This is true and actually, the response of the community in a 'down period' between games is pretty much amazing:
- 8 forums were created, extended or spruced up, most successfully.
- Hundreds of people joined forums (some several times over), even BioWare devs have been seen lurking.
- Many thousands of posts have been scraped and thousands of posts have been posted anew.
- The community were invited to head off to Twitter and Reddit, but in the main they've stood up for the long-form forum concept.
- The community is as united and 'together' as I've seen it in ages.
Four weeks ago, none of this was expected or announced.
Few of us welcomed the news, but the effort to keep that which is good, has been pretty remarkable.
*Clears throat*
Always good to have an extinction-level event every so often! Gives people perspective. Reveals what's really important. I'm also very impressed with the community's tenacity, especially given the low number of active users during this summer compared to normal.
"You know, one good thing about the Blight is how it brings people together."
But... it's still an extinction-level event
I don't know about you, but they did eat MY cupcakes!
(the ones some of us sent before DA:I came out in thanks for using the female inquisitor in some of the marketing)
Really? I was on break from the forums before DA:I, I never heard about that.
Well, since they're so keen on us using twitter... You did a lot better than me (partly because it was the DA team if I had to guess) - I tweeted some of the higher-ups on ME:A and asked whether the female protagonist would be shown equally in promotional material. Ignored. Clearly, I was being toxic or something. Asking questions like that, to a progressive developer? Preposterous. I wasn't actively praising them, so obviously I deserved to be ignored (not to mention I wasn't actively bashing them, either, just asking a neutral question).
I find it hilarious there were people at Bioware who strongly disliked the criticism to the ME3 endings when one guy alone detected no short than TWENTY problematic things in the game. All of them well-explained and presented with rational arguments.
Did Bioware even bother to watch feedback such as this to learn from it?

Anyone remember the original IT video? The one that Avocados (I know that wasn't it
) guy made? *sigh* The fans probably ended up making a better ending than Bioware ever did.
I don't think they're *that* thin-skinned. I think they're just tired of dealing with the constant drama and the reputation that comes along with it, and it's reached a point where the costs outweigh the benefits.
Tell that to every other game forum. And I don't believe for a second that the costs outweigh the benefits of this place. Definitely not in the long-term.
I was deeply dissatisfied by ME3, but even I couldn't handle the year of bad vibes that followed on these forums. I can't imagine how badly I'd have felt had I been part of the team that built the game. My whole work trashed because of a 10-min ending? (We all know that's what happened. Other issues would be been received and discussed more calmly.) Ugh. Disheartening. I'd have fled this place just as they did.
I understand it (I was part of it too, after all). They were the most important 10 minutes of the trilogy. A trilogy that spanned 100+ hours easily, where you'd grow attached to the characters and the world. For many people, they'd grown attached over years. To have all of that investment, just... well, it was one heck of a gut-punch, that's for sure.
I'm not really trying to argue with you about anything, just thinking "outloud".
Yup. But in the end, it turned out to be us, the fans, who have helped each other out by extending invitations to alternative forums. So, no help from Bioware, but plenty of solidarity being displayed around.
Tomorrow is the big day. Is everyone ready?
As ready as I'm going to be, I think. Which is to say: Not really, no.
I feel a bit like I did when I watched this a year ago.

The gang's all here, and we'll fight together, one last time.
It's that last part, of course, that gets me
