and i really think... now critique toward upcoming ME:A will be even more loud and harsh than it would be if forum would not be closed.
it will hit hard Bioware/EA...
Pretty clear that player criticism is neither a factor nor in fact welcome.
As long as they get those Day 1 sales, who cares what the players actually think of the game?

Reading the last pages I've been thinking about this whole toxicity thing. I became active in the forum some time before the launch of ME3, when I finally finished it and came here there were some posts in those first few weeks that amounted to
But after a bit most of the discussions turned arguments weren't about how Bioware or the game sucked that I remember. It may be because I live in Europe and thus timezomes played into it but most heated debates were about which ending you'd picked over another. The best example I remember, because it made me laugh was "everyone who picked destroy has a genocide fetish." Later on it was either that or the Geth vs Quarian. DA has had mostly the Mage vs Templar and the Elf debates but the point is that even the ending got us into debating the philosophical points about them, not about their quality.
Sure, there is always the occasional person who just makes an account and a thread to rant and then leaves but I've never felt like this place was toxic, just really passionate, to the point that arguments would flare, but in this forum I remember most being between ourselves not directed at Bioware.
And when I think more about it, well. You do need to moderate it (properly) so things stay civil but isn't this a positive? You presented a moral or philosophical dilema in your work and people create pages and pages and pages talking about it, even feeling so invested as to spend hours defending the decision or side they took. I've been working on a novel for some time and tbh, if it catches on I wish people get that passionate about my work.
I never stopped to think about it until this (insert all previous posts about how stupid the decisions to close BSN and erase the archive are here) happened. Is this really the toxicity they talked about? or simply that they couldn't handle criticism? Because ME3 was a great game (proved by the MP popularity) with a bad script. One would think the writers would be used to having editors of some kind telling them that what they wrote is not good enough and needs to be improved. In this case the community gave them that wake up call, and I'm sure most of us, while angry, went here to say it so future installments would be better.
Usually I'm really good at understanding ideas and concepts, but the more I think about this whole thing the more confused I am. Also sad. I've made friends with whom I talk daily on skype. Thanks to all the roleplay groups I gained confidence in my ability to act and even improvise story elements on my own, so now I've started a homebrew D&D campaign for my friends. It's the place I visited when I needed a good read on a discussion or lore analysis.

The Idea and Toxicity.
The Idea is a commodity for projects of the creative mind. How the Idea is handled, channeled, reduced, refined, realized and it's products recycled are all important to its continuation and regrowth.
Toxins are byproducts of diseased minds that have been influenced by and feed off the Idea product but don't add value or longevity to the project.
Since all minds are diseased, although to different degrees, the solution is to mitigate. It is important to identify and quarantine those afflicted minds that produce and attempt to introduce the most toxin to the Idea. Those minds that lack self awareness and conscientiousness. These are identifiable by the continual appearance of blame shifting, finger pointing, lack of empathy or understanding of the effects their byproduct has on the Idea. They also show an unwillingness to change when moderated but also won't let go of the Idea.

we must wait and see what will happen, but if they hope it will minimalize the damage well they are wrong.
closing forum will be for a log time like a big and painfull wound. Andd i am almost sure they will have less first day order than before.
but i agree, noone like harsh critique, or any critique. but trying to stop it will get things worse...

News of the Bioware forums disappearing gave me the impetus to write my first ever post here. I have not been an active participant, but I have consumed the Bioware forums consistently & happily for a long time.
I am one of those weirdos who does not have a Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram or any other social media site account. Maybe I am delaying the inevitable, but I choose not to sign up with these services for several reasons that I don't need to go into here.
Which is not to say I don't access these sites frequently for information...information I am aware of only because the Bioware forums have pointed me in the right direction (i.e. forum users have provided links that I would not otherwise know about).
I believe Bioware will still be paying attention to the community like they always have -- that is not why I am writing this. I feel the loss personally because a source of information I have counted on for years is disappearing unnecessarily. Maybe I am selfish and outmoded, but for me the system was not broken.
Just wanted to add one more voice to the dissent. Thanks.

You didn't recognize the honey badger? You're missing one of the Internet's great memes, sir. It's a completely fearless animal that picks fights with everything from cobras to lions to bee hives. Even at 30 pounds, it's been known to defeat and sometimes kill adult lions. Wanna know how? When facing larger mammals, it rips off their genitals and brawls until they bleed out. Seriously.
HAHA. I'm picturing the honey badgers in Far Cry 4 (if anyone else had the misfortune of "playing" that piece of trash). Those were literally the second most dangerous animals in that game (first would be the eagles). I remember hearing the locals yell "Honee bagger!!!!!1!11!!" and freak out, because they knew...
Hahahaha, oh man.

do not worry you are not alone here, i also do not have twitter, FB, reddit, tumblr/i have it only for a name claiming, it is empty and i do not visit there/, instagram etc.
and this forum was one of the most important places i followed just to know what is going on, now i was forced to find new places, to lurk on them and i do not like it at all. I do not like being "forced" to do things.

I think it's funny how you can get a warning point and a deleted post for not writing text while posting an image (even if that image contains text) but you can always post a video without any comment and it's fine, even if it has nothing to say on topic.
Anyway, I think this one fits perfectly into this thread:

After last night's insanity, I fully expected to wake up to a premature wasteland. Congrats to all who survived the Mod Bot uprising. For me, I believe at this point I've said all the ineffectual words I have left to say, and this garbage announcement has already consumed way too much of my time. Thanks to everyone in this thread for the shared commiseration, the wistful nostalgia and the awkward laughs over the past few days. To those who intend to stick it out to the bitter end, shine on, you crazy diamonds. And remember: you're only as toxic as you feel.

Sad to see the forums Come down I don't use other sites and I'm not a big poster as you can tell from my post count, I've been away for a few months do to RL issues and when Login to catch up on some reading, love to read other posters spend more time doing that than actually posting. If something I found passionate to post on I would, I do miss the interaction with the Bioware team used to just click on read only Bioware posts.
These forums have meant a great deal to me over the years and I'm sad to see them shutdown, I myself haven't seen anything really toxic unless you count the horrible actions on the forums with the endings in ME3 and how some of our choices ended up being nothing more than numbers on the war map. With that said I think taking down the forums before Andromeda releases is trying to play it safe so you all don't end up like ME3.
I have been and always will be a true and proud fan of Bioware but I won't be following any other forums or media choices and I doubt that Bioware will be coming to Indianapolis, IN anytime soon so this was the only place I considered home for info and story's.
<GRAND BEAR HUGS> to the entire Bioware team and the GM's on the forums it's been a good run and you all will be missed.

I remember! Also remember Gulo the unique honey badger, took so many shotgun shells to take that thing down.
Admittedly, I had more fun playing Far Cry 4 than I had playing Inquisition. Equally repetitive gameplay but better mechanics. ![]()

I had a little lightbulb go on above my head earlier, and it's becoming too bright.
You know, it might not have helped that some former employees haven't stopped talking public crap about the BSN.
It might not have helped that he was considered to be one on the "faces" of BioWare before he left.
Too bad that so many believed one bitter man. One man so bitter that he had no problem talking smack about the official forum of the company that made him money.
Talk about a self fulfillng prophecy, forum heads of BioWare. If one of the former writers believes it, surely it must be true. So thanks for letting that egoist run rampant all over the net. Plenty were just like me. Nothing but respect and were courteous to any/all dev and/or writer that stopped by. That wanted nothing more than to find a middle ground among posters. That weren't a part of the fallout of 2012, nor would have wanted anything to do with the vile hatred of the time.
Thanks for allowing former and current employees to tell the world who we are. Way to confirm that the company hates it's fans. Deleting the forums isn't about just the posters here. Even folks on reddit and other sites, folks that agree with this negative image, think that just deleting everything is a bad idea. "I hate the BSN, but I use them for guides/bug fixes, ect." I read that a lot tonight.
Also, best of luck with depending upon EA Answers to do anything without this site. Even counting the BSN purge before the format change. I've had the misfortune of dealing with the "service" twice. One was never answered, the other sent me right back here.
Thanks for nothing, Gaider. You were one of my heroes. I know you wouldn't dare soil yourself by reading this, but you still probably have friends in the company (natural, after around 20 years,.) I hope they direct you to this post, to this thread. Have the laugh on me.
If you come to my town, I won't insult you, nor harass you. I'd immediately tell you sincerely that I love your characters, and I love your stories. That being said, if I ever get the chance to meet you in person, I'd happily have you sign my DA comics and books. And then tell you that what you said makes you a reprehensible person. I wouldn't do it as "Natashina" or online, where you could dismiss me. I'd do it as myself, in person.
I'm not mad at anyone that is the messenger for this bad news. I'm not even mad at the folks that think that somehow, someway, think that erasing the forums will erase the memories. I'm more mad at people like David Gaider, that decided that ripping on the forums would be a good use of his time.
I'm going to bed. Good night guys, and I'll be around later.

Gaider used to be an amazing person. He was so dedicated to Baldur's Gate that he made a mod for the sequel on his spare time, even when his employers weren't really keen on it.
Now he's bitter and hates everyone associated with this forum. He stopped caring about fans long ago.
I can't wait for the backlash that starts once people try looking to EA Answers for bug support. It will be glorious.

I've been a big lurker, but I always enjoyed reading the forums. The two times I needed help for games, I was redirected here by EA help - and problem resolved. Even leaving them "read only" would be better than completely wiping them off the face of the internet.
