Given the apparent lack of civility and maturity seen in this thread alone, simply giving Bioware evidence (though not proof) that they were correct.

Or simply people are upset and pissed off? It is basically a stab in the back to their greatest fans.

I never added anyone to my ignore list. I know I'd just feel curious and look at the hidden post anyway.

I never did either, actually, for similar reasons. I don't like to miss things and I can always manually ignore someone if I feel like it.

I wonder how many lists I'm on :D

If BioWare truly believed forums were no longer necessary, then they would have closed the SW:TOR forums, too.

Oh right, I forgot about that. Yet another reason their reasoning for the closure makes no sense at all <_<

One chooses how to act. I would hope that adults would opt for something a bit more reasoned than screaming obscenities, calling names, and the other actions of a pre-teen youngster.

As an MMO it may have been shown to benefit from a forum too.

Over the years I ignored 16 people.

In 7 days, 538,092 people will be stopped from sharing.

In 67 days, 538,092 people will be ignored permanently.

Ignored maybe, but the forum community is not easily silenced. New forums rise from the ashes. And many wikis, posts and mods will be preserved by that community.

Many BioWare advocates here have now changed their minds. I used to be one. The little goodwill that was left has gone into thin air by closing and purging the forums. The sneaky announcement (a forum post and company blog during the summer and vacations of many), without informing the customers by e-mail, doesn't sit well by me. BW gambles that the fall out of that will be gone before the sales season. They also don't want their new releases to be criticized. Yeah, BW listens, but with the fingers in their ears, because these "new spaces" (BW-speak for social media) aren't suitable to "foster conversations". Naughty, naughty.

I heard about the closure thru a PM from a friend.

Same here.

I have been away from the forums for some time since BW didn't release anything new about ME:A, but a few weeks ago I was surfing the net for a collector edition of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and I happened to stumble upon a pre-order page on Amazon for Andromeda and the release date is in March next year, so I thought maybe I should check the forums and see who is talking about that.

Upon coming here I saw a thread called "ME:A is so Underwhelming they are Closing the Forums?" but I didn't pay attention because I thought this is probably another gimmicky move pulled by BW and maybe the closure only affects the Andromeda forum or, an entire new forum will open to replace this one, why not, they did that before

On the exact same day I received a PM notification from someone on my FL here through my personal email, I was alarmed immediately and now you know the rest :)

I joined the Bioware forum back in 2007, when the first Mass Effect was released. I remember it fondly because I have the slider settings for the 'Megan Fox' Shepard (which has become my default) still saved to my hard drive

Mee too :)

I still have a lot of pictures stored in the old BSN of my Megan Shepard

True. I'm not really posting anywhere other than this thread (rarely it's just silly posts elsewhere).

And then, there's also people that have rage-quit, because reason.

Oh gee, thanks for saying my posts in other threads are silly <_<

Just kidding! :P In all honesty I do agree with you, I can't say for others but my posts ARE silly because I was trying to too hard to treat Mass Effect as real science, sooner or later I will realize I was debating using the opposite end of my mouth

But that was the fun of it. I remember that you made some fantastic screen shots of the platform where the Intelligence preaches its religion. At the time that was important to the discussions. Was that platform part of the Citadel or part of the Crucible? Those were great times. :)

@DaemionMoadrin, concerning "profanity": When you hear 3 years old girl sing a song about C-word, entire concept of profanity and inappropriate language kinda flies out the airlock.

Also, I find all those gloating about forum closure and calling other people "toxic" actually the most "toxic" element here. Bt that's just me, what do I know?

Just a coming to terms with the simple truth that he is all of us, and we are him. His entire sense of self is crumbling.

Nope. You cannot generalize that this forum is toxic. What you can say is that BioWare's erratic behavior after various controversial decisions (in games and forum handling) caused confusion and that leads to criticism, which BioWare didn't like. Labeling that as toxic is yet another way to sell the closing and purging of the forums. BioWare caused all this and not their customers.

I'm tired of the extremism that's been posted here in the past.

We need to be more moderate in our language. "All things in moderation" wrote the philosopher and that's excellent advice. Moderating our emotions can only redound to our benefit, after all. We should model our behaviour after the modding community where even tempers are the norm. The result of that moderation in posting is that some truly excellent mods have been made available for those games that allow modding.

I actually feel that I have grown more civil over the years (disclaimer: this is of course debatable) I spent in these forums: some of the people here are truly inspirational to me, winning debates without uttering a single profane word, whilst remaining polite and composed at all times. I don't know if there is a term to describe such people, maybe "Professional Forumites"? Anyway, these are the people I aspire to, and I feel that I am a lot calmer now during debates than I was a few years ago, so I guess I owe it to them
