My main problem with Twitter is that dismantling misconceptions or challenging assumptions doesn't fit in 140 characters.
I need a longer format.
I once wrote a BSN post that was 8,000 words.
Aye, and don't even get me started on what I've posted. Christ, I've written multiple essays.
This is a terrible idea. Getting closer to your community shouldn't mean closing your community's hub. The social media accounts listed are not places where players can have indepth discussions, and it's very easy for misinformation to spread on them quickly.
Bioware have done a Konami.
They claim they love the fans and then they do stuff like this.

Various concerns
- try having a lore discussion in Twitter's character limit
- sites like Facebook (although you can make a profile with a fake name and stuff I guess) involve a profile which for most people has their real name, location, often job details, etc (concerns about security and privacy)
- I love Tumblr and a lot of the ME/DA community on Tumblr but let's face it a significant proportion of the ME/DA community on Tumblr is downright ugly and toxic
- people who speak other languages ex. French, German wanting a place where they can discuss the games amongst themselves in their own tongue
- not everybody has or wants social media
- losing most of the great discussions/lorecrafting/and so forth that's occurred here. I mean some of us will archive bits of it I'm sure but ???
Not to mention how silly the whole reasoning in the first place is
Like BioWare we don't care the devs don't post on the forums, we're here to discuss the games WITH EACH OTHER and enjoy the community we have here.
Besides how much can maintaining a forum really cost anyway, it's mostly running and server space right (feel free to correct me on this tho)? Especially if you hand moderating responsibilities to fans. It works on Reddit.
It was fairly obvious after the closure of Off Topic that this was coming. It is sad, but we predicted it would happen within a year or two, as it was clearly the intended outcome.
It is also a monumentally dumb waste of time and effort to have built a valuable resource, only to mismanage and squander it so badly over the last few years as to necessitate closing it entirely.
I also think we can expect an already problematic QA system for their games to become genuinely untenable. I honestly have doubts about investing my money in games using only passive QA over unrelated social media.
Other than buying the occasional used game, I expect this is essentially the end of my relationship with BioWare.

I was waiting for this since the closure of the Off Topic section.
I can't quite put the finger on the moment where BioWare decided that discussion and feedback above 140 characters was unwanted. Was it the shitstorm with ME3? Earlier? Later? Can't say for sure.
Not the most surprising development.
(Reposting this from the ME:A forums)
Well this is a bummer. You can't have the same depth of discussion on sites like twitter or tumblr or even reddit. Their formats completely inhibit it. I'm fully aware BW is not forcing me to use a site I don't like. And let's be real, these are really the only other active sites to discuss the games. There's definitely not "a lot" of communities out there.
Honestly, this decision makes me more suspicious about ME:A than anything else revealed thus far.
This really looks like they pulled a Konami. Not on the same level, but closing your own forums is just a dumb idea. Every developer has it's own forums and now you say that you really want to hear us... on Twitter? Tumblr? Facebook? Riiiiight...
It's funny that when I originally signed up to BSN (I had another name once), they tried overtly connecting community (Bioware Social Network), and at the time, went the extra step with modding too and providing the means for fans to share content.. let alone thoughts. It was during NWN. That was when they wanted to actually connect. Not this.
They're just insular now.

I never advocated for a wall-o-text before, but I think I can do it now ![]()
Well it's been fun, mostly.

Didn't see much of them after the forum switch but totally absent after the ME3 ending uproar.
They probably found that it's easier to control the conversation in places like Twitter, Facebook and even Reddit so they stopped coming here altogether.
Not really
Yes really.
Oh, man. Where are we going to complain about every single little thing now?
And I loved spending my night's shitposting and talking to people about futa, Gayliens and tentacle hentai. Oh, the sweet debauchery, how I shall miss it! ![]()
Did not know there was an official thread for this.
Ok: Please don't shut down the forums. I like it here. To the fans, these forums are about way more than giving feedback to the devs. They let us talk to each other. They are part of the fandom. I understand if the devs don't want to interact with them, but that's not really the primary function of them anymore. Hasn't been for a while. They're a fandom community. Please do not shut them down.
