Yeah, that's what worries me the most. The decision to dismantle the forums won't help bring the community together - it will only fragment it. I'm all for forum resets. Sometimes you just need that clean slate, but having no alternative? It'd be like hacking off the head of a chicken and watching it flail around its surroundings while you try to guess where she'd go.

This. We're not all going to end up in the same place when BSN ends. Even people who largely post in one thread like the Solas thread or Cullen thread aren't all going to end up regrouping in the same place. If you were the type who liked to flit around in all the threads--MP, books. comics, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, legacy games--where can you regroup? I hate to see the community die.

I feel especially bad for the character related threads like the one dedicated to Solas. Here's an enigmatic character with loads of lore yet to be uncovered, is absolutely relevant to future DA games, and has a massive following. Thousands of pages of artwork, theory crafting and lore discussion that's about to go poof. They're scrambling to somehow archive everything and herd everyone to another board. It, and lots of other threads like it, are going to be a huge loss to the DA fanbase.

I only ever posted in the Solas thread once, but I do frequent the Cassandra thread (when it's alive anyway), and I had a good time in there with fellow fans. Not being able to continue doing this will make me kind of sad, actually.

Same goes for the other character threads I like to occasionally drop in, like the Miranda thread on teh ME3 character board (when that one is also alive).

We feel like real Dalish elves LOL but yeah Solas is doing everything possible to archive that stuff. I think our fan thread is the biggest fan thread there. Over 6000 posts.

Well, I lurk more than I post but I plan on following wherever that thread goes. I check it at least a couple times a week, I'd honestly feel a little empty inside without my regular peek under the blanket-fort.

This is one of the worst missteps BioWare has made.

To add to an earlier post, another drawback of ending the detailed debates between members by closing the forums, the devs won't be able to actually see how the fans perceived their storylines. On Twitter, Tumblr, and the like, the devs will only see "What I Love/Hate About..." posts. They aren't going to see threads that analyze each character, or break subplots down into separate aspects for detailed examination, or ruminate over the implications of various choices in the games and what other plots they affect.

Just seeing "I like this" or "I hate this" doesn't tell you how the fans process the intricacies of the masterpiece.

In short, there's no in-depth feedback on anything. It's just an opening post with a few "likes" and "re-posts" underneath. There's no debate, or disagreement, or new ideas generated from points you didn't think of at first. There's no expanded thought.

We need to decide quickly about where we'd all go once BSN shuts down and people leave every-which-way. Someone mentioned the notion of making our own forums. I think that the best course of action would be to unabashedly and firmly go for that option - to make a forum that's going to encompass all things BioWare with a name that'll be very Google search friendly, including an off-topic subsection - and afterwards, to advertise that forum around the BSN in its twilight days so that people are aware that there exists the ONE alternative that's going to practically be a verbatim copy of these forums, sans the devs themselves.

I expected it.

Still doesn't feel good.

I wont have info.

I wont know when the game releases.

I wont know the premise.

I wont know which characters I'm looking forward to seeing.

What levels I'm looking forward to.

I wont be able discuss any of those thing with anyone.

To say this has killed off what excitement I had is an understatement.

I feel void.

I honestly think its probably time to call it on this thing anyway. But I'll see it through one last time before I make that call.

I'm not looking forward to the price tag/DLC compared with the quality and price of indie games these days anyway.

Sad day, had to come. But it should have felt like a celebration.

This is a funeral for the Mass Effect 3 endings and their legacy.

Pretty sure they're popping champagne in the offices. They shouldn't, this is a direct result of botched products and a conga line of unsatisfied customers; that just never got their money's worth with the last installment.

It'll do... It'll do.

To be honest, I've always preferred the no commentary approach myself. Just let the game do its thing and I'll decide for myself.

Same. Commentary over narrative based games really annoys me so I didn't want to do that to fellow BSNers. And I got positive reviews for that stream so hey!

If Bioware needs a safe place away from all insults and criticism, if they need to remove themselves from the burning inferno of diversity conflicts, differences in opinions and all out trolling of a very vocal and sometimes totally inappropriate minority, if they see no construtive feedback from this fanbase that can fuel their inspiration and motivation to surpass expectations with better games then... (With a deep reaper voice) SO BE IT!!!

I actually found a lot of commentary playthroughs get attacked on YouTube by people who don't want to hear the player, so finding silent playthroughs is rare and many prefer that.

Seriously though, this sucks. Part of the problem of this forum was the lack of developer interaction compared to yesteryears but I felt the solution was to improve this place, not scuttle it.

Now I'm gonna lose even more people than I did when Off Topic was closed. This is gonna suck way worse than that did, and that was major suck.

Almost all of the sites being offered as alternatives, while good for soundbite style comments, are terrible for detailed discussion. This is a community, full of people who are interested in actually talking about Bioware games in depth. There is no alternative for that, for the sense of community or camaraderie.

That's what this decision is causing us to lose. I only wish Bioware seemed to care.

Well most new folks that joined today are from BSN so you will see familiar faces. They had around 20 before and now almost 60 members since today.

THREAD LOCK

Does it really matter? The forums are coming to an end. I doubt the CMs would see the benefits of locking threads right now. In fact, they might recognize the boon of such an idea for the community.

Say, post a thread about it in the main Dragon Age and Mass Effect sections and keep discussing it as you would any thread.
