Budget again? Moderators and community managers cost money? I worry about the company :( Interesting enough smaller companies like Beamdog or Obsidian are capable of it...

Closing the forum because THEY do not use it? That doesn't make ant sense at all and it is very unfair for those of us who do not use social media like Twitter or Facebook. This place gave me the news I wanted from their games and here I can talk with other fans about something we have in common. With who am I going to talk to now?

As far as I know forums are FOR FANS to discuss about a game (in this case) not for the company. But I guess it doesn't matter how much I complain but this isn't beneficial for Bioware.

So this boils down to "We at BioWare dont personally use the forums much anymore, and have therefore decided no one else gets to either" eh?

I mean this in the absolute nicest way possible, but are you ****** retarded, BW? I havent seen a decision that is this out of touch with the fanbase in quite a long time.

Beamdog might be a good place to go for a bit...

What a goddamned joke.  Not all of us live on the east coast or west coast and can attend those panels you tout as being venues for fan feedback.  This is hilariously stupid on Bioware's part.

-10000 respect points for Bioware.  Stay classy.  And by that I mean not at all.  Bioware just wants to resort to using sites like Reddit where the thought police are in full force.

What is sad day. I remember first finding the forums in 2009 after DA:O came out. Google kept sending me to different threads to answer all of my gaming questions. All of the users had such great advice. So I hung around and started reading some of the threads. Eventually I made an account to have better access. I started to recognize users and know whose posts would be most helpful. And after a few years, I even started posting. I've never been the most vocal poster, and my activity here has dropped substantially since off-topic closed, but the BSN was an internet home for me. I've made friends here. And maybe one or two archenemies - you know who you are. I've managed to keep up with some on other sites, but this move will just cause more fragmentation and I'm rubbish at social media so I won't be able to keep up with all the alternate sites. I don't use Facebook and I don't have a twitter account. I don't like or use reddit or tumblr. I'll miss everyone whom I only saw around these boards. And I'll miss the great gaming knowledge that these boards provide. I've tried new things and learned so much from the community. And it's not even limited to gaming. It's such a shame to destroy a reduce like this.

I'm disappointed but not surprised.

Also, the idea that people can just up and attend conventions is ludicrous. Not everybody lives in accessible areas, and regardless of location, not everybody has the funds or ability to attend. Or the desire!

Well my original reaction was "oh bummer". Then I realized that these pages and threads will be no longer accessible.

So Bioware is apparently completely okay with throwing away encyclopedia's worth of bug tracking, bug fixing, work arounds, mods, modding communities, mod help and theorycrafting?

Like, okay, sure, we CAN move on to other social media to discuss the games, but to throw away the resources?! WHY?!

This is my problem.

There are DAO and DA2 mods hosted here which are, I think, vital for the enjoyment of those games. And they exist nowhere else.

This is the best troubleshooting resource we could ask for for older games. If someone has a problem with a 9 year old game now, where can they go for help?

Even if the forums aren't active, they need to be archived and accessible.

Well, I know one thing;not everyone at Bioware's gonna be happy about this.

Got to be employees out there that care enough to be disappointed by this.

I think Jos is pissed.

I attend tons of cons but I live in Toronto and they never come here yet we have a huge gaming area at Fan Expo every year! I've only met voice actors from the games.

That does not make any sense. It can't be THAT expensive to maintain a forum servers running. You don't want to write here - fine, don't then.  But you're pretty much butchering your own on-line community! Moving away from the former BSN was hard enough, but we survived. Then there was shutting down the Character section (reopened later). Off-topic section is going to be missed,ok, but this?!!

This forum is a solid primary info hub for all the BW players, starting from BG&NWN modders and ending with ME3&DAI MultiPlayers You just can't do that to all of them. All of US, damn it!  We have no place to go. And NO, your fing twitters and FB likes are not the alternative for a full-scale forum. This way of communication had existed since before the Internet, dial-up BBS-s replaced by FTN echoes to become web-forums, which are widely used ALONG with twitter, FB or instagram, not INSTEAD of them. Forums are essential. That's if you want people to COMMUNICATE, and not passively 'follow'.

I don't know what add. It's not like they are going to change their minds because of a XXX-pages thread, right? Unless may be just this once...

I highly doubt it's a case of this being in any way a necessity for them. We're just clearly an inconvenience.

And as somebody pointed out earlier, a very probable scenario is that some accountant or executive was baffled over why they would spend a single dime on keeping a forum running when they're not getting anything in return.

I attended a convention. I met some of the devs face to face (Laidlaw, Lee, Gaider, Hanlon, etc.)

It's nothing like a forum, and frankly way less useful.

While it was cool to meet Laidlaw (he remembered me), that was a terrible place to have a substantive conversation (not to mention that I would always rather work with text rather than talking to people).

Well that's a surprise. I mean it's not like I'm really active here anymore, but I still loved browsing through certain threads from time to time. Now that won't be possible anymore soon. Sad. Many pleasent memories here. RIP

Yeah. For me, the issue isn't that conventions are BAD or shouldn't be a thing for Bioware and/or fans.

It's that they seem to be treating social media and conventions as interchangeable with forums, which is just straight up not true. Maybe Reddit, but I've always avoided it and it seems difficult to follow.

You'll forever be Sylvius to me.

When I became a father, this first place I announced it was here.

The thread was entitled "Sylvius the Dad".
