Well I once saw a cat video of a cat barking like a dog while staring out a window, then turning around and noticing that someone is watching it shifts to meows.  Could maybe tie that in to Bioware pretending to be something that they're not.  You know all that nonsense about caring about the fans and what not.

Wait, we're trying to help our image.  Never mind.

You mean this one?

I doubt there is anything we could do to either help or denigrate our image in Bioware/EA's eyes at this point. But that shouldn't stop people trying...

It's becoming rather odd to me that the mods are responding to reports faster than they have for nearly a year now. They are being instructed to still ban people. Unless they are posting adult material or cursing like a sailor, I don't see the point. It's all going to be erased anyways. I just keep posting the way I do because I won't let my anger at a bunch of people I don't know compromise who I am.

My only hope is that they'll leave it up after the shutdown to reevaluate their current decision. Maybe have some devs willing to take another look at some of the big picture. <shrug>

I do know I'm going to miss this site. The good, the bad, the ugly and the insane. I got see posters put up pics when their baby girl was born. Myself and other posters helped someone get through a bout of serious depression. Giving a young man the strength to finally come out to his parents. Posters here helped me when my dog passed away earlier this year. I got to watch a fan thread I created take off, even after I backed out of it. I was the OP of the Sera fan thread that started back in 2014. I turned out to not be a huge fan of the character, but I loved seeing that thrive for years. Sheryl Chee being moved by my story about my husband knowing Matthew Shepard and saying that it made her tear up.

If they were simply closing the forums, I would still be hurt and confused. I'd still be upset. This place shouldn't be razed to the ground. I'd miss everybody, even the people I clashed with the most. I don't think I would be as straight up angry about it though.

<snicker> No doubt.

Also, conventions aren't cheap. Even if you don't have to travel far, the tickets themselves are expensive. The meet and greet lines can get insanely long and panels for things like BioWare games tend to get packed.

So if you have the time; the disposable income; and live with in the right continent, then you might get lucky and pop off a question that takes more than 140 characters for an answer. Alrighty then.

Yep.  a few years back I went to GenCon, a trip that was "only" a few hundred miles.  Fun time, but still ran to several hundred dollars, Tickets, gas, hotel, food, etc.  Even splitting expenses with friends.

And I got to attend a Patrick Rothfusss reading.  Dang was that line long!  I only got in because I registered months in advance.

Here's a bit of a humor. The devs were instructed to direct posters to use Instagram as one of the ways of providing feedback. It's usually just pictures and a brief caption. Instead of having one place for the madness to go, it's going to spread. I can think of the type of angry gamers that would put up a picture that was insulting to the devs with a more insulting caption. Some people aren't born with enough middle fingers and would happily flood sites like Instagram to express their displeasure.

What a mess. I do know if they rebrand and start a ME:A forum, I won't be going there.

Edit: I woke up about 4 hours ago. We've lost 5 pages since then. Either the mods are cracking down or someone is bored and reporting anything remotely Off-Topic. Or both.

The Sword of Truth cuts deep and true. I regret nothing.

I could be mistaken, but don't you also do Livestreams?

Personally? No, but I imagine they do it for comic con in general. I'm just definitely not gonna be one of the dudes droning on at the microphone, though. That mode of communication is way too tedious for everyone involved, and I don't think I'd get anything resembling a sincere answer.

Ah, gotcha. I do agree with that. I'm hoping that one of the folks that are good with Livestream would be willing to record the next BW con appearance and ask that question. I don't want to humilate anyone that might be speaking at that con, but I do feel as a consumer I deserve some kind of answer to this. I'm not trying to demand them to change their minds. Giving polite and empassionated pleas are one thing, but I don't expect a darned thing to change here.

I do want an answer though. They gave the briefest mention of the deletion, with no excuse for it, while trying to sell social media to the forums. The folks that use Twitter, ect ect, are already there. There are a lot of us that either don't care for it, barely use it or won't use it. It's their money, their call. But since myself and others have done a lot to make sure their games are playable by all, I think it's fair to ask for an answer to their face. I don't want anyone to be rude or mean or cruel to the devs. That isn't fair and I sure wouldn't want to deal with that. I do hope someone can be politely honest and ask them why the deletion. They'll give the same excuses they did if the closure is brought up.

This has already been a very shoddy year for me personally and financially. Talk about the rotten icing on top of a cowpie.

Thanks that made me laugh out loud...

I just like how much contempt BioWare as an entity seems to have for it's community. Individual devs are fine. But the company doesn't actively curate the subreddits, it's destroying the BSN, it doesn't curate official Facebook groups, it doesn't curate an official Tumblr even.

What does the community team even do? Lurk Twitter and browse cosplay all day?

Actually, are there any job openings?

If they simply closed the forums, that would be one thing. I knew that this had a chance of happening the second I clicked Accept on the TOS. Posting here wasn't a right after all, so that's part of the deal. However, I cannot understand years of good information, that has nothing much to do with the social aspect, being deleted. I don't understand the point of that at all. While the debate can certainly be made about the harassment some devs/writers have received, the forums simply being closed would help with that. Complete and total erasure is going too far.

Again, this is a weird way to frame the issue. It's not like Bio's going out of their way to destroy the boards. They're just not going to keep paying for them after October.

This thread has become so pathetic....this place always was though, at least now it's more tangible.

By the way about the obscure bad music, constantly fragile person? Yes I, for whatever reason, was surrounded by such people and often still run into such people.

Such people are evil when they coerce others into liking the things that they like, or just generally coercion, whether this is by I don't know, sexual assault or any variety of thing such people are often prone to, but overall yeah, that's bad.

Yeah er I'm just going to go ahead and say they're villains, sorry I can't find anything redeeming to say  :pinched:

Anyway as a Bio fan I'm positively amazed at how different the Bio community feels, because for the first time ever people are just interacting without fear of all these threats and coercion everywhere, it's like this world that I didn't know existed is finally coming forth, and one of the key elements was this place closing down.

I thought it was bad, but I guess not, it's positively amazing, maybe this was the right decision after all.... chaotic, but, for the best.

That's great and all, but really, how long are you gonna keep gloating about this just cuz literally no one here agreed with any of your opinions?

Whose lack of agreement apparently is akin to sexual assault.

Again, this is a weird way to frame the issue. It's not like Bio's going out of their way to destroy the boards. They're just not going to keep paying for them after October.

First, I want to take the time to thank you for the conversations over the years. You're very smart and you always make me to stop and think about my opinons. Hopefully I'll run into you around the net in the future. :)

As far I'm concerned, they are going out of their way to destroy the forums by not keeping them up at all. I refuse to believe that EA/BioWare lack the funds to keep the place read only. There are also articles from current and former devs that said that some of the higher-ups at BioWare wanted to shut this place down years ago. So I don't think that's an unusual way of looking at things. I think they want it gone and if sites like forbes are anything to go by, they want it all deleted too. This place makes them look bad. Nevermind the lack of moderation that happened over the last six months that made things worse.

They could save this site or at least the information on it. Closing the forums down and leaving the unaccessable to the general public as read-only seems a bit spiteful. I can't see the point to yanking the plug completely. I just can't. The social aspect I'll get over (the new BSN is really good,) but the information and things like dev/writer confirmations are in danger of being lost forever.

Once the forums are gone, I won't start writing to random BW devs. I would ask about the reason for the deletion if I go to DCC*, but I wouldn't harass them. I would go on FB to tell my friends to avoid buying BW games new, but I'm not going to out to the world and spam my anger over and over again. I'll move on, but with some lingering bitterness towards the company.

Considering my statement of fact was deleted (I'm not saying by who because that would make it a discussion! lol) it's likely this one will disappear too. Sorry to see a good post go.

I still don't understand. There is no way for me to believe the official line, it doesn't make sense. Have there been inappropriate posts, angry posts, troll posts, even vile posts? Yes. The answer to these issues is proper moderation. They could do this going forward, if they wanted to. They could lock down the forums, for a while, clean up anything that still needs to be cleaned up. Then reopen the forums with an announcement of the policies and practices going forward. They could even try to streamline the forums (hair is important to me but I will concede we don't need 100 threads per game, :)). They don't want to. That's the sad truth; they don't want to bother. I don't like it but I concede it is their right, darn it.

However, the deletion is another issue entirely. It's ridiculous. So much information is in these forums that allow their customers to better play their games. Umm, hello? Is there anybody out there in Bioware world who sees a slight problem here? Sure some of the information is 'if I want to get this, what do I have to do?' but there's a lot of 'I can't get x to work right. I need help.' "Lo, the light shone on them when a fellow forumite replied to their anxious cries and led them out of the darkness that is unplayability."

Yo, Bioware, you going to build up a library of technical and gameplay help, already found in these forums, so that new customers can play older titles? I received one Mass Effect game. I haven't played it because I needed to get through my hundred playthroughs or so of Dragon Age. However, based on these forums, I purchased the others. Only one through Origin, but I have them. I still plan to play them. That's two games I never would have bought if not for these forums. If you don't bother keeping these forums open, even as read-only, or comb through them for every useful nugget of technical and gameplay help and copy to your help library, you are going to frustrate many potential customers. Why should they bother to purchase your games if you can't be bothered to provide them the information to make them playable?

That's enough for now. For the record, I enjoyed reading a lot of the threads on lore discussion and speculation. Thanks, guys.
