Yeap, time to do some reminiscing, I remember back in the good old days people were united in solidarity and camaraderie. Most people assigned themselves to a particular faction and go from there, helping each other out, give other factions no quarter - they more or less adopted behaviour exhibited by football fans.

 

I think someone once said that Mass Effect is a religion, he/she is not wrong about that. At the time people were passionate about the ME3 ending choice they made and sometimes arguments got out of hand and were reduced to cat-calling and blatant insults... now as I contemplate it I realised that these heated debates are the very manifestation of choice - the choice we consciously made with our unique justifications, which the games encouraged us to make.

 

It seems to me that we felt the need to justify our in-game actions here in the forums precisely because we could not do the same in-game, we felt the need to be understood by others, and that is one of the most important things (if not the most important) for a sentient being

On my one playthrough I let Moradin cure the genophage.  I got teary eyed it was such a beautiful moment.  I watched my friend betray him and at the end all I could do was gape at her and say, 'How could you?'

 

It really is a shame about the endings because there were some truly, truly fantastic moments in the game.

But it is still disgusting that BW forces that work upon you, because it wasn't needed at all. Deleting the forums only serves one purpose: Purge it from history in order to silence the critics. Bah.

Most of the time I think "slap in the face" is one of those meaningless buzz phrases like "toxic" is, but this is one of the few cases I think it's completely appropriate.
