Don't post here that often anymore, but I do lurk a lot. Gonna miss everyone and everything.

Bioware are spinning some real **** with the "you can keep connected through other social networks" - no, we can't. Do they honestly think anyone used these forums to keep connected with the devs? No, we stopped doing that even before ME3 came out. Even more annoying is that they have the cheek to say something like "you can still go to conventions", erm, no I can't; I live in England and can't afford to go to any big cons to meet devs and other fans.

I don't think even they believe that but they had to give a reason and that's the one they ran with.

What I will miss most funny enough is this thread:

https://forum.biowar...hots-go-to-die/

I went through 4 deaths a year ago and was a mess and I found this thread and it helped me laugh again. Best pics ever!

It's easy to guess BSN's response to any Bioware-related update: it's negative.  After you've read a blog post, think of the worst possible spin that could be put on the contents, and you've got the basics of BSN's feelings on it.

I didn't find it that bad lol I actually liked to take the bad and make it positive but what mattered to me was the feedback was real and not marketed and not everyone was negative.

Poppycock!

So much for community spirit. WE are the community, not the staff. WE are the discussions and opinions, not the devs.

Disappointed.

I feel quite disgusted and betrayed. I wasn't expecting something like that. I was hoping for some serious moderation, not closing the forums!!! What game company dosen't have an official forum? BioWare says they care for the fan, but is clear it isn't true, or they would not close the principal place on the net where fans of all the world can talk with others fan about the game.

It doesn't make sense. Facebook and twitter can't give us what the forum give. A base for the community.

And of course only now moderators start to do something, closing troll treads? I'm really, really disgusted. This will kill the community. Maybe not now, maybe it will be a slow death, but there will not be the same thing.

A slap in the face for all the fan that have stayed even when BioWare let them down. Disgusting.

This is probably the worst piece of creative writing I've seen from Bioware since the "Aerie's baby" monstrosity in Baldur's Gate: Throne of Bhaal, and that's only just barely.

TThis is a place with a rich history where a lot of bonds were formed and a lot of great discussion was had.  Such a senseless end is unbefitting.

Agreed. Granted, plenty of people here I either won't care to see go or will be glad to see go, but there are a few who I do actually like talking to, who either aren't other social media or aren't on the same gaming platforms that I am, so I won't be able to communicate with them anymore.

They're being defeatist and painting themselves as the stressed out victims, when in reality they're just giving up while simultaneously screwing over their own fans.  Giving up is giving up.  It's pathetic.

P.S. Thank you for solidifying my choice to not support Andromeda, Bioware.  I cleanse my hands of this filth for good.

You kind of missed my point there.

I can't help, but that's what I see right now.

Same. I'm sorry, but you can't have a decent discussion about the lore or what other fans think on twitter or tumblr or reddit. They're not designed that way. They're designed for brief remarks, upvoted comments getting more attention regardless of content, and - for the most part - one on one discussions. There's no GROUP atmosphere. What's the solution? There is NOWHERE like the BSN for fans to gather in one place to discuss DA.

Why can't you just rebrand the forums and bump them off to someone else? Please, please, please?

GoFundMe for the server costs of a new forum, perhaps? I'm sure plenty would be willing to pay to keep a central location for Bioware discussion afloat.

I've a lot of people on my FL that I'm gonna miss. Not all are active in between releases. But I'll try to contact them.

The good part is that I'll get rid of the many trolls of this forum. I don't consider them to be scapegoats, but they sure didn't improve the atmosphere around here.

Well said.  These forums have been home to a lot of good communities.  I remember back in the DA2 days being part of a small clique of anti-templar posters.  It was a great experience even if the forum did have a lot of trolling.  And the IT community, good god.  Bioware kicked us to the curb years ago, but that's the best community I've ever been a part of.  Made some of the best friends I've had in my life.  I ended up buying one of those $400 Reaper statuettes as a memento (and I am NOT a wealthy man) just because I want something to look at 20 years down the line and remember the awesome community and the impact it had on my life.  And I'm sure I'm not alone.  Hell, I remember a couple of people who were part of the original thread ended up getting married.  Spouses met each other in the community.

This is the first time I've actually been back on here since Priestly banned the topic, and I don't have much love for the community that mostly spat at us as we got the treatment everyone is getting now, but I'm still sad to see this happen.  This is a place with a rich history where a lot of bonds were formed and a lot of great discussion was had.  Such a senseless end is unbefitting.

I found the forums because of Mass Effect. I've made friends who I still know to this day. I remember the amazing days following ME2 and the wild speculation of ME3. Then the utter disappointment and disenfranchisement after ME3. This was my forum for many years and slowly I drifted but I never found the same. I still have my Thane figurine. I haven't been back much in the last three years. I saw what Bioware was going to do on Twitter and decided to return because this place impacted my life. It brought so much good and wonderful things but it also brought pain and hurt to my life. Yet, I don't regret being here. I don't regret this community and I hope one of the devs see these posts and know what this place has done. Not that I think it will change anything but rather just for them to know that this community impacted lives and it was about videogames but it come more. That should be recognized. Not be just about devs contacting and disseminating info to the players.

I think the least they could do is make it SOUND like a good reason and not the tissue paper-thin excuse that it is.

It feels really weird that Bioware is telling us how much they value our feedback while simultaneously pushing us away.

It partly feels like a business move, like this is some how going to empower Bioware to have better control on the feedback and narrative of their games launching. I'm not sure if that adds up, but it seems like in the wake of the DA2/ME3 catastrophes, BSN was ground-zero for negativity, and I get the impression that they don't ever want to risk being a toxic cesspool like that again.

I also get the impression that many Bioware devs are genuinely disgusted with these forums. Its weird, because we're basically being told, take your suggestions and posts to Reddit/Twitter. Why are our ideas or posts any inherently more readable for the devs on another site? Has this forum community really become so repulsive to devs that my opinions here are unreadable,  but the very same opinions posted on reddit are more palatable?

Lastly, maybe this is an effort to purge or rebuild the Bioware fan base. That probably sounds drastic. But wiping out a community so that a new one can replace it is a pretty good way to get rid of all the old and crochety users (like me) who only stick around to be critical of Bioware.

This is exactly what I think it is.

Well, these really are sad news for me. I've been in here for little more than a year, and have only written a few posts, but hell, I love coming in here and reading the latest tweets from the devs and what the people think about them.
I love finding a topic with over a hundred pages filled with lore discussions, jokes or game mechanics explanations.
In this short time I have been part of BSN I managed to have great times, and learn lots of new things from these games I love so much.
It's really sad that now I have to say goodbye to all this, which is almost the only way I have to talk and read about ME and DA.
I'm gonna miss all this, and I'm very pissed with this decision.

Now that I have ranted enough, I really hope I find some of the users I liked the most in other boards or sites.

Nothing quite gets the blood pumping like being made to feel that you're not worth any time or effort to be heard.

But hey, at least there's TWITTER! The same Twitter that is famous for it's nuanced and multi-faceted discussion that isn't limited by an arbitrary character count and admins that aren't totalitarian.

Stress?  Really?

There's a variety of angles that it can come from.

Post release, as someone that works in QA, seeing the issues that I cannot help resolve weighs on me because part of me feels I've let people down.  (not the fan's fault, but is something that weighs on the mind for sure).

As someone that tried to be active in community building, it also meant not ignoring obvious transgressions.  I remember when the Cullen thread received dozens of pages of porn image links spammed into it, and I felt I couldn't ignore it and went through cleaning up the thread and banning those responsible and investigating alt accounts and the like.  I could have ignored it, but that probably would have been more mentally worse for me.  I think I went to bed around 4 AM that day.  I could have just closed/deleted the thread, but that was what the trolls wanted so I didn't want to just take the easy road out.

And maybe I need tougher skin?  I'm probably not the best judge of that.  I don't think I had soft skin, just more that my armor wasn't impregnable and for better or worse me posting somewhere was a lightning rod for people to derail threads to get my attention and vent their frustrations at me.  So in that sense given enough time it just became, if not "stressful" then certainly much less fun.
