Theres also a ton of ridiculous nonsense with time-turners (which still exist because **** you) allowing the main characters to go back decades and create alternate realities, despite time-turners not working that way. Plus just generally **** characterization of older characters.

I must admit that I was really skeptical of someone other than Rowling writing a 'sequel' and it is quite saddening to hear that it has turned out how it did. Personally, the death of internet toxic culture and bait culture and a dozen other things, just the death of coercion in that sense I believe has already been achieved and to me that's the  main thing that matters.

 

Whether BSN stays open or closed is irrelevant to me in light of that greater achievement, the fact that yet another gob of people caused excess damage means rights and privileges vis-a-vis that group (toxic troll culture) are hereby stripped and the status quo shifted to reflect a new normal.

 

Personally I had gotten sick of social media by the time I started posting here, so good riddance, hopefully now the world can begin to make actual progress again.

I mean talk about censorship, this place was the absolute apex of that, violated every conceivable fundamental law known to humanity, and for what? Because a few people had feelings of powerlessness?

I've been able to speak fairly freely here as long as I don't curse (their board, their rules, so me and my pottymouth is fine with that), heck, I still don't have any warning points, but I think that's because they don't know that this car is sentient and are off looking for the driver  

 

If you mean on the community/user side of things, well, I've found that adding the little blurb 'in my opinion' allows me to get away with saying pretty much whatever I want as long as it isn't hateful, derogatory, or excessively stupid (let's not pretend that ol VroomVroom doesn't post stupid things sometimes). The White Knighting has never really been much of an issue for me because I just chose to ignore the posts and instead addressed the people that I thought would provide a good conversation.

so they close the forum to support other medias more useful, and they take time on a private forum to talk to us, or observe... why don't keep the offical forum, then?

Well Jos is interacting on the new BSN but he's always been interacting on the BSN twitter threads.

I really feel like somebody in Bioware blew up when they read that thread, "Do you think Bioware's annoyed with fans?" in which we all went on and on (in very negative tone) about how the devs never check in here, don't care, etc., etc.

The timing was right on the mark. The closure was hot on the heels of that thread. I just wish we knew WHO got triggered over it, specifically. We may have been able to calm them down, if we knew how sensitive they'd be, and remembered Jos was kind enough to interact in the Twitter thread.

Hold on I thought the forms for the Fans of mass effect and dragon age to talk about games and swap the favourite moment from the games and if Bioware shut down the forum for mass effect and dragon age then they should shut down The swtor forms to shut down forums for 2 games and not shut down the swtor forums as well I'm not gonna signup on Other social media outlet just talk about games I like that is what The forum are for it shouldn't matter if Bioware come on the forums to chat with the fans the forums are a way for all fans to talk and discuss things about games we all love plus the forums is one way that the fans and bioware to chat thay should not have to shut down the forum because they are not on the forum all the time

The unspoken subtext here is that these other communities are often less toxic than BioWare’s forums. I know that word—toxic—is a bit of a hot-button one, and one person’s “toxicity” is another’s legitimate gripe. I also know that the BioWare forums were instrumental in the “Retake Mass Effect” movement several years ago.

Still, I can’t blame BioWare for shuttering the forums. There are plenty of other, perfectly serviceable places for fans to chat, gripe, and organize on the internet, from Twitter to reddit and so forth. The last thing BioWare needs to deal with when Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out is managing endless, angry forum posts.
