This sucks big time. I haven't been here all that long, but I'll miss everyone. Whether we agreed with each other or not, it's always fun talking to you all.

The people here are mostly great. BSN felt like a big, happily dysfunctional family to me.

This decision will be something of a stain on my Bioware for me. BSN is the only game forum I frequent...

This is a case of BioWare cutting off their nose to spite their face. They think the BSN is toxic, so instead of trying to fix them, they're going to nuke the whole thing. Further damaging their relationship with the fans, which was already in tatters.

Last night Steelcan said to me "One day BSN will cease to entertain me, but this is not that day" so I'm gonna have to assume BW took that as a personal challenge and is closing the forums entirely because of him. Damn you, steel!

BioWare's older games weren't all published by EA.

 

Good point. I'll back up threads from the EA related titles at least and maybe I'll post links to other guides within the backup docs.

I think I have never seen such a horrible decision by a company before. It feels like they don't care about the fans. This will have serious consequences for them since a lot of people will miss new announcements and will stop buying their products. It is sad to see the big mistake their making.

This is disappointing - But I'm confused that this is supposed to be something where developers can engage.  That's not the purpose of a forum.  

 

I made friends on this place.  While it was really nice when a writer/developer came on to talk to us, I really used it to engage in discussion the games. And that's what was important.  Tumblr/Twitter are not places you could have discussion. It's just not.  It has never been conducive to that.

This site has been a terrific source of information and inspiration. It is a real tribute and testament to the many, many  fabulous fans of Bioware games. I check the site every day. I am often amazed at the creativity,  intelligence,  and knowledge of the posters - not only of dragon age lore, but of history, religion, and politics. It is part of the reason I buy bioware games - I know I can get such great insight, conversation and discussion here.
 

If this is a financial consideration, I understand and would gladly pay a membership fee or volunteer to help administer the boards.

You know whats funny? On all these sites we're supposed to use instead of the BSN, people are saying that its a mistake and the forum should remain.

 

When those other sites are telling you to keep the forum up, maaaan.

Also, the idea that people can just up and attend conventions is ludicrous. Not everybody lives in accessible areas, and regardless of location, not everybody has the funds or ability to attend. Or the desire!
