I think what could help a lot is a general "announcement" post advising people as to where their "farewells" need to be posted. We know where they are expected to go because we interacted directly with Conal in making the safe zone happen, and have been loitering about in this subforum for days. Others have no idea, and post wherever they think best. Then, they get closed or deleted. It's tough.

I confess I was never a great fan of Bioware back in what many consider their big glory days of Baldur's Gate II, mainly I confess because I could never get past that first fecking monster. To this day I can't do it.

It's frustrating because people carved niches for themselves here. They want to say goodbye to the people they interacted with most frequently in the places they spent the most time. Not some random thread on a board they've never visited. That's why all these goodbye posts are on topic and relevant, and why they really shouldn't be summarily locking them.

I believe the first time I'd ever even visited the Forum/Help board was for this very thread.

I have to say that for me cliging this forum is also a summarise of my life- I have been Bioware fan since Baldur's Gate 1. Oh my god! People don't live so long!

What's this about people being banned and threads and posts being deleted? I mean, I've yet to see someone to go truly overboard, and the forums are closing anyway... why would you say that you don't want to moderate this forum and then start doing just that when it's already too late and not really needed? *sigh*

They outsourced to moderation of the forum to a company called the ModSquad.

It would seem to me that this company has become so aggressive in moderation since the closure announcement because they need to present a false image that they had been doing their job to potential clients in the future.

The sad thing is that if they had been doing their job from the start, they wouldn't need to create a false impression and the forum likely would not be closing.

You escape from your, what looks like a, birdcage, steal your equipment back from the sleeping jailer and head out the door at the top left. A short walk through the cave brings you to a monster. That sod kills me every single time.

Perhaps I could cheat my way past it but after nearly 20 years that seems like giving in.

I think I'm actually going to miss this place. A bit like selling off your grandparents property after the place burned down and everything else fell into disrepair. All that you loved about it is gone, but the memories remain.

I already wrote what I thought about this decision soon after the anouncement. But anyway, since there are roughly 24h left I want to say thank you to Bioware for the amazing games they did and the countless hours I spent in their worlds. These forums were part of that world they created, without it, their games won't be the same. I hope them the best, however I won't be buying their games and DLCs at release day as I've been doing since DAO, I will do what I do with other companies, wait for a discount. Without a forum there is no risk of spoilers, so no need to play quick.

 

I want to also thanks the fans that are trying to rebuild the community in fan made forums, especially Fexelea for archiving all the knowledge that, otherwise, will be lost forever. However I don't think I'll be joining any of the new forums, at least not for now, I might change my mind. Still it is good to have a place to come back.

 

This is my last post here, I'll leave this place with an omen of the things to come, this is my post 404 .

Alternately - assuming this really was someone's endgame - had they been this enthusiastic from the start of their contract, they'd have saved themselves a whole lot of work this month. Much easier to destroy a community gradually over time than all at once.
