You listen to your players.
Why aren't you listening to us?
C'mon people, help me out there. His avatar was DA2 PC with pale skin and a beard.
There were even "Make x a squadmate in DA3."
Navoletti?
So can you at least explain why weren't the devs spending time on their own forums? How is Twitter or Reddit or Facebook better than BSN? How can it be easier to get fan feedback from multiple 3rd party sites?
Our developers are not spokespeople, and for those that choose to interact with fans (which a great many do) we want them to be able to do so in a way that makes sense for them. For some, they like meeting people face to face. For others it's Twitter, or NeoGaf, or Twitch, or any number of other sites.
We respect the rights of both our developers and our fans to use social spaces in ways that are right for them.
While once our forums were the sole direct line we had to our players, that has become increasingly untrue over the years. And as these conversations moved elsewhere, it was an increasing disservice to those who came here to reach us.
It's never easy or simple to collect feedback from our players, which is why we go to great lengths to do it. We have teams of people like me who actively scour the web looking for what people are saying. Through many, many different avenues we gain an appreciation for what our players are saying as a whole, as well as what different groups and individuals are saying.
This may not always be publicly visible, but it is something that we actively work on behind the scenes.
Priestly, the guy who shut down the romance forum and banned IT threads, is in favor of allowing BW to shut down the forums? What a shock!
The real hilarity is in these guys' being so happy to see the guy whose laziness put the forum on this path to begin with. This is the guy who first began shutting down forums because it was too much effort to moderate them.
BTW guys, you're not going to convince them to change their course. They refused to budge on the ME3 ending and they were making the evening news with the backlash on that. BW doesn't change their mind on things. Hoping that they'll see the error of their ways is setting yourselves up for disappointment.

So your answer to that disservice is to cause an even bigger disservice to those fans who come here for each other?
Who was that guy whose grammar was awful and he had this catchprase...
Gmagnum?
I still find myself wondering whatever happened to Stanley Woo.
He left Bioware years ago. I don't remember the reason, but he did publicly stated why he left.
Gmagum?
****, I can't remember.
I think his catchphrase was "tbh" Like he would say stuff "Mranad (Miranda) nd Lira sould show some ****** tbh"

What about this? Who remembers this?

Well, I won't be able to enjoy these games as much as I once did, because I will have no place where I can discuss the games in depth with other fans.
This is a wrong decision. If you care about your fans and respect them then do not close the forum.
Maybe Tumblr really is the place for me, because I literally cannot even right now.
The gmagnum x selene moonsong saga was one of the best things to happen to the BSN imo.
Gmagnum?
That blunt fella?
Bringing him up again and disturbing my peace of mind?
OMG dats hella rude tbh.
Hehe, that guy was gold.

I hate you for reminding me of that guy.
I lost all of my private messages when he spammed me with 100 plus spammed messages, because before it automatically deleted your messages once you reached 100 limit.
There's always gamefaqs, they actually discuss game mechanics there, none of this focus on romance creepdom or people acting like they're fighting for real life social issues against a surrogate klan(the templars).
Yeah GameFAQs is so reliable... You see what you want to see bud. I don't read irrelevant things, but i do read a lot about game tips, sharing gripes, learning other perspectives I had not considered, revisit parts of game stories i miss, try to find answers to questions that are not answered sans manual/tutorials, ask for fixes and future considerations in following games on a site BIOWARE SHOULD BE READING.
To me this is an abdication of responsibility to their customers. Yeah, it's hard hearing people didn't like parts of your effort, but how are you EVER going to do better by ignoring the critical points?
He left Bioware years ago. I don't remember the reason, but he did publicly stated why he left.
I know that, I wondered what happened after that.
(People do still exist, after leaving the company).

FEAR MAN GIRAFFEDOG!
@CP: Still not a single genuine reason, deducting the contradictions, as to why this forum needs to be shut down to archieve what you are working towards.
If you can't share I understand. If you are dancing around the simple fact that the forum isn't worthwhile for BioWare to maintain, that's not working.
I know that, I wondered what happened after that.

No, he just seized to exist. His entire existence was to work for Bioware. Once he stopped working for them, he was wiped out of existence as otherwise universe would have exploded in new Bing Bang.
Yeah GameFAQs is so reliable...
GameFAQs is one of the worst communities this side of tumblr. It's full of hardcore Nintendrones that... okay, a few years ago they had a big character battle. Single elimination voting thing, whole bunch of gaming characters and every day people can vote on a different match. Link pretty much always wins them. Well this time, Reddit decided to rally on a LoL character. What followed truly defies description. The GameFAQs' reaction made the backlash at ME3's ending look tame. I saw people literally threatening to kill the site admin's wife and daughter if he didn't reverse the decision and give it to Link.
I've seen a lot of crazy things in my 23 years on the Internet, but that was definitely in the top ten. GameFAQs is tumblr tier. And not the reasonable side of tumblr, the pro-genocide side of tumblr.
The final nail in the coffin of the once great Bioware who made their fans their number one concern. Now only the stockholders matter and doing whatever they can to curb any criticism of their products.
What is so heartbreaking about this, is that MOST of the people here are here because they love and support BW games. They are BW's number one fans and those who do free advertising and promotion for them every time they post. But so many people here have developed friendships and relationships that simply can't exist on other media. Our love for these games is what brought us here. It's a sad, sad day as I know how many people feel both betrayed and trivialised for all the support they have given BW over the years, in the good times and the bad. And this is how we are shown appreciation? Shameful.

Hi Conal.
Have read and re-read all your posts.
Looks like the main public reason for the forums shutting down is the part left above after snipping.
If this is the case,
wouldn't one post on the forums suffice that clarifies that this a fan discussion site to enable diverse and in depth conversations and that devs are best reached through other online means?
This is the accepted practice around here already. And most newbies are quickly told that in the forums.
As just one opinion (but a passionate one), It seems a greater disservice to let this forum, the in depth discussion possibilities and all the information in it disappear forever.
Citing a minor offense from years back isn't an argument
Its less citing the minor offense and just pointing out the general mindset of the type of people who support this move from BW.
