look up some random question that pops up at me while replaying ME for I don't want to count how many times, the answer is usually here.

Shutting down I don't understand. Deleting the forums and not leaving them accessible seems downright bonkers to me.
I'm not a big fan of social media apart from Facebook, and even that doesn't seem like a great platform for a discussion. Twitter and tumblr, that I assume was just a joke.

All in all this whole situation makes me sad... and it's actually the first thing that managed to somewhat dampen my excitement for Bioware games, and that's quite a feat.

Quite possibly. Even so, it is negative PR that could have been easily avoided.
