Talking about forum iterations. I think I remember 4. The soon to be purged current one, the old BSN, and the blue old forums. Wasn't there one before that?

I was only around long enough to see the Social Network and then this site. I didn't know there were even more versions.

At least one, as I recall only lurking on the original boards to discover more on NWN1 in '98 or so. On the next forums, I became more vocal about NWN, and believe that may have been the blue forums; unconfirmed.

Doesn't mean I'm going to go quietly into the night.

giphy.gif

On those notes, guess I'll repost this from another closure thread, because why not?

BSN, huh? Words should have new meaning for all of us today... We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interest, and we will once again be fighting for our freedom - not from trolling, streamlining, or poor [REDACTED] - But from annihilation.

And should we win the day, the 26th of August will no longer be known as an American holiday (Women's Equality Day, who knew?), but as the day the forums declared in one voice:

We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish, without a fight! We're going to live on. We're going to survive. Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!

I had to redact one of the words my original post had to be safe, but I think you can all guess what it was

But crashing a parade with a Deathmobile probably wouldn't work. So don't do that. :D

Druid left. She joined bsn.boards but deleted everything shortly after. :(

I know, she created another account after this but deleted it again :(

"Rpgs" from triple A companies, sure. Never ignore Indie games. We had the awesome Divinity:OS and Pillars of Eternity

Big companies want more costumers because their only aim is to sell. Artistry and originality will be compromised. Meaning they will milk franchises, repeat formulas, dumb down gameplay etc. Support indie developers.

Like I said, there's been a resurgence of indie games in the style of old-school infinity engine isometric style RPGs so the people who like that type of game have something to fall back on. The problem is I'm not one of them. I was convinced to buy PoE despite the fact that I know I don't like this kind of game and unsurprisingly...I didn't like it. I played through 9 hours before I just stopped completely. I can see the merit there but it's just not for me. I don't want to experience the world as a distant and unchangeable matte painting, control tiny ants like a god from above. The distant camera and inability to see the faces or emotions of the people I was talking to during side quests was one of the things I absolutely hated about DA:I. If there are indie developers out there making games like Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 3, DA:O, etc...then sign me up.

I'm remembering Gandalf's goodbye speech from the RotK film. We had a good run, friends. The adventure will continue elsewhere, even though BioVer chose to nuke our Beleriand. Much will be lost, but we will survive, ready to tear MEA a new bunghole when it launches.

I remember trying to explain to people when Origins came out how it wasn't just a Tolkien rip-off. Sure there were humans, dwarves, and elves but the society they lived in was not like the one Tolkien presented. Well aprt from war and magic of course ;)

I also joined back around 2010, I think to get the stone prisoner, etc. for Origins on something of a throwaway email and didn't really want to dive into the forums that much so I could avoid spoilers since I was very into Origins at the time. Came back later to lurk n' read mostly, but I loved reading all the lore discussions and threads where everyone showed off their characters they made. This is also where I discovered Jade Empire, Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale which also became some of my favorite games... Man, I'm gonna miss this place...

Well, RIP forums. I didn't know that when I joined the BioBoards back in 2008 that I'd meet such wonderful friends that I'd talk to every day. I'm really grateful for the people I met from my interest in Mass Effect 1.

Though I quit being active in the public forums and have stuck to private groups for a few years, it's still sad to see. I've got a lot of very fond memories.

Thanks for this amazing experience. It's been real, be seeing you.

Thanks IB. Right back atcha. Man, this is getting pretty heavy. The clock is ticking.

Nothing else I can say that I haven't already paraphrased from someone else. The BSN is the best online community I've participated in. It changed the way I think about games, changed the way I participate in these fandoms. It's made me a better writer, and a better, more thoughtful critic. It's probably made me more sarcastic. Early on, it was a direct pipeline to folks who created the games I loved the most (they used to write back!).

Most importantly, it's filled with good people - many more than I can possibly shout out or kudos. Smart, passionate, funny fans who have kept me company through countless crap days at work and hundreds upon hundreds of diverting conversations - and arguments. Great arguments. I'm gonna miss that, and I'm gonna miss all of you. I haven't chosen a place to settle down yet, or even decided if I will participate regularly in any of them, but I'll be easy enough to to reach at all the most popular ones (I'm always a Servo). I hope our paths cross there and elsewhere.

I want address Bioware and EA just in case someone sees this to echo a common sentiment, one that bears repeating, and that is: your games aren't going to be the same without this place. The knowledge that I won't have the BSN when it hits has preemptively soured MEA for me. I know I'm not alone there. And when you inevitably open a new forum for a fresh start, that won't be the same, either. Partially because we're losing all those years of continuity when the whole thing goes offline, but mostly because of the circumstances of this closure, and the disgraceful manner in which it was communicated, combined with the neglectful and uneven oversight over the last couple of years. You could have saved this forum, and revitalized it. But you chose to trash it, and this isn't something you'll be able to walk back. You've done a terrible thing for your fans.

This forum closing soon makes me think BioWare won't last very long, and this makes me sad, even though I think they are way past their golden years and it's simply not the same company anymore.

Such a shame. I've seen too many forums I've been a part of change/alter/go away over the years.

But I guess thats part of the process. Join one, participate for years, leave and join another.

They'd probably be happy if they reversed it now;with less people here it'd be easier to control and fix. But they don't even come here anymore so nothing's being changed now.

When I said "depending" I meant whether they shut things off at midnight on the 25th (or earlier) or whether they shut it off at the end of the 26th. I'm guessing it will be close to midnight on the 25th.
