But be warned, for I will return. And when I return, everybody will be reminded of this legendary ruse. SONGS WILL BE WRITTEN ABOUT AND SUNG ON THIS DAY, THIS DAY OF THIS MASTERFUL RUSE, AND I HOLD NO REMORSE OR REGRET FOR I AM AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOD OF THE RUSE.

oh my.

Then I sank into the depths, and I heard the King in Yellow whispering to my soul: "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God!"

I can't speak for 4-5 years ago, but I've found this is an overall pretty good forum. I'm a former WoW player and I used to hang out in the Story/Lore section. Battle.net is and has been the worst forum I've ever been in. I remember way back in the day, back in 2004, my then-boyfriend showed me the forums for battle.net. I was aghast, and it was much the same before I left in 2013. Shoot, one of the threads was in the Story section was "What's your favorite adult star?" Despite folks reporting the thread, it went to it's max lifespan (which was 25 pages.)

The devs that work for Blizzard are likely fully aware of how bad their forums can be. You know what they don't do? They don't engage in the forums and then turn around to say how terrible it is. It's not to say that Blizzard hasn't made it's own missteps in the past, such as the Corpsegrinder gnome/blood elf rant being shown at Blizzcon. However, as much as Blizzard has frustrated me in the past, they do show that they at least respect the fans enough to not slam on them. They just leave the forums to the blue mods (official Blizzard employees) and...wait for this...the green mods, which are players with a good track record on the forums.

We aren't the same group sending death threats. Many of the forum users were there, and I read old BSN posts where plenty of people were telling others to knock it off with the threats and insults. I guess that part got ignored in favor of focusing on the negative. Charming.

So there's that too. One company that's even older than BioWare doesn't feel the need to talk crap about their forums. One that's probably had as much if not more harassment as BioWare. Like I mentioned before, this is a self-fullfilling prophecy to an extent. Over the years I've sadly seen several BioWare employees continuously talk about how terrible and awful this place is. Never mind the fact that they still somehow think that it's the same community as it was 4 years ago.

I remember when a certain poster wouldn't quit harassing Gaider over Cassandra's looks. He sent Gaider constant tweets and PMs here. He did that a lot, since the poster was allowed to run around for 6 months. That's sad, but it's also funny in a messed up sort of way. Gaider, who no longer works for the company, who choose to come to the forums of his own free will, has decided to crow with pleasure on twitter. It's like he went, "See, see! I told you the site was disgusting and awful. Look at what this poster did to me!"

It's been nearly a week since I found out. It still hurts and I'm actually angry at the company. Squareenix disappointed me to the point where I'm "meh" about their games. Blizzard frustrated me with actions like Diablo 3 needing an internet connection and the unholy mess that was Cataclysm. BioWare is the only game company that I've loved that has got me angry. I've never felt like such a throw-away fan like I do here.

All right everyone. We made it to pg 222.

Let's not screw it up this time.

Of course, we wouldn't have to worry about it in the first place if BSN wasn't closing down.

...This is starting to sound passive-aggressive, isn't?

I don't get it either. But then I read the Glassdoor reviews and it started to make more sense.

One thing I forgot. Blizzard uses Twitter and all that jazz, but aren't shutting down their forums because they didn't want it any more to do with it. Oh and they will copy and paste the information they share on the forums, something I haven't seen BW do for about a year now.

BW giveaway? You'd only know if you read Twitter. Live stream chat? Twitter and Facebook. Doing Ask Me Anything on reddit? Hope you're got an account there or on Twitter. You'd never hear about it here.

Well, one could argue that you have to worry even less about it because of the BSN's closure.  I mean, whether we stay here or get deleted all the way back to Page 1, in a couple months it's still gonna be like the entire BSN user base sneezed in Stalin's presence: gone without a trace.

One of the suggestions I made that I wanted passed on to Bio-command was having a Twitter feed on the forum so that you could see the tweets come in as they were made, as well as sharing information posted here there and the other way around.

Buuuuuuut that didn't go anywhere so what can you do.

I been here since the beginning I am going to miss everyone no more joking around with people or doing things like they did with bioware released me3 contests and had people getting the game thru space launching the game and had fans track it. I will miss this place at lease there the unofficial bsn boards...

I had a similar idea that I tossed out there. Nice to see we've been yelling into the wind all this time. Good to see that they care oh-so-much. Bleh.

I'm beyond passive-aggressive, but I'm not going to waste my time harassing devs or the like. I'll speak my piece here and then tell everyone I meet to avoid buying BioWare games brand new. Letting them know that the company insisted things were so bad among their fans that they shut down and deleted their forums. My dad got me into BioWare games intitally. My mom played them too, before chronic vertigo prevented her from playing more modern games. Even she was shocked that the forums were going to be closed and deleted.

That's what makes me feel so much like a throwaway fan. It isn't the closure. Things happen. It's them deciding to purge it all rather than leave it up. Besides, most people that google for bug fixes and such aren't going to be looking at the constant romance threads and general discussion. So the company is screwing them over too.

It's about the fans, huh? Which fans? The ones that built your wikis...oh wait, they use the BSN for many links and verifications. Including writer and dev comments.

The ones that have used this site for bug fixes...oh wait, they'll have to scour the internet rather than going into one singular site. With the potential risk of viruses and such because some people are jerks.

All I see it's about the fans, if you are on social media and watch Twitter go by. I am not shooting the game devs that have worked hard to give me those stories over the years. But the devs that did agree to deletion? Why?

I know some of those people that made this call are likely devs as well as "the suits." I hope they are reading this. You guys don't know how badly this is going to backfire in the long run. I'm very upset at the devs that came by to read and participated here that decided to encourage the deletion.

If they were just closing the forums, I'd suck up and quietly deal. I'm not going to quietly deal with a deletion of good resources. I'm not going to quietly deal with the fact that these awful awful posters are saving the information so BioWare continues to do well. Screw that. I'm almost 37 years old and I'm too old to be treated like this.

Wow, the forum has really slowed down after the warning point/banning spree. It's actually quite sad to see so many users now too disheartened to even enjoy their last few weeks here. What a depressing closure to the BSN.

I suppose I'll probably get a warning point for this observation as well.

Well it doesn't help if people post with the intention of getting warning points/suspensions/bans. Thats probably why whole pages worth of posts were removed and people are disheartened.

But hey, its disheartening anyway. I mentioned before that when I hit 50K posts(which by the way you can see said post and what it was in response to here)-

wYeS8SS.png

GAd0ZqM.png

I then spent quite a bit of time going around to multiple Bioware employees and giving them my thanks for their contributions to the forums and community for keeping us together and giving me the opportunity to post 50 thousand times on their boards. I went to former and current employees about it, it was great. After a while i had to ask if one could spread the message to the whole company as there was no way I'd get to everyone myself.

Its weird, thinking about that now. Told by David Hulegaard rather excitedly to make it to 100K(he's cool by the way, always been awesome).

Realizing I can't do that now.

I haven't played much WoW (I only played to level a character to 20 and unlock Lady Liadrin in Hearthstone), but I've heard it said that once you go troll, you never reroll. The character I played as was a troll rogue, and based on that brief experience, I can very easily see why.

And so that this post isn't completely off-topic, I'll say: Cyonan's board hit 700 members today! Join us! We're gonna Make BSN Great Again!

Oh man, you aren't kidding.  There are some seriously terrible people on the WoW forums.  I remember when the Real ID thing blew up in their faces, and Blizzard employees were posting their real names to show that it wasn't such a terrible thing.  People went online, found out all kinds of info about them, posting shots of their house, calling them on the phone, all kinds of terrible things.

And some of the elitist attitudes over there...good grief.  Ask a simple question and your lucky if all your called at times was a scrub or a noob.

Oh my gods, I had blocked the Real ID fiasco from my mind. When I said Blizzard had gotten it worse than BioWare, that's the things I'm talking about.

Quick explanation for those that are lost: The WoW devs decided it was time to start trimming down servers. Numbers were low and there were a lot of "dead" servers. Rather than shutting them down, they started to merge them. In their infinite wisdom, they decided to create a friends list based upon a person's Blizzard account. They figured it was a good way to people to stay in touch that were on different servers. The idea is really cool; you can talk to your friend killing demons in WoW while you're killing evil angels in Diablo.

The problem was that it displayed a user's real name if you were on someone's Real ID list. Blizzard devs tried to show that this wasn't a big deal by posting their real names on the forums. They didn't realize they had set themselves up to be doxxed and stalked. That isn't even mentioning the name calling, the rape/death/torture threats and the general hatred towards the devs. I swear that the heads of Blizzard couldn't backpeddle fast enough. IIRC, that particular bad idea was revised in about a month.

Even after all of that, they don't slam on the fans that post on their forums. That's where the devs got the worst of it, and yet they still don't insult their entire forums publicly every time their fanbase is brought up. Blizzard has been around since 1991. 25 years and they've never pulled a stunt like the one BioWare has. Grrrr....

If we are going down memory lane...

Remember ME2? Lots of people wanted more attention to female Shepard, for various reasons, which are now taken for granted. I don't claim that I've invented the term FemShep, but I sure made it popular. I was one of the first (maybe even the first, not sure) who created FemShep signature pictures. In no time these sigpics were everywhere on the forum and FemShep got her recognition in the end.

I made 128 different ones. Here's an example:

FemShep641.jpg

If you want to see them all then have a look here.

No worries, no scary site behind it, no adds, no buttons, not even a page counter, not selling anything there. It's not even a fan site. Just a page with sigpics. You have to be careful with the digital engagement services these days, which I discovered after posting a link to another BSN thread.

First I used TinyPics to host them. Later they were on my private site (the page mentioned above).

It first started with a few, then people started to make requests. That sure kept me busy for a while.

And it was fun to do. Those were great times on BSN. :)
