Ok, hold up, hold up... So if it's NOT a monetary decision... So what the flippity floop is the argument for DELETING everything instead of making it READ ONLY?!
If it's not about the costs of the servers, please, please, PLEASE do us all a favor and keep everything read-only like the old version before this! This community invested years of time and effort into creating a vast database of useful information, don't let that just go to waste!

I'll just copy/paste my comment from BioFan's video as I think it fits here too:
I haven't been on BSN for long time, but I still remember the days when I had spend my mid-teens on BSN. It was really the most active part of my life, honestly. There were many up and downs, friendships and nemesis made. But I was truly part of a community over a gaming franchise I, well, we had loved and continue to love.
And I'll never forget when the days when I was one of the most active contributors to Known Features Thread for ME3. Gathering and organizing all the information, separating confirmed official facts from misleading rumours. It was great time, for the first time I felt I was actually contributing to people in my life.
It... it really went downhill since ME3 release though. But that's a long story by itself, but I just want to say those years really did helped me grow as a person and, well, pretty much get through my depressing high school life.
And now... forums are forever gone. Even though I wasn't active for years, it still hurts me. And Bioware's explanation for it just makes me feel worse, really.

Or alternatively, they know about something they're not saying which so much worse that is around the corner, that they figure this is the less-damaging alternative.
I wonder if the reaction to the ending of ME3 and how it actually had real effects such as forcing the release of the Extended Version has something to do with it.

Hey, Big Idea.. SPEND MORE TIME ON YOUR OWN FORUMS.
Quoting this too, for my somewhat more bitter response. The devs ran off to read other forums and can't be arsed about their own, so the rest of us get tossed out too? Don't tell US what YOU think is fair, ASK US if we mind having limited interaction but a rich atmosphere for discussion with like-minded fans. Don't just decide your choice to abandon the fanbase means the fanbase needs to go away. We've been doing just fine on our own. If the board is problematic to run or too expensive, or the devs have really taken a massive spite to our face, they'd be better off in being honest about it and not suggesting they're doing this for our benefit. That's just insulting.

Except a lot of young fans come here too. Bioware's cutting off the premier location to talk and discuss about their products because they choose not to use it over using other locations that offer far less constructive criticism. Its bizarre.
Indeed a lot of young fans do come here, I'm one of them. Can't have the same discussions in 140 characters on twitter.

If it's not a monetary decision then why close it?
If cost isn't an issue and you can see how passionate this community still is, even in a year without a game release, then how do you reach that decision? I can't see any negative consequences for the forum to stay where it is if you're being level with us.

They are what younger people use and that's what EA has been focusing on. I'm guessing BW is doing the same, most likely why they are more active on Twitter, etc... the newer fans are the focus. Us much older fans had this place to talk in depth about stuff.
i am not ageist, i think fans of all ages who care, want to know more and ask questions that can be answered and find answers for questions already asked.
Twitter is useless, it's a tech to drop a short banner/thought, not engage discourse or build a knowledge base. 'newer' fans.. or catering to those with a lack of value for context and research? Is this an effort to keep users stupid and not ask tough questions. HEY BIOWARE, STOP EMULATING THE DNC.
You cannot replace a functional forum with Twitter. You wont reach me as i DONT USE TWITTER but i do have enough budget to choose what AAA games i want to buy and continue investing in. You did this right, now you want to tear it down?? Reddit is not a solid dedicated forum, and is also out of your hands.

Probally so new players don't have to read all those qq threads on here and are going to think ''Omfg, does BW really suck that much? Just look at all those threads!''.
Jk, I dunno

What disappoints me the most about this whole thing is how unnecessary it is.
If Bioware truly care about the fans, then the upkeep of a server for a forum, and maybe hiring like 1 community manager would be no issue to them. Closing these forums not only feels like Bioware don't care, but that they're actively spiting the community here.
You know what? Is there even any point to writing this? It's not like Bioware employees frequent this often, or will even see this comment.

Understanding where Bioware is coming from is understanding that the forums aren't going to be saved. You're trying to treat a corporation like a person and they don't function that way. That's not a judgment of Bioware, either, that's just the way it works. Corporations are planets, people are subatomic particles. The laws of physics apply differently. Why shouldn't we all try to understand where Bioware is coming from so we can try and save our forums?

MESSAGE POPULAIRE !
I heard the news that BioWare is closing the forums, so I dredged up my account to say a few things.
For those here who aren't ancient like me, my name is Chris Priestly (some used to call me "Evil Chris") and I worked at BioWare for over 12 years. Basically from the end of BG2 till the start of DA:I. I started at BioWare in the QA department and became a prolific poster on the old BioBoards helping people out on Neverwinter Nights, KotOR and Jade Empire. Remember, this was back when the only real way to dialog between studio and fans was message boards. There was no Facebook, Twitter, blogs, YouTube, etc. As DA:O and ME1 came closer, the CM at the time (Jay Watamaniuk who is still a writer at BioWare) asked me to join the Community team. Together, along with many staff posters, amazing volunteer moderators and excellent fans, we created a great community on the BioWare forums that ran for years. Not everything was always rosey and there were always bumps in the road when fans/customers would question BioWare decisions, but overall we had a great time. Sadly, DA2 and the endings of ME3 weren't enjoyed by everyone (I'm not bring this up more, you know what I'm talking about if you were here) and things turned much more negative than they had been in the past. Still BioWare and its fans worked to keep these forums going. It wasn't easy. There were people in the studio, some quite powerful, who wanted the forums closed. Yet, there were also those, like me, who wanted the boards to stay open and after much discussion, they remained. And BioWare continues strong with the excellent Dragon Age: Inquisition game restoring fan's faith in the series and the intriguing Mass Effect Andromeda on the horizon (more details on this ASAP BioWare please).
My time at BioWare ended, but I am pleased the forums remained and the community here continues to thrive and grow. I'll always be a huge BioWare fan myself, I loved DA:I and can't wait for Andromeda to come out, and I am sad that the forums will finally be closing. Yet, I have faith in Conal and the rest of BioWare to have a plan ready for what will come next. Remember, these forums were started because there was no other way to talk with fans. Now there are lots of ways and I know Conal and the teams will be talking full advantage of them in time. I know this won't stop fans from worrying because that is in our nature until we see proof, but that's my 2 cents on it.
One last thank you to all of the amazing fans and friends I made during my time at BioWare here on the forums. I was fortunate enough to travel the world for BioWare meeting people including some who met on the boards (more than a few couples who met on the boards only to fall in love and marry in real life) who told me of the strong friendships they have made via the forums over the years. I look forward to being a fan of BioWare in whatever comes next. And a thank you to BioWare for running these forums and they joy they brought me over the years. Cheers.

This decision feels like a slap in the face to the fans who actually cared about the games on any meaningful level.

If they think closing the forums would have saved them from that backlash, then they are sorely mistaken.
If minimizing fan outcries is the main objective, then this is not going to do it: it'll just create another outcry of its own.

Personally the BSN is one of the bigger reasons I've stayed interested in BioWare's games. Other games may be more enjoyable or better than ME or DA, but I lose interest in them quickly because they don't have the community that BioWare's games have. There is a lot of nonsense on the BSN, but there are countless threads with dozens sometimes hundreds of pages that have added invaluable information and ideas to BioWare's games at least for me.
Same for me.
Ever since I found these forums I became more and more interested in Bioware's games, lore, characters and other products. I could find everything that interested me there and it's a shame that all these threads with theories, lore discussion and even devs feedback, will be shut down.
I'm not comfortable using facebook, twitter and I have no idea how to use blogs, so really, there's no way for Bioware to communicate with me outside these forums. It's a shame they don't care about fans like me. I'm sure there are more.
Now in order to talk about Bioware forums I will have to seek out other forums and register in several different places... Well, surely I don't have time for that, so maybe, MAYBE i'll just go wherever other Solas' fans will go (because the Solas thread was the nicest place I've ever seen on the internet).
But I have also visited other threads and posted there and I very much hoped I would find new threads to hang out once ME:Andromeda and new IP releases.
Sadly, good times are over.
I'm surprised and dissapointed with this decision.
I guess it will be better to just stop caring.

I just got rid of mine. I am tired of Twitter. I like long talks. But sadly it really does seem that by focusing on the young (not age as much as new to the games too if you take it both ways) ones who just play the games, it makes things easier for them. I do suspect that after playing the trilogies though if the newcomers will want to go deeper and can't now.

Not age as much as new to the games. As I said in another post give them a bit of time and they too will hunt for a place to discuss things. But it'll be gone.

Putting aside that I find their claim somewhat dubious in the first place, and playing devil's advocate for a moment: there is, strictly speaking, a difference between "not a monetary decision to close the forums" and "there's not point in continuing to pour money into a decision that was made for other reasons". For example, if I take a vacation, I might choose not to spend it on a road trip to the Rocky Mountains, despite having the money to do so. But if I'm not going to take a road trip, there's also no point in going and buying mountaineering gear.If it's not a monetary decision then why close it?

Somedays it may seem that way.
In reality, change is always possible, including that of corporate decisions.
But it takes alot of work and energy with no certain outcome of success.
Depends how bad people want it.
