How much more do we have?
Two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.

This is true and actually, the response of the community in a 'down period' between games is pretty much amazing:
Four weeks ago, none of this was expected or announced.
- 8 forums were created, extended or spruced up, most successfully.
- Hundreds of people joined forums (some several times over), even BioWare devs have been seen lurking.
- Many thousands of posts have been scraped and thousands of posts have been posted anew.
- The community were invited to head off to Twitter and Reddit, but in the main they've stood up for the long-form forum concept.
- The community is as united and 'together' as I've seen it in ages.
Few of us welcomed the news, but the effort to keep that which is good, has been pretty remarkable.
This has been incredibly impressive to me, and has really always been what impressed me about the BioWare Forums. I could come here at any time, any day of the year, and find hundreds of people online actively discussing the active IPs. The Legacy forums are also active. I think this is impressive, and something of which BioWare should be proud; but alas...
The work some have done to offer some continuity and preserve what we've created here has been amazing.
The way the community rallied behind those who stepped up and offered alternatives to the BioWare Forum is also impressive.
Also, as you said, all of this has happened in the "down season" between games and between announcements. Thousands are clueless about present events. The response would be even more impressive if more people knew what is happening.
Lastly, you mentioned that some of the devs have dropped in on the new forums. I think it's important that some of the more bitter posters remember that it's not "BioWare" the individuals killing your forums, it's BioWare the company. Many of the guys making your games may be bummed out that you're losing your forum. Boycotting the next game, something I've seen suggested in other less calm threads, is pretty foolish.
Good post. It really summed up a lot of the good that I've long appreciated about this place: its passion and love for BioWare's games, sometimes in spite of BioWare.

What's sad is that they're going to erase this forum, not even leaving as an archive or something.
So many tips, guides, questions and such are here for years now. This is completely unfair to the community, you know, the people that bought and (some) that will buy your games. I didn't think my opinion about this company could get worse than it was, but there you go.
No goodbyes to you EAware. I would say goodbye though to the people that created my favorite games ever, but you know, they left the company. Good riddance to you.
I will continue to discuss the masterpieces you used to make on the bsn forums.

I'm not even sure it's BioWare the Company's decision; I'd be willing to bet it's an EA decision.

The letters C, D, H, I and K probably contributed something to the insane decision as well... as long as we're speculating?

Same difference.
Bioware is not a company, and hasn't been for years.
It's Bioware: A Division of EA.

I really don't want Bioware to go the same way as Maxis did under EA, but the use of the word "Division" seems very appropriate.

Wow, I come back to the Bioware Forums after a long vacation (that actually included a genuine vacation by train to Vancouver, good times), and the place is shutting down? That really sucks. The archive purge is the worst thing of all, and to be frank, it's actually quite offensive. Yeah, not every post was great (I certainly won't miss the Warden-bashing) but between the sense of community, the awesome discussions and the valuable tips and resources for new players, there's a lot to love about these forums, and it's worth preserving. If EA/Bioware, a multi-million dollar company with numerous best-selling IPs at its fingertips, can't spare the cost of maintaining a server to archive everything, then maybe they're not doing as well as I thought.
It all just seems spiteful, you know? Like EA can't resist going scorched-earth in open contempt of their fans and in blatant disregard for any notion of consumer loyalty. This isn't the way to make friends, build up a fanbase, or generally act like the professionals you're supposed to be, Bioware. You're supposed to be better than this.

To the ones talking about giving up on gaming: don't.
Follow the people that worked for BioWare and were involved in your favorite games. They moved on to other companies and are still working. Also, avoid LIKE THE PLAGUE those involved in the games that ruined your favorite franchises (in my case, basically everyone that worked in DAI)...
Many of the people that worked on the games I like have turned away from games and switched to writing books, retirement, game styles I don't like, etc...and some are still with BioWare but I feel are outnumbered by those making aspects I don't like (as well as being told by EA what they are and aren't allowed to do). Anyway the only game company left that is proven to make games I like is Telltale but since their games are so short it's not something I can keep busy with for a significant amount of time like I would with a regular RPG. CD projeckt blew me away with TW3 so I will buy the next game they make no question but the only other game I've played by them is TW2 which was good but not amazing IMO and I prefer a game where I can create my own character or at least heavily shape their personality. I feel like a lot of the games I play have a very high ratio of "meh" or even "I actively dislike this" to things I really enjoy and the "things I enjoy" part keeps getting smaller and smaller to where I'm just sitting here like "why am I even playing this?" I used to love Bethesda as well but Fallout 4 has made me very cautious of future games and I won't buy their next game day 1 with no information but I do think they deserve another chance since only Fallout 4 was disappointing to me. BioWare on the other hand went from my absolute favorite, buy every game day 1, buy all DLC and products to not even worth borrowing from a friend. I mean if there are games out there similar to KotOR, SWtOR's class stories, Jade Empire, DA:O, ME1, ME2, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas
, etc...I would love to find them. It seems like whenever I get close to finding something with elements I like (roleplaying, story, choice, companions/characters, moral decisions, lore, etc...) it's always coupled with elements I hate like the distant isometric camera, click to move, and a tedious combat system.
I have to face the facts, my heyday came and went and the games I love are no longer being made or asked for.
I Think we should not give up surely if bioware sees the fans love For the forums and how much of a big response to the closure is they may reconsider
Even if they were reading this (which they're not) they're not going to change their minds. They don't care that fans love the forums and they don't want another DA2 or ME3 kerfuffle which will be much easier to contain on limited sites like twitter/facebook/etc...
Like how they reconsidered the delicious cupcakes?
I don't know about you, but they did eat MY cupcakes!
(the ones some of us sent before DA:I came out in thanks for using the female inquisitor in some of the marketing)

We're lucky to have a community that does care. There is a forum which preserves the BSN forums. So, at least not all is lost. Follow the link in my signature.

BioWare may go under some day but not for a while yet imo. I can't speak to Maxis but I know Pandemic was bleeding profusely and crawling to the nearest hospital even before being bought by EA.

I'm not angry, I'm disappointed.
[/dad]
I'm disappointed because they've never had to look far here for people and things that show we're worth keeping. And knowing that, I don't know why they'd start looking now.
I am posting without vitriol today. This has been a stupid month. I wrote some very angry posts last night, experienced a (brief but clarifying) dark night of the soul, and deleted them immediately, because it's always taken two to tango. It's easier than I thought.
Well I'm angry and disappointed!
Has no one used this yet to say goodbye?

My one last hommage to BSN... and to ME and DA... I'm gonna miss this place so much. I understand but gonna miss it. Shepard through everything. I'm simply sad and grieving. That's about it. This was the only forum or social network that I was following and where I was posting. I just hate the fact that soon, very soon, this place will be gone. I love BSN and I'm going to miss it.

Current Bioware doesn't deserve its own fanbase...
Sometimes withdrawing your wallet is the only way to make your voice heard...or just totally forgetting about said company and its games and going and doing something else, which those bummed out guys you mention should consider doing anyway.
