****** hell, are you White and do you have a real gender too?
I also have the gall to be heterosexual

This. The Tumblr communities seem to know very clearly what is right and what is wrong and woe be to you if you even see in shades of gray, let alone have a flat out different point of view. Also, blogging and reblogging isn't really conducive to discussion that involve more than two people at a time anyway. Twitter is similarly poor for conversation. I already post on GameFAQs, and will probably just remain there. I'm sure Reddit isn't too bad, but their format is just too confusing for me.Bioware, I'm way too Pro-Templar to go to Tumblr. I won't last a day in there, man.
Conal is adding significantly to the discussion.
You may be upset like all of us, but turning this into a "rant/grieving" only isn't helpful IMO.
On that note, I would like to understand why, if it's not monetary, why they are shutting it down.
Look, I'm not blaming the individual who's been sent to the front as the mouthpiece of the organization; s/he has a job to do. What I'm saying is the message, such as it is, has been delivered and it might be wiser to stop now rather than risking turning upset into anger. Because whatever the true reason behind this move, it certainly is more than just 'engaging with our beloved fans on other platforms'.
Why am I suddenly afraid for the future of the Dragon Age franchise? ![]()
Thanks. I really am just sad about this whole thing because of what the forums have meant to me, what they've inspired me to do, and what a difference they've made in my life. I just wanted to put something quick together to talk about it. I have a community within my subscribers and viewers to talk to as well, but it all started here
Spoiler
I hear you brother ![]()
Well since you're shutting this down anyway might as well get honest.
I Grand Admiral Cheesecake got perma-banned for disagreeing with Drones. I made a new account because I actually liked plenty of the people I interact with here.
Now that's over, so long and eat a bag of dicks Bioware. Enjoy your echo chambers.
I remember the Admiral. She was great.

****, Tumblr is hostile territory, they don't want ma kind in there.
I ain't setting foot, **** that.
Is here anything we can do to either change Bioware's mind or start an alternative site.
Would a letter writing campaign work? A poll? An email blitz? I would be prepared to pay an annual membership fee to keep the board going. C'mon bioware. Have a heart and live your own stated philosophy!
There must be something we can do.

The best we can do is find a fan sustained forum to preserve the community. The real Dragon Age fans one seemed decent.

they probably made up their mind on this ages ago, a last ditch effort to save the forums isn't going to work

There are Bioware employees who'd want to change minds over closing this down. If they can't figure it out, I doubt we will.
You are absolutely right on that point. As the years have gone by we have been spending more time on other sites and spaces and less time on our own boards. This was unfair to those of you who use our forums.
We took a hard look at how we were engaging our community, and made the difficult decision to focus on fostering conversations in these new spaces, and to close our forums.
So is the bolded part the main reason for the forum shutdown?
I don't think hardly a BSNer really was ever too concerned about this in the last few years.
Instead, we had twitter overviews and they worked great.
I can't imagine getting a twitter account to go see what the bioware devs are doing.
The summaries here worked great for many of us who don't live on social media.
Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Tumblr are all absolute jokes to offer up as alternatives for the kind of discussion a structured, dedicated forum can foster tbh.
This is common sense I wish others had.
I'm fearful for its present, too, really. I have all the games via Origin, since I don't own any modern consoles. If this is indeed the beginning of a controlled crash-and-burn (which, again, I think is possibly where they expect things to do with Andromeda), then I may just end up completely losing the games I bought in the first place. Why am I suddenly afraid for the future of the Dragon Age franchise?

Just pack your bag and try to leave with a bit of dignity.
We've just been collectively dumped.
The problem is you are shutting down the offical community. The fan run ones will only last as long as the fans want to keep supporting them. This was the place to go for offical news and updates. Most of us already have a presence on other social media but we come here to discuss the games.
How are you going to listen to the community in dozens of third party sites?
This news is boggling my mind for exactly this reason. Are we really supposed to just google up some random "other site" to discuss ME:Andromeda? Scatter to a dozen different places to talk about any upcoming DA4? The talked-about new IP gets announced and we're, what, going to make tumblr posts and call it good?
Fan sites are transient at best, and when a game is launched people who are stuck in a quest or having bug issues would reasonably expect to go to the company's actual forum to discuss the issues, or to just talk about a favorite plot or character. Updates might be accessible from the company website, but... really? I guess those of us with no real presence on other social media are secondary citizens at best, and if we are likewise busy and have no desire to hop from one popup fan site to the next, we're just out of luck.
I get that maybe some other forums have less childish vitriol and such, but If these forums aren't doing the job the "other sites" are, perhaps it's time to work on the forums instead of just completely hosing it and hiding somewhere else. There is a wealth of interesting stories and discussions on here, and it's a freaking shame that the avenue for those discussions will be totally lost.
Hey, Big Idea.. SPEND MORE TIME ON YOUR OWN FORUMS. You know some customers/user base actually use them every day and the built knowledge base for some of the games is not replaceable or find-able elsewhere. You're shooting yourself in the face as this is my go to source for MEA info and this makes me wonder what Bioware's commitment to their 'fans' will be like in the future. How much does it really cost you guys to keep the forums up and running? Is it such a massive expense that it's breaking your ability to make games? I'll go back to my collection of old games before i support half-efforts on new titles. I research before I buy, and you're removing that ability from every person moving forward. Again, why on earth would you do that?
Make your staff use your forums, provide real feedback and work witht he community or you're no better than the reputation EA holds. Trying hard to keep you guys separate, but maybe I should not.
The sheer value of feedback alone should be reason to keep the forums running. Does Bioware have zero interest in giving their customers what they want overall? To fix and not repeat mistakes leading to worse glitches in new titles? Tell me you're actually working to improve your games, not push out broken products like every other crap game maker...
i'm aghast.

They are what younger people use and that's what EA has been focusing on. I'm guessing BW is doing the same, most likely why they are more active on Twitter, etc... the newer fans are the focus. Us much older fans had this place to talk in depth about stuff.
(It's actually us!)
It's so us.
Also, I like your avatar.

Except a lot of young fans come here too. Bioware's cutting off the premier location to talk and discuss about their products because they choose not to use it over using other locations that offer far less constructive criticism. Its bizarre.

I don't understand that reasoning in bolded at all. (Thanks for clarifying the first part.)
Why shouldn't we all try to understand where Bioware is coming from so we can try and save our forums?
I think most of us can agree the rationale posted so far for shutting this down seems "inconsistent etc"
