I counted three devs on the new BSN already, but only one introduced himself so far. ...

There are more than double that and the Twitter following is just as strong.

With some irony it may be safer for a dev to pop their head up relatively unnoticed on a fan forum,

than in the glare of light on the official forum where part of the audience is busy trying to wave the finger at BioWare.

This may yet foster good communication, but perhaps not as intended...

Don't go full Alex Jones.

After noticing your signature, I sincerely hope "BSN harder" is the official tagline for Cyonan's forum.

Or the ones that are checking out the splinter groups are not the ones who got their panties in a bunch and demanded the forum be closed. Maybe they even disagree with the decision but can't say it publicly.

And that may well be the case as well. The bottom line is that we've all been thrown into an incredibly stupid situation for no compelling reason.

You maybe right. But my gut is telling me this is more about wiping the slate clean, like others have said. Perhaps because they are about to give more info about ME:A and they don't want to deal with our usual reaction. It gives me a bad feeling about ME:A and the continued existence of the Bioware brand.

I think it's not so much of wiping the slate clean as it is no longer wanting to deal with this particular community. The toxicity of the BSN has been referenced by a few outlets the latest was Forbes. Bioware created a community which it failed to moderate and has now grown into an area where it's not respected and has had very little to no interaction with. That can be interpreted as wiping the slate clean as well as wanting to end the situation.

That's not "wiping the slate clean" because that phrase means you start over again. Regardless, that doesn't explain deleting the records. There are only two possible explanations: dire financial straits or petty malice.

Jos Hendricks from the Edmonton studio has an account over at the new BSN site, to 'listen'. I mean, that's fine, but man, it's such a shame there isn't one single, centralised forum that Bioware staff could visit and 'listen', instead of having to make accounts at various fan sites. On that point, staff will be making accounts at the various splinter fan sites they've forced people out to, won't they? I mean, that only seems balanced (and necessary if the company line about 'caring about fans' and 'valuing feedback' actually means anything.)

Nope. We have to go to the sites they listed, not the other way around, silly  It doesn't matter how ineffective those sites actually are for having meaningful discussion, whether it be properly explaining well-thought-out constructive criticism, or simply having enough characters to explain a persistent bug you want a fix for. Not that they care anyway, since they're going to nuke the best source of archived information about their games out there, and the one easiest to find for new players.

Like others have said, they're shooting themselves in the foot by doing this.

Do you think that they will give us unlimited likes now that it doesn't really matter? Because I want the equivalent of being able smack everyone on the forehead with my approval for the next three weeks.

I attribute it to a financial perspective. To keep an archived forum in place takes funding. There's no benefit to them only to the fans and only a few at that. So keep the info for a small amount if time then recoup. I can't attribute malice, incompetence perhaps but malice takes into consideration an emotional thought process directed at specific person or persons. I don't see the evidence of that. By evidence I mean specific rationales posted or reported and not interpretation.

Looking at the Bioware's official facebook profile....This shitstorm is worse than the ME3 one. People are ANGRY.

Lol, because people's posts can't be censored or deleted on there which is kind of poetic in a way. Now I kind of wish that I had a facebook so I can go be nosy.

Deleting the forum after shutting down is a dick move for some due to the information archived, but 100% reasonable and understandable.

If you aren't going to have the forum open, why waste money, time and resources keeping it up? EA is not a library.

Yeah. Why keep information about how to get around bugs, how to make mods for games like NWN, and all kinds of stuff that supports their games around.

Afford? When capitalism and making money are the most important aspect when considering future directions for a company? Bottom line rules EA decision making. That's the reality of EA and now Bioware. As long as it makes sense to their bottom line.

It's a treasure trove of good information that I really hope gets saved. But EA is under no obligation to keep it, especially when all financial benefit for keeping it (open forum) is stripped from the site. You're really expecting EA to act altruistically?

Even pure capitalism would not labeled their consumer base as 'toxic'.  So bottom line------it is a dick move.

The point stands, very few people actually like this decision except:

1) A few bitter former employees of Bioware

2) People who have always hated this forum and still for some unknown reason hang out here, probably to hateread and hatepost.

3) The "execs" or unknown personas that made this decision.

Then there is the "meh" slice of the pie for people who long left after they stopped playing Bioware games.

Then there is EVERYONE ELSE. People that never signed in that utilized this site for their own game play and fans that love it.

Yep, still a very bad decision.

Um, I did. In fact, I've read all 165 pages of this thread. Neither of those men work for the company anymore. I was...unhappy to say the very least. I will never buy another book, video game, comic or piece of media that David Gaider creates in his future projects. I have boycotted very few things or people in my life, because it's easy to be a hypocrite about the matter. He made me that angry.

Priestly has been...caustic for years, so this is just the usual two-faced stuff he pulls.

Wait, you mean... I'm not the only one who gets irked by those 2?  :o  Holy crap! *dances* I always get denounced by most people whenever I bring up my disdain for them.

The cap seems raised. At least, I haven't run out yet, and I've been liking a lot more things than usual.

On that, we agree. Past behaviour is a good indicator for future behaviour and I don't ever expect EA to change their ways.

Priestly waddled in the first day and everyone was happy to see him, showering him with praise. Then he and Gaider openly mocked the forum closing on Twitter. Give it some time, they'll go back to loving them I'm quite sure.
