I'm just looking forward to the final battle at the end of days, when, as Kefka tells it, the Nerds and the Geeks will stand united as one against the Hipsters who are an affront to all that is good.

I assume it'll be like the Warriors, except with dumber outfits. And stupid, because The Warriors is awesome.

But which side with the "nerds who were here first" be on though? Are they hipsters that liked things before they were popular? Or are they nerds that like things regardless of popularity? Will the identity crises tear them apart from the inside and make them question the very foundation of their society and the endless War that has shaped their very existence but which ultimately leaves them feeling like a hollow outsider only pretending to be a true part of the Nerd-Geek alliance? Or will they turn to the dark side and begin passing information to the Hipster rebellion in an attempt to bring down the complacent, uncaring Consolidation of Franchises that gave up on originality and fan-creator relationships in favor of padding their fat cat wallets at the cost of the very fabric of what makes nerd-geek society something worth saving?

Tune in August 26th to find out!

:P

And what of the Hardcore Gamers, those noble free thinkers engaging in good faith all across these internets? With whom do they hang their stylish trilbies? They're the true wild cards.

Oh god, I think I just broke my own brain. You helped, though.

Even the "lackluster" Bioware titles have proven their attention on characters and character interaction appeals to me.  Until they fail in that respect, they have my pre order for pretty much any title they release.  And where you found flaws in Inquisition, I did not.  It is one of the greatest games ever made in my opinion.

I have talked to enough people who have really liked Inquisition, and yet still recognize that it has it's share of flaws, to find that statement questionable.  TW3 is one of the greatest games ever in my opinion, but I am not going to sit here and say that it doesn't have it's flaws.

Time to bring out the big guns B)

This thread has become so pathetic....this place always was though, at least now it's more tangible.

By the way about the obscure bad music, constantly fragile person? Yes I, for whatever reason, was surrounded by such people and often still run into such people.

Such people are evil when they coerce others into liking the things that they like, or just generally coercion, whether this is by I don't know, sexual assault or any variety of thing such people are often prone to, but overall yeah, that's bad.

Yeah er I'm just going to go ahead and say they're villains, sorry I can't find anything redeeming to say  :pinched:

Anyway as a Bio fan I'm positively amazed at how different the Bio community feels, because for the first time ever people are just interacting without fear of all these threats and coercion everywhere, it's like this world that I didn't know existed is finally coming forth, and one of the key elements was this place closing down.

I thought it was bad, but I guess not, it's positively amazing, maybe this was the right decision after all.... chaotic, but, for the best.

Do I see a love affair born out the BW forums? Great for PR and another reason not to shut this place down

Well, I met my girlfriend because of these forums, actually   So yeah, don't close us, Bioware!

This has already been a very shoddy year for me personally and financially. Talk about the rotten icing on top of a cowpie.

That was my internal reaction when I heard this news, too, more or less. I mean, I've definitely had some good times this year, just not as many as before and more not-so-good thing are happening. This just adds to it

I doubt there is anything we could do to either help or denigrate our image in Bioware/EA's eyes at this point. But that shouldn't stop people trying...

I'm an old school Marilyn Manson fan, back when I was 18. I liked his first four albums, then bailed after Holywood came out. Too manic depressive for me. :P. One of his songs has the line, "I wasn't born with enough middle fingers."

Don't care for his music, but I respect the guy himself.  Heard an interview he did once, after he canceled a concert in or around Columbine not to long after the shootings there, when the people of the town made a stink about it.  He was asked what he would say to the two kids responsible, and he replied, nothing, I would listen to them, because no one else did.  I liked that he said that.

It is now impossible for me to write about the forum close down, its purge, and the companies behind it and handling the controversy, because I am no longer allowed to.

I'm going to experiment and see what happens, when I make a slight change to the text that has been removed.

Note that the text below is an early draft, so the original version may have been somewhat different.

Here it goes:

-----

In my opinion the list below contains some known facts about the forums, the close down and its deletion.
- The message was given to us on a blog and the forum itself.
- There was no e-mail sent to inform the users about the forum close down and its purge.
- A lot of people do not frequent the forum in between releases.
- A lot of people are on holiday in the summer.
- Because of the above, a lot of people learn about the close down after the fact.
- There is no other BW news in this period, other than this, so any fall out fades away before news later this year.
- After facing a lot of negative opinions after DA2 and ME3 BW wanted the forums to be closed (according to an inside source).
- To discourage people from visiting the forums the off-topic section was closed.
- The community manager has changed several times, the current one is unknown to most, and does not seem interested in this community.
- The forums are a great way to convey opinions about complex games and to discuss them.
- The forums are a great way for BW to collect those opinions, or at least we were told so in the past.
- A lot users of the forums help new users to fix in-game and technical problems or provide workarounds for non-fixable problems.
- EA's support values the resources provided by the forums and often send users there to seek further help.
- The forums provide information to several wiki's, game modifications, cosplayers, fanartists, etc., and many hyperlinks can be traced back to this forum.
- Over the years many friendships and even some marriages started here.
- BW directs fans to social media which are unlikely to provide the majority of the advantages of the forums.
- BW was unable to handle moderation on its own and therefor hired professional digital engagement service operators.

The list is probably not complete and maybe some do not see some of the above as facts. However, you cannot blame the users of these forums to be confused and agitated about BW's decision and its way of presenting it. What it does show, is that BW is in no way committed to its forum community. The close down and the deletion of its content is proof of that. It not only wants the forums to be closed, it wants their existence to be purged from history.

Any company having such a dedicated forum community would have been proud of it and would have done everything in its power to keep it and make it a pleasant experience. The reasons for doing so are simple to grasp. Fans that are happy with the company, attract new fans. Fans that are unhappy, will advice others against the purchase of the company's products. Nothing indicates that BW was willing or even considering constructive solutions to prevent the close down of the forums.

EA has the advantage that the media is on their side because defending the BW forums is not in the interests of the media. If the media write anything that is not in favor of EA or its BW label then EA may not give them their next scoop, or they may be removed from the EA list to get early review game copies, or EA may decide not to advertise there. So, obviously it is in the media's best interest to defend EA and the closing of the forums. Toxicity is enough click bait for this "news".

Do I want to prevent the close down of these forums? And then what? Even if I could, am I supposed to trust BW again? Currently, that doesn't seem very likely after their attempts to muzzle the forum community.

AngryFrozenWater, every time I scroll by the picture I relive that one creepy episode of the Outer Limits about the mannequins that killed people.

That being said, you make some good points. Too bad it'll probably be deleted again.

Yah, I couldn't agree more.

Like, everybody here is super duper sheeple, all these caustic left wing hipsters with their, like, super duper depraved inclinations of sexual assault. If it wasn't like prominent or whatever, I'd say they were closeted caustic asexuals.

I feel like, for the first time, something positive is kind of happening with the BSN closing down. All of those super duper left wing hipster people can like, hang out on Reddit while us right wing, true individual hardcore gamer nerds can like, hang somewhere else.

Yah.

It's becoming rather odd to me that the mods are responding to reports faster than they have for nearly a year now. They are being instructed to still ban people. Unless they are posting adult material or cursing like a sailor, I don't see the point. It's all going to be erased anyways. I just keep posting the way I do because I won't let my anger at a bunch of people I don't know compromise who I am.

My only hope is that they'll leave it up after the shutdown to reevaluate their current decision. Maybe have some devs willing to take another look at some of the big picture. <shrug>

I do know I'm going to miss this site. The good, the bad, the ugly and the insane. I got see posters put up pics when their baby girl was born. Myself and other posters helped someone get through a bout of serious depression. Giving a young man the strength to finally come out to his parents. Posters here helped me when my dog passed away earlier this year. I got to watch a fan thread I created take off, even after I backed out of it. I was the OP of the Sera fan thread that started back in 2014. I turned out to not be a huge fan of the character, but I loved seeing that thrive for years. Sheryl Chee being moved by my story about my husband knowing Matthew Shepard and saying that it made her tear up.

If they were simply closing the forums, I would still be hurt and confused. I'd still be upset. This place shouldn't be razed to the ground. I'd miss everybody, even the people I clashed with the most. I don't think I would be as straight up angry about it though.

Well said, it looks like you care about the closure of forums just as much as the deletion of them :)

I just like how much contempt BioWare as an entity seems to have for it's community. Individual devs are fine. But the company doesn't actively curate the subreddits, it's destroying the BSN, it doesn't curate official Facebook groups, it doesn't curate an official Tumblr even.

What does the community team even do? Lurk Twitter and browse cosplay all day?

Actually, are there any job openings?

Sooner or later they will realise whatever they sought after so hard are in fact superficial and missed out on things that are more important: criticisms from fans which cannot be bought with money

They could save this site or at least the information on it. Closing the forums down and leaving the unaccessable to the general public as read-only seems a bit spiteful. I can't see the point to yanking the plug completely. I just can't. The social aspect I'll get over (the new BSN is really good,) but the information and things like dev/writer confirmations are in danger of being lost forever.

I would also suggest some degrees of leeway must be allowed in order to maintain and update information, a complete read-only state is not advisable... but maybe I am just being wishful

It is hard to imagine the extent of potential loss with regards to fan creations because these things will stop growing as soon as this place closes down, some stuff may survive in unofficial forums but I am not optimistic at how things are going at present
