In the Sera friendship ending Dagna makes a crossbow arm for the former Inquisitor.  She'd probably be able to make other replacements too.  Plus, a mage Inquisitor could make a spirit arm (a Knight Enchanter is already summoning a blade made out of spirit, after all).

I've never been so glad to be a mage player as right now. LOL

(Honestly, I only played non-mage in DA:2 because I wanted to have a romance with Fenris when he's not always pissed off at me. The hate romance was just messed up with him as a mage.)

Bioware cannot stand happy endings. Bioware just loves to crush my heart every time.

See, I thought they meant the part where past hero characters get dragged out of whatever life they were in and forced into a cameo or a ham-fisted explanation for why they aren't the hero of the current game. Bad endings or outcomes are fine, but unless it's directly necessary for the story, don't parade them around to try to make them relevant where they don't need to be.

The Inquisitor is another matter since they left Trespasser with a very strong hint at them still actively pursuing a Situation. I'd believe it, story-wise, if they came back in one capacity or the other.

And yes, yes, it's probably off topic for this thread. I guess it says something that even in this people can find things to discuss. Not many of us want to see this place closed, even as many have moved on to other forums. Still a shame. And still hard to understand.

You are not allowed to have a happy ending!

I learnt the hard way...
1. Side piece for Alistair... Because elf mage! Racism grrrr.
2. Crazy wild ride with Anders one playthrough and THEN the very next playthrough Anders wants me to kill him, I had to let lover-boy Fenris kill him cause I just couldn't... MY HEART, BIOWARE!
3. Elf fangirl for life, so I had to pick Solas on my first playthrough. And we know how that goes... I haven't been able to play DA:I again (DA:O 3-4 games, DA2 like 6+ games, DA:I - ONE!)

Bioware cannot stand happy endings. Bioware just loves to crush my heart every time.

If you ever do play DAI again, keep the theme going and ride the Bull. Just make sure he does the right thing and preserves your alliance with the Qunari.

Yes, I understand we are just a minority, but a minority that made friends buy Bioware games. I managed to get my sister to play DAO and ME, then she bought the rest by herself and she even preordered DAI. I've also convinced several friends to buy those games. That is what a loyal customer do, spread the word and convince others to play the games. We are the cheapest marketing campaign, we do this for free. The strategy to dump the loyal customer and gain new casual players could work as long as there is hype, once the hype of the release is forgotten they won't sell ****, and the hype was generated mostly here, at least for me. I don't think those new players will buy merchandising or dlcs. At least that is what I think, maybe the mouth to mouth was good for the old Bioware but not for EA.

Anyway, I think I'm done with Bioware and EA, I'll still play their games but I'll wait for a good discount. 20-30€ for a relatively bug free game seems like a nice price.

No offense but the numbers you are talking about are infinitesimal on a global scale. They know most of us here will grumble but end up laying out the cash for each game that is released. What they really care about are net new customers and if they lose 100 hardcore fans while gaining 1000 casuals thats okay from a business perspective. This isn't just an issue for bioware fans. It's the gaming industry as a whole. Hardcore fans aren't nearly has important to the bottom line as we like to think we are.

I started a thread requesting Off Topic be brought back in May or June, and it was shortly after locked without explanation. In retrospect I wonder if the decision to shutter the entire BSN was already made, despite fans only being told now.

Right, several people in the OT closure thread I linked speculated that it was the first step in shuttering the whole forum. It turns out they were right.

At least they didn't shutter it in 12 minutes this time.

Careful guys. Things have gotten so nutty around here that just about any post not related directly to the topic will get removed or worse. This does include talking about BioWare games.*

*I wish I was making that up.

If BioWare would just watch Hunter x Hunter then they would understand how self-destructive and alienating to your closest allies a quest for revenge can be.

I think it started back in January myself. That's when I noticed a more reactive method of managing posts on the forums start up. Why bother with cleaning up the forums when you can keep a minimal presence until the "time was right?"
In any case, I agree with you. This has been in the works for quite sometime. Heck, I can't help but wonder if this was brewing back when OT was closed.

I feel bad now for doing a Treebeard impression and telling people not to be hasty, when they warned that the closure of Off Topic was likely just the first step in shuttering the entire forum. Turns out they were right.

Aww man...I stop lurking for a month, and I come back to find that the forums are gonna be killed :'(

I like this place.

A few years ago, I found the forum whilst searching for news on Inquisition. I like having all the news in one place, as opposed to having to scour various social media sites. I wish I had posted a bit more often. I didn't expect that they would decide to end a forum this sudden. I feel worse for the long time members, though. I know a lot of people have good memories here, and I think it's kind of mean that Bioware's is going to go ahead and erase that history from the internet.

RIP the good times

Hmm, actually I got a helpful answer in the HQ. One in a million. Whatever, the fact that Conal tweeted me back and directed me to the HQ is still funny and I don't care what you think!

Closing the forums is dumb. #BioVerpls

Heh awesome for you. A problem I had I ended up solving myself
Noone even looked at my answers hq post. Another one I created was asking how I could buy ME3 DLC on origin when they only accepted the now defunct Bioware points. You can bet THAT got answered fast.

After thinking on this a few more days, I feel that the closing of this thread and dispersing of the community it a big old load of BS.  I'm even more salty that I was before.  And, seeing as how very few of the people who work at BioWare really want to have discussions with fans of this forum, I think I will be unfollowing them on twitter/fb/instagram and snapchat.

If I get info about any of their upcoming games, I get it.  If I don't, I don't. I'll buy their games if and when I get around to it from now on.

I will be frequenting the forums in my signature to talk to fellow fans of their previous games.

Yeah, they cut us all without warning. After the same thing happened when the Warhammer Online section of the BSN was being closed down, and they apologized to me for it, they did it again. It just shows a lack of appreciation and respect, especially considering that was 6 years of saving them likely hundreds of thousands and never asking for anything in return. Yeah, I am sadly as done as someone can get.

That really is a raw deal. You were the best moderator around these forums. You saved the Sera thread and the drinkquisition. Thank you.

This is harder to write than I thought it would be. This is my final post on the BSN. I had someone come by and say hi and then left me a gift. It isn't even my birthday. <glare>

I've got too much stuff going on in my life right now to do this anymore. I know I said I'd keep going, but I feel like I'd just be repeating myself at this point.

The actions done here by the BioWare community heads has destroyed my faith that this company cares about anyone aside from social media. That click bait and those likes on Facebook sure are shiny. I guess the forum heads wanted to make it clear that they despise this "toxic" community. Well, they succeeded with me. I'll be around, but only to confirm my archives are uploaded.

I'm going to miss you guys. I'd list a bunch of names, but that would take too long. So I'll try to sum this up:

The threads dedicated to bug fixes and game settings: I wouldn't have been able to play my games without you.

Lore threads: Good times being a rogue in the middle of a mage v templar debate.

What did you today thread in the ME section: Without you guys, I never would have become a ME fan.

The Gay KISA thread: Don't be a stranger. I love that thread.

Character threads: The passion and dedication to those characters are amazing. Shoutout to the Cullen thread for years of dedication.

Folks that are now going to be on Nexus: Thanks for the clothes and other goodies.

Everyone else: Thank you for the debates, the conflict, the laughs and the conversation. You guys helped make me into a better person. That is the legacy of this site I'm going to carry with me. That and some of the most incredible and unique people I've ever known. I've got a lot of friends that made it offsite. :)

I have always believed in and strived for civility. At the end of the day we're all passionate geeks. We're gamers that have spent years and money for a company that we believed in. I tried to constantly see the forums in that light. It's easy to be kind when we all have that one thing in common. I know there are folks that have found me probably preachy throughout the years. I don't mean to be, I only want to try to reach more of a common ground. Sometimes it works, sometimes I come off like a jerk.

If nothing else, I want people to carry that with them. We're all just gamers that want the most from the games we played. My entire time I've been here, I've seen very little of this destructive behavior that we're all being accused of. Sure we bicker, but the threats are not allowed here. The very few times I've seen folks act like that they were immediately called out and reported. I think it's safe to say that the overwhelming majority of this community doesn't think that way over a bunch of pixels.

So that's that. You guys have fun, be safe and enjoy life. Remember that the fans still care about this "awful" community so we all can enjoy the games. Remember the lifeboats. And never, ever, leave the house without a towel. I'll leave you all with one final basset hug:

Oh come on!  I can't make the Bull do that...

The ONE character that ended with a playthrough where Anders is dead is forever cannon as the "Hawke that my Warden would kill on sight.". At least DA:2 was short, I can't fathom playing all the way to DA:I end with making Bull do that hanging over my head. Every Hawke I played and every Warden I played would heavily disagree with that decision and that Inquisitor would become cannon "Inquisitor destined to die by Hawke's hand or Warden's hand whenever she reappears".

Speaking of which ... where in gawd's name is my Warden, that woman could do anything. And yet she's not handling business now for TWO games.  She better be dead, that's all I'm saying, cause there's no excuse for all this slacking off.

Do you? He has one arm still and I also doubt having your hand cut off would prevent magic from coming out of the "stump" where the hand was as weird as that might look.

Right, just look at DA:O, the mage warden wielded their staff with only one arm throughout the entire game.  Not to mention all the spells and shape shifting that was done not even using your hands or staff.  Then check out the Venatori mages who casted spells using a floating book.  A one arm loss should be nothing to a mage IQ.

It was only in DA 2 and DAI that for some reason mages couldn't fight properly without twirling their staffs around.

That sucks, and I've seen quite a few people with similar stories lately  :?  I'm sorry  :(  This still sucks, and is still very dumb.

Right, but you do need limbs to cast spells.

1. Since when?

2. The Inquisitor still has 3.5 limbs.

The funny thing is that there is still people joining the forums. If you click on the option to show new users, about a dozen people show up. They're in for a surprise.

It doesn't help that it isn't immediately obvious that this place is closing. At least, I don't think it is.

Got my post regarding the data analyst position edited.

Why, I wonder.

Mike Laidlaw responded to a tweet I made tagging him so I've got that going for me

Though I miss when he was here.

I don't

No offense but the numbers you are talking about are infinitesimal on a global scale. They know most of us here will grumble but end up laying out the cash for each game that is released. It's the gaming industry as a whole. Hardcore fans aren't nearly has important to the bottom line as we like to think we are.

I think there's a danger in pandering to those who scream the loudest. They aren't necessarily representative. But this is something I feel that Bioware have well in hand. What they don't understand, is how much golden and unique information there is in the feedback from people who are genuinely angry, no matter how raging or offensively that feedback is presented.

As for the "hardcore fans" and "casuals": If we're speaking about people who are buying games, spending money, and playing typical games, - There are no "casuals". That's an illusion. Those people are similar to the "hardcore fans". They think the same, feel the same, have similar opinions. They're just more silent.

"Casuals" is the imaginary market segment that EA marketing forced Will Wright to make the gameplay for, in Spore. They don't exist in videogaming and never will. Possibly, you could call those on mobile phones casual.

There is however a huge untapped market of people that would find some variety of videogames fun and entertaining to play. But they aren't anything at all like what is often perceived as "casual" players. They are the type of people that sometimes get drawn into computer gaming through contemplative and fairly sophisticated things like non-action RPGs and simulations like old SimCity (not new).

I'm going to leave the question, if Bioware will lose customers or not by closing down the forums, by the side. I'm not sure that's the case. What I'm saying here is that if you lose 100 hardcore fans, you also lose 1000 other, silent customers. Any other perception is pure delusion.
