"So long. Don't let the door hit your asses on the way out"
Why not just shut them down right away like you did to the OT forums and show people just how important we really are to you? ![]()

I've seen a lot of crazy things in my 23 years on the Internet, but that was definitely in the top ten. GameFAQs is tumblr tier. And not the reasonable side of tumblr, the pro-genocide side of tumblr.
I didn't know there was a reasonable side of tumblr.
I don't understand that reasoning in bolded at all. (Thanks for clarifying the first part.)
...
I think most of us can agree the rationale posted so far for shutting this down seems "inconsistent etc"
A decision was made to shut down those forums - then it was decided to present the fact as something that is obviously, patently, nonsensical - alright, let's be lenient - paradoxical. Yet everyone picked up on the inconsistencies fairly quickly. But the brave soldier that is... (I forget his/her handle now) kept repeating what most of us had already determined to be a pile of s.... That is insulting - hence my original friendly suggestion.
Its less citing the minor offense and just pointing out the general mindset of the type of people who support this move from BW.
The deed is done, honey. Leave it be.
Our developers are not spokespeople, and for those that choose to interact with fans (which a great many do) we want them to be able to do so in a way that makes sense for them. For some, they like meeting people face to face. For others it's Twitter, or NeoGaf, or Twitch, or any number of other sites.
We respect the rights of both our developers and our fans to use social spaces in ways that are right for them.
While once our forums were the sole direct line we had to our players, that has become increasingly untrue over the years. And as these conversations moved elsewhere, it was an increasing disservice to those who came here to reach us.
It's never easy or simple to collect feedback from our players, which is why we go to great lengths to do it. We have teams of people like me who actively scour the web looking for what people are saying. Through many, many different avenues we gain an appreciation for what our players are saying as a whole, as well as what different groups and individuals are saying.
This may not always be publicly visible, but it is something that we actively work on behind the scenes.
But you're eliminating one of those avenues of player feedback, scattering these fans around the internet. And yes, there WILL be some, like myself, who won't be offering any feedback because I don't bother with most of that social media stuff. The BSN was a home for me in the DA community, and now I will have none.
Also, it's clear that this forum has existed for the past couple of years with very minimal developer response, yet people still continue to come here and post. The vast majority are fans wanting to discuss these franchises with other fans, regardless of the developer presence. Clearly that discussion was valued and important to these fans, above and beyond whatever input a developer may offer. Many topics aren't even something that needed developer input.
This is a general reminder to please be civil to your fellow posters. Personal insults and attacks are a violation of the site rules and will not be tolerated.
What are you going to do? Ban us from a site that is closing in less than a month anyways? ANYTHING BUT THAT!

If only there was some sort of centralized location where players could leave their opinions and thoughts and give feedback to your games. Somewhere you could foster discussion in a forum-type setting with some of your most ardent fans who would be unafraid to praise a game or point out its weaknesses.
Oh well, maybe there's something on Tumblr.
BSN : *Removes core features*
Users : It seems like you guys are preparing for a close because you can't handle running this thing.
BSN : "lol you wild these are just improvments, wyd tho?"
BSN : *Removes busiest board*
Users : "See what we are saying? I don't think you guys wanna run this thing anymore"
BSN : "lol off topic was mad toxic my dude. We just wanna concentrate on Bioware opics"
BSN : * Closing down forums in the future*
Users : "See what we were saying??!"
BSN : "lol why you so dramatic dude. These things happen"

I would really hope to see Conal or another Bioware employee respond to this post.
I'll say it again: this is a stupid a** idea. And I cannot begin to understand what was going on the head of whoever thought this was a good thing to do and all the others that agreed on.
Which other Videogame Company out there closes their own forums??! Like, is Bioware as a whole closing its doors or what? is going to be bought by EA again? wth is going on?
Where are we supposed to report bugs? Are we supposed to get a "ticket" now and wait 2 weeks for a response just as Rockstar run their show?
Where are we supposed to give you feedback? How do we know if you are listening if it's not in your oficial forums?! Do you really expect us to believe you creep about the internet searching for random threads about ME/DA and that's how you listen your fans?
Twitter/Facebook/Other social medias are a joke. Reddit feels weird to me. They're not forums to discuss about your games with other fans and people who enjoy those games as much as I do. Most of us were quite comfy here...
Honestly your explanation about the why you're closing the forums sounds nonsense to me. The only reason I can see this happening is if you either are moving everything to a new site/whatever or as I said above, you're closing your doors for good.
If only there was some sort of centralized location where players could leave their opinions and thoughts and give feedback to your games. What a crazy idea.
Well I'd rather that someone not p*** on my leg and tell me it's raining but I respect the difficult position employees can be put in. We know the given reason is not the real reason and we probably won't be able to deduce the real reason until some time in the future.
For all the talk about how "toxic" it is here I have to say that this was the first place I felt comfortable jumping into the conversation after I started playing Mass Effect. I'm someone that would be described as a sjw by some members here and even I find tumblr to be an awful place for discussion and new fans trying to find their footing. I have a twitter to follow news but I don't have followers so tweeting would be the same as shouting into the void. Using reddit can be confusing as all hell for a newbie and there is very little meaningful discussion, at least on the ME sub-reddit.
What are you going to do? Ban us from a site that is closing in less than a month anyways? ANYTHING BUT THAT!
No, I am going to ask you politely to be civil and respectful of others. Threat of banning or the closing of the forums should not weigh in your decision to be respectful of your fellow human beings.
You have every right to be upset by this decision, and I won't tell you how to feel or express yourself. But I kindly ask that you not be disrespectful or take things out on others.

Not just "one of those avenues" But for many people it's the only viable avenue they have.
Because contrary to the modern stereotype, not everyone is plugged in to a bunch of social media outlets. I for one don't use Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr, and barely use Facebook. And I'm certainly not wealthy enough to go flying out to various cons. I am not unique in this. It doesn't sound like Bioware is trying to make it easier to gather feedback, more like they're trying to gather the right kinds of feedback.
If the forum has become only one of several avenues to get feedback, and is one that is being neglect, then how does kicking it to the curb completely "doing right" by us?
GameFAQs is one of the worst communities this side of tumblr. It's full of hardcore Nintendrones that... okay, a few years ago they had a big character battle. Single elimination voting thing, whole bunch of gaming characters and every day people can vote on a different match. Link pretty much always wins them. Well this time, Reddit decided to rally on a LoL character. What followed truly defies description. The GameFAQs' reaction made the backlash at ME3's ending look tame. I saw people literally threatening to kill the site admin's wife and daughter if he didn't reverse the decision and give it to Link.

da fuq?
I suppose from BioWare's perspective only, "this isn't serving its purpose to us anymore" is a decent enough reason to close it.
That does imply you see no value in the community existing just for the sake of it even without your input, and that it's not worth the maintenance cost, and that you still collectively somewhat begrudge how sour the place has gotten hence the original dev flight from this place years ago, which caused it to no longer serve its purpose to you.
But ultimately yeah, it's your prerogative dog.
This sounds like a perfect summation of the situation.

I've not been disrespectful of anyone. If accurately relaying things certain members of this forum have done in the past is construed as disrespectful maybe they should take a look at themselves.

This. Exactly this.
It also encouraged discussion of minor or less developed characters or pieces of the game. It gave people that were fans of these things a place to congregate safely. It's really hard to do in other places and you're scattering it to the winds. So while one might go to NeoGaf, another might go to Twitter and never the twain shall meet. You are splintering the community. You have a hub here that allowed for a jumping off point for people but then also a place to come back to. If it's not for money, why delete it?
