I'm going to make them give back our past!"
I am utterly and completely unsurprised by this outcome. The bsn holds a wealth of knowledge that many here have already stated, as well as a home to a bright set of people having made it their passion, their hobby, playing BioWare products. A form to a company is without doubt a great asset in fostering a community to last a lifetime, a place for many to cherish insight, discussion, debate, and enlightenment on many topics. To see it wiped away is disheartening for me and as i surely know, without question many others. But having all that said, i'll reiterate, this is not unexpected in the slightest.. Let me give one reason. Look at Inon Zur, the original composer of the dragon age series, having composed for said games Origins and 2. Where is he now? Why was he replaced? But more importantly, what did he do? He did not compose the third installment of the DA series, and there is a reason why. When asked and interviewed back during dragon age 2's release, Inon Zur stated his opinion on said game as being (rushed). That remark without question undoubtedly severed an end of all collaboration amongst himself and Electronic Arts. Merely having stated his honest opinion which for them served only to help cast more negativity around an already polarized product. For that it is a fact of most certainty Ea will never hire him again. They have crossed him off that list,..squashed that bridge. The same practice will hold true for any and all game journalist, youtuber, streamer, or blogger. If there is so much as a whiff of criticism or a strong negative review of an ea product, they will most surely be revoked review copies, as well as backing and ad revenue. (blacklisted) And now here we are with this community's consumer forms. The negativity and backlash displayed during said time had an influence of unpopular broader public opinion. It made headlines. It costed their company's image, perhaps even money. That is the bottom line, and servers as the very reason they wish to eliminate it now. Andromeda is closing in and senior staff do not wish for a repeat. That is purely and unequivocally factual. As a patron here on this public form or not, if you confess loudly discouragement, critical critique, disheartenment of any kind or sort on their products, their wrath stands. None at that company desire it reaching a wider set of ears. That is what happened to the talented Mr. Zur. That is what happens to unconformitive press. And that is what is happening to it's own longstanding community. You are indiscreetly being dealt with. It may have been a long time coming, but in the end, a disgruntled suite had their baseline demand fulfilled.
Less than 20 days to go and this is still my thoughts on it:

this. Accurate to translate both our pain and rage.
Gurl I'm gonna miss you and your extensive rolodex of your inquisitor's reactions and expressions
I agree BansheeOwnage...you do a great job of getting the reactions timed just right and your Inquisitor is so familiar to me that she seems canon. But I know you are at the other site already too so we'll get to keep seeing you/her. ![]()
You guys keep posting so fast my updates and reminders get lost.

Based on Inquisition alone I would pre order now, but I'm waiting for the collector's edition. People really seem to overplay the "track record" talk... I have found few people that are that disappointed with Bioware for such talk to be construed as a community consensus within the Bioware fandom.
That seems pretty silly considering ME:A is being made by a different studio...
Well there goes the neighborhood.
Well thanks

Sadly I don't really see myself joining any of the new fan forums (though they do look great and the creators have done an awesome job). I want to see the BSN through to the end but after that I'll probably be done with BioWare. Their last few games have had juuust enough of the things I like to keep stringing me along thinking "maybe the next one will be more like ___" and buying each new installment but I can't keep doing that to myself. I think Trespasser was a make it or break it moment for DA for me (and well, you know my thoughts on that) and the thought of playing a new protagonist after that "broke" it just as ME3 "broke" Mass Effect for me. I've become way too gloomy and bitter and would pretty much be a detriment to any new BioWare related community I joined. If MEA ends up being amazing and having all the things I like and miss and word gets back to me about it somehow(the BSN was my only place for BW news) then I will play it and I will seek you guys out on those new forums but I just don't see it happening. I'm not the target demographic of BioWare's new games and will probably just fade into the digital ether.
I'm sorry to hear that, even though I suspected
I'm not quite where you are yet, but getting there, unfortunately. I need to see more of their next games. I want to know how large a role the Inquisitor will have in DA4. And yes, ha, I do know your thoughts on that. I enjoyed reading them all
I want ME:A to be out so I can see what fans think of it before deciding whether to get it (on sale). Mass Effect was my favourite series, my favourite universe, but I'm still burnt out from ME3 and perhaps as importantly, how Bioware (mis)handled the reaction to it. So I'm with you there. I still remember them telling us we'd get all our answers after everyone had time to play... Yeah right.
The other problem with Andromeda is that even if it's great (assuming it's another trilogy), it doesn't guarantee they won't pull another ME3 on us in a few more years, and I don't want to get invested only to have that happen again. But playing without being invested is fairly pointless. There's a good chance the MP will be good, but that's not exactly the praise I should be giving a Bioware game. And then of course the whole premise of Andromeda gets under my skin. The retcons... How they will (not) handle the endings... I won't rant about it too much since most people here are probably excited and who likes a killjoy? ![]()
So I'm in limbo right now. I need more info, and I'll stick around to get it from the new sites. I might not post as much though. But I understand where you're coming from, where I fear I'll be depending on their next games. I wish you the best, whatever happens, and if good things happen, come find us ![]()
On a bit of a more humorous note, this gif came to mind earlier. Quick impression of BioWare deciding to take the forums offline. It's probably my last chance to show it off here.
To make sure this is on topic: This is a bad idea, forum heads. Please, take the time between now and October to reconsider this.
It will always bug me (no pun intended) that it has six legs, but it's still cool! Saved ![]()

Sadly there is probably no chance that Bioware will reconsider. It seems like this has been something they've been considering since at least 2012, and the closure of Off Topic was probably around the time the decision was made. A lot of people were predicting that was likely just the first phase of this place being wound down. Turns out they were right.
Pretty much just went in steps to the place being abandoned. Devs stopped visiting, then events were mishandled, then mods stopped communicating, then mods were replaced with nameless outsourced mods, and then off-topic was closed. Bioware's been consistently more abandoning this place for years.
Less than 20 days to go and this is still my thoughts on it:
OH MY GOD! I laughed so hard at this! *wipes tears*

Yes I should be able to. But I won't be able to confirm accounts easily so we need to get people registered asap
About to do just that!
Also, this closure continues to annoy and depress me. The closure is like a gut-punch to the fans, and the erasure is kicking us (and themselves) while we're down. Grr!

What we hear often is that people dislike that all the great info and good memories on BSN are lost. Your site help to preserve that. And users will be able to continue there where they left off here. I love that.
Keep up the good work. ![]()
I'ma miss y'all
Next to Workday Cheer, your astronomy threads tied for the best ones to ever happen on this forum. You are a kind, considerate, passionate poster who tries to see the best in everyone. You made off topic a better place by contributing to it, just as you'll make any corner of the internet you happen to spend time in better for having you.

SpoilerAnd that talk about fading into the digital either just sounds so sad! Here.

Man, they so could have turned it around for me after Trespasser by making a DA4 or DA:I 2 or whatever that continues the story from Trespasser without randomly changing the protagonist. If they had I would have had renewed hope. MEA is the first BioWare game since I first started playing BioWare games that I haven't followed the development of, talked and speculated about, etc...I don't know what it's about or when it's set or anything about it. I saw part of one trailer for it like a year ago (it was before a youtube video) the only thing I remember about it was that it used a Johnny Cash song and I loves me some Johnny Cash (you can't manipulate me with Johnny Cash BioWare!). My reaction to ME3 was strong enough to neatly sever my love of the series and the combination of DA2, DA:I, and throwing out the stuff set up in trespasser coupled with killing off the BSN has finally nudged me off the edge with DA as well. The really sucky thing is that with Fallout 4 and likely all games in the future, Bethesda has gone away from the things I like in a game to a more mass market appeal as well. Now the only thing I have left is Telltale. There aren't any other random companies making games I like (well there is choiceofgames.com's text games but I've played all the ones I was interested in). Over the last several years there have been fewer and fewer games coming out that I like and I think it might be almost time for me to give up gaming entirely but I need something else to replace it lol.
