BW? Not so much. Their community management and marketing department are based around hype marketing and they have no idea what to do with the critique after DA2 and ME3. I must give credit, where credit is due, though. The DA:I team really tried to improve the product. It isn't a perfect game, certainly not, but many flaws that plagued DA2 have gone. They even had a public beta patch test program. They could have used all that in their marketing, but BW has chosen not to do that, because it doesn't fit hype. The ME3 team felt that they needed to do something, but the EC turned out to be more of the same, to save their "artistic integrity". The ending still felt detached from the rest of the games. Of course the ME3 team never felt that they'd failed, because those nasty gamers really didn't understand their vision. That doesn't gain any confidence in the company.

All that remains now is that BW indeed listens (they shout it from the rooftops), but they forgot to pull the fingers out of their ears, just as their gamers are allowed to speak, as long as they keep their mouth shut. Hence, they close down of the forums.

Agreed, BW keeps changing the channel hoping to hear something they like

So, logically, they burn down these forums and let us travel to a half dozen new boards, even angrier now that Bioware has banished us from their domain.

Entirely logic. Because as the scorpion said to the frog: It's what EA do.

Yeah, that will stop the spread of "toxic memes" all right   <_<

?   Of course not!   It's what is adding the poison. Can't have toxic without poison.

What's the intermediate step between that and "Profit"?

I don't know about "intermediate", nor am I so sure of "profit", but I think we with a great deal of confidence can assume buying yet another successful game franchise and developer.

The posters there are... less than kind in their opinion of the bsn posters. And they want to build a wall. Lol

Workday Cheer mostly could not be. It's my understanding that Fexelea is only importing accounts that people have access to. I have lost access to my old account ('mousestalker'), so no import. It's a small sad. It was mostly just spam, but I liked it.

I don't believe anyone is claiming their old accounts by actually re-accessing them on the new site, but by accessing their newly-made accounts' informaiton.

So, unless I'm mistaken, you still have time to tell them something like mousestalker>biotic apostate. If I understand how it works correctly, it is the password and e-mail you registered with Fextralife that gains access to the account (meaning you could bypass the problem and regain access that way.)

Among other things:

Or they've finally realized that the Bioforums are an unredeemable shithole full of crazy deviants that are actively scaring away more reasonable fans. Purging only the offending users would create too much backlash, so the only solution is to nuke everything from orbit and scatter the biodrones to 3rd party sites where EA has no responsibility.

The rest of the thread is in the same tone.  Very educational.

Welp, even though the purge of the Off Topic section was enough to stop me constantly visiting this place, it's still a shame to see this happening. Even though the forums had cultivated a stereotype of being toxic and the like (something I feel was unfair and that the perception itself bred even further 'toxicity' and the like) I still enjoyed my time here. There were/are many genuinely funny and engaging users. The high dev participation was also pretty neat and I loved seeing them pop about.

Sure, there were loons but this is the internet and loons are friggen everywhere.

That Mass Effect Deception thread was one of my favourites to be a part of. Good fun.

I went there and have read the whole thread. I really don't see why they would set themselves on such high horses. They are badly misrepresenting bsn, using the usual methods - cherry picking communication disasters which are plenty on all forums - and they also come across as homophobic, neonazi racists. Actually they seem to be the same idiots who stirred up so much trouble on bsn about Bioware games including romances, homosexual men and dark skinned people. And I, saying this, consider myself vehemently anti-SJW.

I know this is a sentiment echoed by many. I know there are many ways for Bioware staffers to reach the fan base. I have looked at these forums as being a place for fans to sound off. It has been great fun.

I will miss this place.

Bioware, I think you people are making a HUGE mistake shutting down these forums.

Farewell all.

RPGcodex has good taste in RPG's. (Mostly) It's definitely a useful site if you want info on RPG's mostly older ones. I don't think they are Homophobic Neonazi racists. They are definitely on the aggressive side though. Most people on this site would not fit in at all.

Reading through that thread I was reminded of Peter Griffin, in one episode of Family Guy, describing the Republican party membership as "big fat white guys who are threatened by change".  But to be fair, one thread doesn't define a community and like them I despise the SJWs and the Orwellian newspeak those people are so fond of.

*shrug*  Every group has its own mindset and sub-culture, and excluding outsiders is a common reaction.

I think we need to switch metaphors. We're mosquitoes, and the BSN is a big pool of standing water. Draining the pool won't exterminate the species since we'll just find a puddle someplace, but it will cut down on breeding a bit.

Not really, since we'll just find new areas to congregate.  And ""draining the pool" will only be further evidence that we are the injured party and Bioware has totally lost their connection with their base.

Face it, we're not mosquitoes, much as you'd like to dismiss us as bugs.  We're customers, with a list of grievances.  Kicking us to the curb will only add to that.  We will go elsewhere, spreading how ill-treated we were in addition to older issues.  This attempt to stifle their bad PR is only going to lead to worse PR

Draining this big pool has already beget the creation/growth of multiple other pools, where BioWare has zero chance to influence the narrative.

I did a search for mass effect Andromeda. It was on the Chinese version of Google but same ideal. This forum was on the first page. I searched multiple pages and not once did the other sites come up.

This suggests they are counting on new customers not knowing our forums exist. Marketing I mean. I'm sure Bioware devs aren't so petty.

I agree it's not fair to judge a group by a few members. Something people on both sides of the issue need to be reminded of.
