I've used some of the social platforms for years in some capacity so I'm gonna recap my opinions on them since people seem to think these forums are the Big Bad TOXIC!
Reddit
- I love reddit, but it is a mob mentality place pure and simple. If the group-think disagrees with something, it will get downvoted off the main pages. Comments get hidden past a certain number of downvotes. And if the group-think is against the company, well any possibility to use reddit for hype goes out the window. Reddit is very good at reinforcing the group-think and if that is against Bioware, they will drown and burry anyone who doesn't think Bioware is ****.
Twitter
- I'm meh about twitter, but as an avid follower of certain youtube news shows I very much know what Twitter is used for besides marketing: DOX-ing people, throwing vile threats at people, attacking a person, their family, and anyone remotely resembling the name of the person, threatening violence, racist comments, bigotry, misogyny, and last but not least taking credit for crimes: from taking credit for acts of terrorism to boasting about robberies. So pardon me if I think Twitter is plenty full of BIG BAD TOXIC!
YouTube
- Oh for heaven's sakes, have you seen the comment sections? That space has even managed to get worse as Google experiments with "improvements". Drama videos, youtubers slinging dirt at eachother, scandals... And if the YouTube community hates something? Oh they will downvote ANY mention of said thing. YouTube is filled with filth if you bother to do anything but just consume. And Bioware will dream for the toxicity of this forum if ME:A angers the mob of YouTube. Oh you think buying off IGN and other BS reviewers will get you support on YouTube? Dream on. Gamers on YouTube are too hip for BS reviewer websites and anyone with a following can start a chain reaction with one entertaining roast of your precious game.
Since I quit Facebook ages ago because it's twitter frivolity to next level and complete BS, I won't give my opinion on the toxicity of Facebook.
Instagram is something I only consume visually and pretend the comment section doesn't exist. But imagine YouTube comment section times one thousand. Spam is strong in this one.
Community forums? Wow, don't make me laugh. I have had the pleasure of playing eastern mmos that have not been ported to US and as a result have participated in community forums a lot to get anything done really. While sometimes helpful, they were filled with such vitriol that you had to wonder if some people were getting way more enjoyment talking **** about the game than playing it (or were they even playing it anymore?!?!). Bioware forums has not even a hint of the kind of vitriol spewed on community forums when a community is fed up with what they perceive as "bad choices".
