I would imagine it will be possible to use those features, I mean its still possible to view group content and search for blog posts and the like on the old social.bioware site. I don't see why this would be different. (Haha. I was just playing around and now I've created my first project on that site)

I hope so, but I think Conal said that that stuff would remain online indefinitely.

And I don't really feel like there's much cause for optimism right now, which is why I posed the question in the first place. I guess we'll find out soon enough, at any rate.

I sent Mr. Pierse a message regarding the seeming widespread desire for a "Farewell" thread in which to congregate and "go down with the ship". I explained the situation we are in, and why we hesitate to create such a thread. I don't know if he will see it or get to reply in time, but I wanted to try.

I think it would be a nice way to go, all the active posters gathered into a single thread as the lights go out. There's always the risk that it will be blighted with crap-posting, but I'm hoping that many have simply lost interest and won't bother with that.

If the "Farewell" thread idea doesn't work, I think this thread seems to be a suitable alternative place for a final stand.

Edit: I received an immediate reply. Thanks, Conal.

The sole, sanctioned "farewell thread" will be here: https://forum.biowar...farewell-to-bw/

It's been pinned, it seems, atop this subforum.

And to your credit, your posts have been quite positive and constructive, at least the ones I have seen and can recall. But some others have acted out in a way that will do little else than serve as evidence to support this closure, and that is a shame. Porn, profanity, spam, tantrums, etc do not do any good towards this thread or forum at all.

Are you trying to push political correctness onto people when they are participating in a forum based on video games full of political incorrectness?

The only PC agenda I have is the one I utilize to post here. Was unaware that good behavior was political; just correct ....

I have a sinking feeling that I won't ever find a game company that makes me feel quite the way I felt playing the games Bioware made in their prime either. Hope we're both wrong. And I don't know what I'd do with myself if I didn't play games either. I'm so boring ^_^

I've been thinking, I've spent so much time altering BioWare's stories in various ways in critique threads, sometimes changing the story into something completely unrecognizable...maybe it's time I wrote my own story? I don't know if it will take the form of a comic book, novel, or even an RPG maker game (lol) but it should keep me busy in place of the BioWare games I used to play and likely replace future Bethesda games as well (if FO4 is anything to go on).

Sigh.

"Sanctioned." It's a nice gesture, of course - but this is all just a little bit soulless and depressing, knowing the fate of so many sincere, heartfelt, relevant goodbye threads from the last couple of days.

Part of me echoes LPPrince's sentiment about how great it would be to see a few old, familiar faces here at the end. The other part of me is pretty convinced that their absence, especially now, tells us all we need to know about what they think of us.

I've been saying goodbye in this thread for the past couple of weeks, and offered up all I can in support of this fine community. The BSN has been a daily refuge for more than six years, and I'll see it through to the end right here. Hopefully, I'll be present and able to offer a few more words when the lights go off permanently.

I'm not going to post anything there, only out of respect to the fans who still care. As of right now, still no e-mail notifications went out to the forum users, and I'm in brutal honesty mode because of that.

I've tried to make a post in the farewell thread. But it is just not me to do something like that. Besides, it's not like I am disappearing from the face of the Earth. I've just moved to another part of the internet and I'm happy that I found a nice RPG forum that allows me to have fun playing games and posting about them.

What was I'm going to say in that thread? Many people on my large FL already left the forums a while ago. These BW advocates turned their back to the company in waves after each BW blunder: DA2, the ME3 ending, the closing of the OT forums, etc.

They were smarter than me. They believed that BW had died already, while I was still hoping they would recover.

Then there are the Great Posters. They'll keep on posting, but not here. Too bad that they're scattered among several forums now. But most of them are within reach.

Finally there are the BW employees. Some of the great ones were/are on my FL. BW used to have many of these people and gave it a personality. Now? BW is what EA made it: A label, which is merely registered trademark used to improve the image of EA. The personality has gone. Their loyalty to their fans has gone. BW/EA is only loyal to their stockholders. That's OK. I understand how corporations work. But when the human touch is gone then it is time to leave.

So, in the mean time, I'll keep posting here until the end. And maybe some of the old posters who haven't heard the news yet will show up. BW intentionally didn't inform the forum community by e-mail. They didn't want to wake up sleeping dogs, I guess. I don't have words for that behavior.

I wasn't able to really express how I really felt about the forums closing, but with the days winding down I figured I better get it out of the way. The BSN has really helped me gain confidence in communicating my opinions no matter how unpopular they are. The people on this site even though I disagreed them had me engaged in good thoughtful arguments. Sure the BSN had it's odd moments as people from Reddit or RPGCodex would constantly tell you, but it also had a tightknit and loyal community. You guys gave me a warm welcome and again we may have our disagreements, but because of you I found a community which I could interact and feel good about compared to all the other forums I've been in.

Shutting down the forums and purging them 2 months later is a horrible mistake by Bioware/EA. It looks like I won't be getting Adrodema if the rumors regarding their reasons shutting down the forums are true. But on a positive note I thank you again for the good times I had the forums, hopefully we'll meet again whether on the other forums that was presented in other thread or not. I wish you luck in life!

I started the "farewell thread" because I felt like it was the last chance I got to say something meaningful - since I'm not into social media at all. I'm sorry to hear that previous such threads were closed.

I understand feeling upset, but I don't think being angry will help. It is my opinion that we should face what's to come with dignity, and show that we can be above vitriol. Show that this is the community that was *worth keeping*.

(I'm way too upfront about my feelings today, ahaha...)

I'm disappointed because they've never had to look far here for people and things that show we're worth keeping. And knowing that, I don't know why they'd start looking now.

I am posting without vitriol today. This has been a stupid month. I wrote some very angry posts last night, experienced a (brief but clarifying) dark night of the soul, and deleted them immediately, because it's always taken two to tango. It's easier than I thought.

I have seen twitter posts where the posters actively pray for cancer to kill one of my favorite Youtubers.  Hundreds of them.  I have seen YouTube comment sections that advocate raping the woman making the video.  I have seen Reddit pages that are actively abusing entire groups of people.  So yeah, I would say that other places are every bit as bad as your making this place out to be.

Well... Thanks for reminding me why I liked this place  It really is so much less... terrible than so many other places on the internet. I feel safe here. Don't know how anyone can think this place is "toxic" (ugh). Have they ever been on the internet?

Everyone has limits...

Oh, no, don't you understand? Fans shouldn't have limits. They should just accept whatever Bioware throws at them, regardless of how callous, regardless of how stupid, regardless of how many times they've done similar things in the past. They shouldn't show their feelings and shouldn't try to fight back. Just saying that you disagree but you're still a fan is okay, but anything more, something like politely formulating expansive posts detailing all of the disadvantages of this closure? Heresy. That kind of thing is obviously throwing a tantrum and spamming.

According to Elhanan

Well, I'm surprised. I didn't think he'd even reply after ignoring my message to him. Well done in making that happen, although it's sad that someone had to ask in the first place, and sad that so many other goodbyes are now lost. Not just sad. Pathetic, actually.

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to sound like I blame anyone. As I said, people have every right to be upset.

And I realize that this won't change much, if anything - it's just that I think it's better to be above. To "go out with style". But that's just my opinion.

I hope you'll feel better though - you're not alone.

It's all good. For what it's worth, it occurs to me that I might have come across as implying your thread was not heartfelt, sincere, and relevant. Which was not my intention either, obviously. So I hope you didn't get that from it.

To the ones talking about giving up on gaming: don't.

Follow the people that worked for BioWare and were involved in your favorite games. They moved on to other companies and are still working. Also, avoid LIKE THE PLAGUE those involved in the games that ruined your favorite franchises (in my case, basically everyone that worked in DAI)...

It's quite alright! I wasn't offended at all. Even if the post did imply that - well, everyone has a right to their opinion. And people are stressed out by the issue. So I wouldn't hold it against you anyway.

... I'm disappointed because they've never had to look far here for people and things that show we're worth keeping. ...

This is true and actually, the response of the community in a 'down period' between games is pretty much amazing:

  • 8 forums were created, extended or spruced up, most successfully.
  • Hundreds of people joined forums (some several times over), even BioWare devs have been seen lurking.
  • Many thousands of posts have been scraped and thousands of posts have been posted anew.
  • The community were invited to head off to Twitter and Reddit, but in the main they've stood up for the long-form forum concept.
  • The community is as united and 'together' as I've seen it in ages.

Four weeks ago, none of this was expected or announced.

Few of us welcomed the news, but the effort to keep that which is good, has been pretty remarkable.

My approach has been to maintain a stiff-upper-lip, while venting my displeasure and making my contempt for this decision and those responsible clear, through various degrees of sardonic, sarcastic and scathing remarks.

So in other words, been far more British than usual for the past month.

I don't do goodbyes and I haven't been active here long enough to feel the full weight of this closing but I'm truly sad for those that have spent many years here, made lasting memories, connections and personal triumphs with the help of this place. I like to loaf about and will continue to do so on the lifeboats for however long I feel; ride out the storm and see where everything lands. Some will mark their end here, others will carry on.

So for me it's not goodbye, just "See you later, cowboy..."
