If this isn't a money issue then why close the forums? BW hasn't put much effort in it for a while anyway.

Instead of closing it you should be proud of it, I mean people are here for your games. Your forums are still bustling because of your games and what they evoke in people (bad or good) they're not here for Developer interaction, everyone that has been here for some time know that Devs stopped coming here a while ago and just pop up rarely, yet they're still here. Fans from all over the world that play your games are here on your official forum, why take that away? I just don't understand..

Funny how no other Dev is bothering coming here, seeing as you keep telling us that it was such a hard decision for BW to make.

I really love BW and their games and I rarely criticize anything you do, but this just feels like a punch in the gut.

This is where the chemical composition of Tali's sweat was analysed, this is the place where the Miranda fans got into a civil war and managed to close the entire Companion forum, this is the place from which we sent red-blue-green muffins to Bioware HQ while everyone was using a "X deserves a better ending" banners.

And, quite frankly, some of the other places suggested are plain and simply toxic.

We aren't suggesting you use Twitter, or Facebook, or any other platform that you don't want to. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and we encourage our players and studio members to use the sites that suit their preferences.

There are many places where you can still have in-depth discussions about lore, such as the wikis, fan run community boards. And yes, there is even Reddit, which while these discussions may sometimes get buried on the main subreddit, there is nothing precluding the creation of a lore or character-specific subreddit.

The discussions you are referring to are already happening in many other spaces and in many other forms. Some ephemeral and quick, others in-depth and at length.

We understand and appreciate that the people who use these boards enjoy them, but there are a lot of great things out there waiting. And while we are sad to see them go, we are hopeful for the future, and remain committed to talking with and listening to our community.

BSN right now:

no he isn't.  Everything he's said has been at best contradictory, at worst just nonsense.

And they are shutting it down because they are embarrased/preempting a meltdown after ME:A/it actually is financial

take your pick

he clarified it wasn't monetary...

he said the vision is to have these discussions take place elsewhere and he gave some elaboration.

And more importantly Conal is not silent, he's here filling in details as best as he can.

Imagine if no one from Bioware was commenting?  Many would even would be more angry.

I may not like it either what his job role is making him say, but he's still adding to the discusssion in several ways.

Just maybe not the way we want.

But I do agree some things sound very contradictory.

Simply put, if it's not monetary, then why shut it down?

How are you going to listen to the community in dozens of third party sites?

They aren't, but they don't need to for what they need. Actually "listening in" on what people are saying produces a huge noise to signal ratio. To create products that will appeal to the wide audience that they need in order to stay afloat, they need more...statistical feedback, if you will. Forums are not useful for that, market metrics are.

And they are shutting it down because they are embarrased/preempting a meltdown after ME:A/it actually is financial

It's gotta be one of the two. Nothing else really makes logical sense. Andromeda as a project is looking more and more dubious and potentially like a sinking ship for the whole studio, so it could be that. Alternatively, they are a business, and it's simply much cheaper to use other people's servers for the occasional press release than to pay the necessary costs associated with both the human and technical costs of running their own forums.

Well, I can't decide whether this is surprising or unsurprising, lol. Bioware's decreased interest in the forums has been obvious for a while, but to pull the plug on such a short notice and not even leaving the boards archived... There's no excuse and the given "explanation" makes no sense whatsoever. It's a shame. I haven't been very active anymore in a while, mostly because my interest in DA:I is minimal, but I've had a lot of fun on these forums. DAO was my first RPG and this site is the only place where I've had so many in-depth discussions about games, stories and characters. It can be crazy, but that just comes with the geek fandom.

I didn't have much respect left for Bioware to begin with, but rest assured it's all gone now. It's downright embarrassing an announcement like this still gets wrapped in the hollow phrases about caring about fans and fan interactions.

The spokesperson claims that BioWare is reading what we're writing and considering our opinions, but how is that the case when they made their decision before consulting us?

Seems to me that if they really cared about our opinions they would have ASKED us if closing these forums would be a good idea or not, and would have discussed what alternatives we might have if the forums were closed down.

nice work biofan

Thanks. I really am just sad about this whole thing because of what the forums have meant to me, what they've inspired me to do, and what a difference they've made in my life. I just wanted to put something quick together to talk about it. I have a community within my subscribers and viewers to talk to as well, but it all started here <3

With so many great things so widely available, our developers today find themselves spending more time on other sites, and less time in our own forums. And to our fans and players who came to those boards looking to talk to us, it was a great disservice.

So can you at least explain why weren't the devs spending time on their own forums? How is Twitter or Reddit or Facebook better than BSN? How can it be easier to get fan feedback from multiple 3rd party sites?

I agree that they should have gotten some feedback from us forum users, but it's not as if our responses would have been much different than what they are now. If we got a say in on the matter, the forum would stay, no question. Unfortunately, we don't get a say, because they want the forum gone and don't want anything to stop them from pulling the trigger.

"But with the rise of social media and geek culture, there have never been more ways for us to connect."

lmao like you ever cared to connect with us for longer than two minutes on any other platform. as if the writers weren't so scared of criticism they ran from it every time.

is your idea of "connecting" just rarely answering questions and handing out basic lore on your boring twitter accounts?

What you doing Bioware is not only indefensible but also insulting to your fans, closing these forums will only make people see you in a more negative light and be more skeptical of your products.
