It's ironic that they talk about the community being toxic when they made this guy a community manager. Priestly is far and away the most toxic and combative person I've seen on BW's forums.
I think what the company is missing out is that to us this isn't a forum. It's a home. It's OUR home. And we are a bickering insane and lovable family that can/can't tolerate each other on the best or worst of days. Yes we can chat anywhere about their games but this place is where we found each other and though we are all different this place accepted everyone. I've joined a forum mostly for my Solas group pals but what of the others? I can't chat with them because they are all about ME or don't like Solas. That leaves me having to join 5/6 boards just to keep up. That's why we are sad and angry and hurt.
Yeah, that's what worries me the most. The decision to dismantle the forums won't help bring the community together - it will only fragment it. I'm all for forum resets. Sometimes you just need that clean slate, but having no alternative? It'd be like hacking off the head of a chicken and watching it flail around its surroundings while you try to guess where she'd go.
That would make their point for them.
That's a terrible idea.
Hahaha oh COME ON!!! You honestly think there's anything that's going to change their mind at this point??
It's times like these where it's best to go out with a bang
Anyways, back to conal lepew folks... so lets see here.. he works for bioware.....
canadian jokes anyone?
Today was the first day I posted in roughly 17 months or so, so don't read too much into my being here on the forum. I came back because I had heard the news and after reading through this thread decided to log back in again.
Remember reading stuff from you and thinking that it's cool how you engage people and try to explain stuff. Thanks again!

I see this and do not believe it. The discussion I mentioned surrounding Meredith was started in 2013 by Iledra, passionate yes, whining, definitely not, and, I read all of it, probably most of it again, as it came up on the front page a day or so ago.
I suppose it depends on where on the forums you are looking and which posts you are clicking, but, I, personally, have not found that to be genuinely the case. Most discussions are heartfelt, lore-rich and delicious. And, there is nothing wrong with those "circles" now and then...it is fun, more than it is not.
I didn't say that whining is the only thing that you can find here, just that there is a lot of it. And by that I don't mean people complaining about something. I agreed with many complains about recent games (ME3 and DAI). There is a difference between complaining and whining.
My negative opinion probably comes from the fact that I compare how the forum is now to how it was years ago (2010). I guess you can say that it's the problem of the atmosphere on the forums. It was more relaxed and "happier" then. Nowdays people tend to argue more and not in the "nice" and constructive way either. Basically, then it was about the plot of the game now it's about social correctness. Then we were just a buch of people that liked Bioware games, now we are just male or female, straight, bi or gay ect.. Each one with a label, everyone arguing who is better. I don't like that, why can't we just be people and respect each other like all people should.
Unfortunately I can say anything about the discussion about Meredith you mentioned, I didn't read it.
This. I remember priestly being one of the biggest douchebags on the old bsn
Haha dude, that's what I've been sayin! Never trust a man who's dignity can traded for a bag of CHEESE-ITS
I remember that! I bought it because of you guys. Thank you!
You're very welcome. Wish I could get you to buy more stuff in the future. Wait, I don't even work for Bioware why am I saying that? hahaha
I feel especially bad for the character related threads like the one dedicated to Solas. Here's an enigmatic character with loads of lore yet to be uncovered, is absolutely relevant to future DA games, and has a massive following. Thousands of pages of artwork, theory crafting and lore discussion that's about to go poof. They're scrambling to somehow archive everything and herd everyone to another board. It, and lots of other threads like it, are going to be a huge loss to the DA fanbase.

Haha I know! I never buy games based on trailers I buy them based on a person's playthrough and shared opinions of fellow gamers.

Let's not. Running these forums is part of his job. I don't go into work every day to be insulted by customers and neither should anyone else.
Yeah and you can't joke about the cold. We've been suffering in a heatwave for 3 weeks lol

I would've chatted during the stream but I felt that letting the game take care of it and me staying silent was best for the engagement of the viewer. Glad to know it paid off.
I'm not sure if I should be thankful or not that I haven't been here that long... I missed a lot of history and now I'm losing the future... I was really looking forward to camping here for the long haul...

Certainly wasn't thinking about dealing with all these strange feels today, or ever...

I'm more visual myself. What I see is my main focus but that day I had no audio so I had no idea LOL but how it's played is easy for me to follow.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
This Canadian is curious what you might have to say
Ahh crap... look I don't actually know any Canadian jokes... All I know is that they're incredibly polite and force children into internment-style hockey camps starting at the age of 3...

Oh. Well I'm glad even muted it helped you out. hahaha
An unsettling idea. What if EA keeps cutting BW's budget and the reason the forums are going away is that BW is trying to cut every corner possible just to keep their heads above water? Look at MEA's development. It's been years. Let me give you some perspective. It was 1,569 days between the release of Mass Effect and the release of Mass Effect 3. It's been 1,607 days since the release of Mass Effect 3 and today. ME1 to ME3 took LESS time than ME3 to today. And yet all we have is some vague stuff and a still far away, sketchy release date. Makes sense if its development is being hampered by financial issues. Financial issues would also explain why so many people have left Bioware in the past few years.
The thing we're losing, I think, is the ability to have these long detailed discussions out in the open where the general audience can see them. When I had long back-and-forth exchanges with other posters, I wasn't just talking to them. I was talking to the entire forum. The discussion was a performance in an attempt to frame the debate around one feature or another. If there was a discussion about some new feature that I thought was missing the point, I could stake out an extreme position on that topic in an effort to draw responses. And once I got one, we'd go on and on, moving the discussion along that new continuum.Twitter is certainly not ideal for lengthy feedback unless you are able to send direct messages, but people do still report issues they have with games as well as general critiques. I can still facilitate discussion with those people.

We feel like real Dalish elves LOL but yeah Solas is doing everything possible to archive that stuff. I think our fan thread is the biggest fan thread there. Over 6000 posts.

It's actually age 5 where I live but who's counting? ![]()

It'll do... It'll do.

To be honest, I've always preferred the no commentary approach myself. Just let the game do its thing and I'll decide for myself.

This. We're not all going to end up in the same place when BSN ends. Even people who largely post in one thread like the Solas thread or Cullen thread aren't all going to end up regrouping in the same place. If you were the type who liked to flit around in all the threads--MP, books. comics, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, legacy games--where can you regroup? I hate to see the community die.
