You know, for a forum that's as notorious as this one is, I've seen a lot of virtual hugs lately.
Also, the members of this community amaze me. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of people decided to backing up every thing they can. They have also been offering to back up post history for members, so some of us don't lose some of our best writing (cough.)
Its because, you know...they actually care about the games they play. Those stories, more than the gameplay or any of that stuff, have united this community. I cannot stress enough how bad the forum deletion is going to hurt BioWare's reputation. Already there are comparisons to other companies that had the same behavior as BioWare after EA acquired them. For the first time in 18 years, I'm genuinely worried about the fate of the company.
So, please, at least thank the dedicated men and women for backing this stuff up for you. They are the ones making sure that your fans have the resources they need to make for a better game play. I don't give a rat's you-know-what if the rest of the net likes this place or not. Since I partially blame employees past and present for reinforcing this image, I ignore the hate. Thank those people for making sure those wikis that the company suggested are still active.
You don't have to like us. However, whether you care to or not, you need us.
Good thing us horrible, vile, despicable posters care enough about your product that make sure that your games are playable for everyone. No matter if someone likes the BSN or not, no matter if someone thinks we're the same group that put up with death threats and other things towards devs, you're hurting the community.
Even if the company restarts the forums (which I put at a 50/50 in 12 months,) don't be surprised if many of us don't/won't come back. Yes, there is always new people, but they wouldn't have spent the years, years of work and love that several members of this community have done.
I am not begging, but I'm stating this as a fan. Do not do this. I joined this site originally because I was looking for a good mod for companions in NWN 2. I even helped give them feedback. The mod broke and I spent a 1/2 hour troubleshooting and experimenting to see what had gone wrong. I was able to happily contribute to the community by letting them know what happened.
Think about what you're throwing away. This isn't just about the loud minority of us on the forums. Close the forums. Some think you should have done so sooner. Others, like me, can at least understand why you're doing it.
Please, archive this data. It's not about peons like me, or anyone else. It isn't about one group of people. It's about BioWare fans all over the net.
Really good post but I could also see, if they make some new forums people coming back to say that they don't get to get away with deleting years of posting just to make a new probably called "non-toxic" forum and just let people know where the original community is (say, uBSN, fextralife...)
It could maybe be begrudginly accepted if they weren't going to erase all these years of posting.
