Same here.
I have been away from the forums for some time since BW didn't release anything new about ME:A, but a few weeks ago I was surfing the net for a collector edition of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and I happened to stumble upon a pre-order page on Amazon for Andromeda and the release date is in March next year, so I thought maybe I should check the forums and see who is talking about that.
Upon coming here I saw a thread called "ME:A is so Underwhelming they are Closing the Forums?" but I didn't pay attention because I thought this is probably another gimmicky move pulled by BW and maybe the closure only affects the Andromeda forum or, an entire new forum will open to replace this one, why not, they did that before
On the exact same day I received a PM notification from someone on my FL here through my personal email, I was alarmed immediately and now you know the rest
Same here. I wouldn't have known until a friend messaged me. I know no one will care but I'm not really hurt by the forum closing. I spent some long nights on here back in the day but this place isn't like it used to be and the same goes with Bioware. I've mentally checked out of their games for good so I wish them the best in the future.
My issue here is for the people that still love Bioware and want to stay. How can you tell them there are so many other "outlets" to connect with the company and then close your own forums? I don't know about anyone else but I don't have a Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, reddit or Tumblr account the first and why would I? Why should people have to leave the OFFICIAL channels and go to other places? Whatever.
I have read the word "toxic" enough times to last my entire life now.
Agreed. ![]()
I saw your signature. I hope that the fan fic forums will be preserved, but as far as I know they will. It's full of links to good stuff.
I cleared my ignore list for the forum closing. It's been useful but hey the world is ending!
I even considered leaving that personal email notification function on (for PMs received here) but then I got so many PMs I was forced to turn it off ![]()

Agreed. I think we are just numbers on a balance sheet. Right now BW believes we are in the red. Not very smart, though. They moved the forums in that position. It's self-inflicted damage.
To return to an earlier topic. When I was little my mother told me that, in a discussion, the first person to resort to insults was the loser. She stressed that there didn't have to be a winner, normal civil discourse is not a debate, but that the first person to be rude or uncivil was always the loser. Later, she added the corollary that whatever term the rude person used as an insult typically exemplifies them the most of all. She said that not to give me a weapon to fight with, but rather a tool to help with empathy. To understand that when we are angry or frightened, we reach for the thing we fear the most.
My mother was a very wise woman and I have tried to take her words to heart. So I feel very sorry for the insulters here and elsewhere. When your mothers told you how to behave in public, you did not pay attention. Both you and the world around you are worse for it.
Ugh, do I detect a sense of self-doubt in your statement?
Of course you would say you are serene but your feelings weren't the point. None the less, this claimed serenity is not what you are showing between the lines. The stress appears in the cracks of your need to attack me personally. On more than just this occasion. No doubt you and your clique will be able to justify this to yourselves. To put it simply: You. Are. Toxic.
And a good example of how that toxicity is validated and promoted by the 'likes' this post of yours garnered from others similarly toxic.
There is no gloating on my part for the demise of this place. My pleasure is coming from the demise of this place as a playground for the toxic people of this forum who are going to have to feast on themselves rather than on an audience supplied by BioWare/EA.
Ruh-roh! Roxic?

It would appear that Internet Explorer renders many of the forum features non-functional, including the quote button. I am only discovering this now, but I have decided to be angry about it, anyway. I'm allowed - it's in my name.
"I never added anyone to my ignore list. I know I'd just feel curious and look at the hidden post anyway."
I recall only two exceptions, which would be people who felt that my opinions were too disagreeable for responding via forum posts, and instead required PMing me. While I couldn't help but be impressed with their dedication, the creepiness factor won out.
""as a playground" ... for toxic people. Please read and comprehend before responding to my posts. There is no need to rush to respond with some unfounded remark."
This all sounds so familiar that I half-expect you to start talking about how you want an elven slave to marry.
When my children purchased Dragon Age Origins for me, it was the beginning to a whole new passion. I don't mean the game, though I do have it on PS3 and PC (love them mods). I began lurking the forums. Then I discovered fanfic and read many stories. I decided to try my hand at it. I began my first fanfic towards the end of 2011 and have been writing since. My current one deviates from vanilla more than my first, and the next one planned will have a lot of new material (a greater test to my own skills, such as they are) since it will take place in 970 Dragon. I have all 3 games, I have played through multiple times, but I think I can safely say that my passion for the games is second to my passion for writing. I've always had stories or characters in my head, Dragon Age and these forums gave me the spark to put pen to paper (well, fingers to keyboard). For that I am grateful to Bioware for providing the forums and extremely sad and disappointed in their decision to close them.
Now, I am trying to finish my current fanfic before the close. Because I don't trust that the fan creations will remain. However, I am not going to skimp over any editing steps to do so. I will keep providing links to where I post on other sites.
On another note, I'm not a twitterer, tweeter, whatever but how does closing the forums prevent people from posting to PCGamer and the like? Or do the thingy wtih the #___? I still don't get it. *sigh*

To put it in the simplest of terms, BioWare is not providing a forum anymore and they even recommend going to other sites. The claim of those posts that say BioWare is trying to silence its forum users doesn't add up as there are other avenues to speak out on. It might be these posters think their criticisms or whatever are of such merit that they deserve a place paid for by BioWare but that's another matter.
I'm pretty much convinced by now that MEA will be the last game from BioWare as we know it today before the company is dissolved and redistributed amongst EA divisions, the remaining employees set to work on mobile/facebook style games, online, microtransaction filled games, etc...A forum is useless for a company that no longer exists and facebook and twitter are perfect to talk about mobile/etc...games since there's not much to them.

No Doctors.
Not an Edmonton studio project, it's a Montreal one.
Mostly made by folks who worked on ME3MP/Omega. Mac Walters is still on board so yay I guess.
I hate to tell you, but it already is a game made by the BioWare we barely know.
I will miss the Ignore function; invaluable over the last few yrs....
Um...the forums are closing. That's the biggest, easiest ignore function possible.
Okay, I've expressed my opinion on both Facebook and Twitter, and there's definitely a huge amount of people with similar sentiments.
Also Chris Priestly scolding someone for dwelling too much on the negatives instead of looking for new opportunities.
I think that's the thing that bothers me most. It's the people affiliated with Bioware, past and present, trying to spin this as a positive thing.
Even if I entertain the idea that's it's necessary, that they're making the only choice they can under the circumstances, it still doesn't make it a good thing, not for the fans or the company, because both are losing a huge resource when it comes to walkthroughs, guides, bug fixes, and people willing to help out with all of the above for free. At the very best, it's an unfortunate reality. I wish they wouldn't try to dress it up under the veneer of having our best interest at heart.
This has become standard PR for Bioware, unfortunately. Spinning less-than-stellar news as purely positive and patronizing customers by not being honest about reasons for decisions. Few of the recent (in the past few years) official statements from Bio have seemed honest or genuine. They have all been corporate PR speak and easily seen through. At least don't insult our intelligence when these "good news!" announcements are obviously only to benefit Bio and not the customers. The decisions will still be rough, but at least they would be honest.

ANd Bioware is leaning on that button for all their worth.

"Good news, everyone! We're prematurely cutting off DAI support for last gen consoles!"
"Good news, everyone! We're closing Off-Topic!"
"Good news, everyone! We're going to offer a SP reward exclusively through MP!"
"Good news, everyone! The first real piece of DLC will be a timed exclusive for the XBone!"
"Good news, everyone! We're gutting BSN functionality!"
"Good news, everyone! We know you hate the ending to ME3, and won't change it! But we will make it longer and with more plot holes FOR FREE!"

Bioware was the original Dr. Farnsworth.
Doesn't matter what we feel we "deserve" - it's an unprecedented move, period. Name another developer, major or minor, that doesn't maintain a forum dedicated to its games. I can't think of one. Regardless of what Bioware says, it's undeniable that none of the proposed alternatives lend themselves to any sort of substantive discussion, either among the fans or with the developers. Twitter? Youtube comments? Reddit?
So very much this.
Bioware's not fooling anyone.
There are people I would have added to my ignore list but in all my time here I've never worked out how to do it ![]()
Mee too
I still have a lot of pictures stored in the old BSN of my Megan Shepard
Spoiler
Nice to see I'm not the only one who still uses that face. I find it really difficult these days to play with a different one, just doesn't feel right to me.

Okay, I wasn't going to come back here and post anything else, but I read this and it just annoyed the crap out of me.
Tommy's a cool guy. To say that Tommy has a clique is utterly ridiculous. I have seen this guy argue with a lot of people here, with great civility as long as he is treated with civility. I have also seen him turn right around and agree with those same people that he argued with a few posts ago about something, I am one of those people. He says what he thinks and defends those opinions no matter who agrees or disagrees with them, and does so with a greater intelligence than I have seen from most people here, with considerable skills in debate. I have seen him on both sides of an argument with Elhanan, and that ain't easy to do, for me at least. And again, he treats people with respect as long as he is treated the same.
To say he has a clique, is ludicrous, as is calling him toxic. But I suppose that since I said good things about him I must be a part of said clique. *rolls eyes*
@N7M, IMO you are wrong. Closing the forums is closing the strongest vocal chord fans have.
This is already several tweets too long. So I will leave it here.

I'm sorry, but this post just comes off as mean-spirited. You're using the fact that BioWare has to pay to keep the site running - which I hear, isn't really that expensive - as leverage against the entitlement of posters. And you're using "criticisms" essentially as a buzzword to make the aforementioned posters look like the bad guys, when really they just feel like they've been left out to dry by BioWare. You have to expect someone to respond negatively to the decision, and calling them out for it is pretty pointless.
For some of us, these "other avenues to speak out on" aren't on the cards. I know for me, I refuse to join Facebook or Twitter just so I can talk about one of my favourite video game franchises and/or video game developers. I'd rather use an official website that I feel comfortable with, rather than one that I feel is superficial and reprehensible. For me, the chances of using any other site to discuss BioWare frequently is extremely low, so it kind of is like being silenced.
Also, it seems you decided to jump onto a poster that hasn't really made themselves known in this thread, as if to get them to join your side of the topic/argument (or to incite more argument). You seem to agree with the notion that this place is filled with contemptible people, but you yourself are being rude, so you're no better.
